PSA: The "Fab Wallpapers" app which is ranked #24 on the app charts with 100,000+ downloads is displaying Facebook phishing popups

Just a heads up the "Fab Wallpapers" app which is currently ranked #24 on the app charts is serving Facebook phishing popups and other malware.

The app has permissions to "retrieve running apps" and when you install it and then start using Facebook you will get a popup that looks to be from Facebook asking you to re-login.

This is a phishing advert that then steals your Facebook login information. (Doesn't happen straight away but if you read 1* reviews on the app they all mention similar things - https://i.imgur.com/ROZtwTQ.jpg)

I know because this happened to my mum earlier so I'm making you all aware.

Once the Facebook account is compromised it shares spam affiliate posts and tags all your friends. Funny thing is, if you check the apps author it's "MLM Hub", funny "coincidence" when the spam posts promote multi level marketing programs.

Should Android tablets, despite being declared dead by big YouTubers, get reviews none the less?

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 06:46 AM PDT

Android tablets have been declared dead by many top YouTubers and while this might be true, I still think it's only fair to review new tablets from the few companies that still try to give it a go, like Samsung. I can't remember the last time I saw an Android tablet review by the Top tech YouTubers, besides PocketNow and maybe the verge(not sure). Samsung's Galaxy tabs look enticing, especially with Dex Support.

LG will drop the G series branding

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 09:16 PM PDT

First reported by Korean media outlet Herald Economics (헤럴드경제) 21 hours ago, multiple Korean news outlets have reported that LG will drop their G series branding for another name.

    Original Source: http://news.naver.com/main/read.nhn?mode=LSD&mid=sec&sid1=001&oid=016&aid=0001654385 (Korean article)

[Exclusive] LG phones will drop the G! Brand surgery, "recreate the glory of the chocolate phone"

LG smartphones are going into big brand surgery. It will drop LG smartphone's premium branding "G".

LG Electronics has decided to drop their Mass Premium smartphone "G" series (G9 ThinQ), planned for release in the first half of the year. They will put out a new brand of devices.

The "G" series is LG's planned smartphone, their first release in the Korean market this year. They were released first in 2012. This "brand surgery" is based on the strong opinions of Lee Yeon-Mo, head of LG Electronics MC Division who was appointed last year.

Lee's plan is to barge through LG's smartphone sales problems by brand and design changes. Their plan is to revive the glory of the "chocolate phone", one of LG's previous bestsellers.

(Note: The "chocolate phone" refers to LG's CYON Black Label series phones, which 15 million of them were made and sold.)

A telecommunication industry source said that "In a new device showcase for Korean wireless telecommunication companies, LG Elec has said that they will drop the "G" branding and will put out a new brand. LG will likely use a pet name for the new brand to focus on the strong parts of the new phone, the design."

The new product is known to have Qualcomm's 7 series chip, which have the AP and the modem combined. One of the advantages is that it's low volume and lightweight. They're planning to have reasonable prices with premium performance.

This is the first phone with a new chip and a more elegant design, so it's thought that they changed the brand too.

Telecommunication industry sources have praised LG's new smartphone. A high profile source who attended LG's new device showcase said that "it reminded me of the first time I saw the chocolate phone, 15 years ago" and showed high expectations for the phone before release.

Another source said that 'It looks like LG Electronics put in a lot of effort into the mass premium smartphone. This is different from other companies' 5G product design" and that "they made a very sophisticated and elegant phone".

This new phone will support dual screen additions like last year's V50S. The display size is expected to be 6.7~6.9 inches. This is a "big screen" device, with the display getting bigger then previous "G" series phones which were around 6.4 inches. There will be a total of four cameras including a 48 MP main camera. The battery will be 4000mAh, and the price is expected to be cheaper then high end phones, under the 1 million won (=around 830 USD)

LG Electronics will also increase their product lineup, from premium to affordable, and they'll target the global market in consideration of regional factors. LG has previously not released this year's flagship V60 ThinQ and only released the product in foreign markets including North America. Their plan is to release premium phones in foreign regions where 5G is getting started, and release mass premium phones in the Korean markets where the 5G market is active and stabilized, to increase the reputation of LG smartphones.

I made a free app that lets you trace your steps without GPS or an Internet connection

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 05:29 PM PDT

The app uses your Android phones magnetometer and step counter to draw an accurate map of your movement.

The app converts data from the magnetometer to polar coordinates so the app understands where the user is facing and uses your phones step counter to tell the app when to draw and for how long. The UI is extremely basic, consisting of a black background your line, total steps, compass info, and two buttons. One to restart the line and the other for instructions. Power usage is extremely minimal.

Heed app to help people during coronavirus lockdown

    Posted: 28 Mar 2020 05:54 PM PDT

I spoke to LG support today about Scandinavia and the availability of the V60 ThinQ. Was told it's not coming.

    Posted: 27 Mar 2020 04:40 PM PDT

Basically title. I have the conversation in Norwegian in my mail inbox (as you can opt to have it sent to you).

Sales representative said that it wasn't going to be sold in the north (Northern Europe) as LG mobile phone sales in general had been low in this region.

Now, this is a representative and by no means anybody that has made some executive decision, and it might not be final, but this is what I was told in case some of you guys that also lives in the north were hoping for a V60 release. Don't hold your breath, sadly.
