[DEV] Android Premium Games - a site that lists only premium games without IAPs

    Posted: 16 Mar 2020 06:45 AM PDT

    https://androidpremium.games

    How does it work

It is an index that is automatically generated once a day (Usually - in the few months I've been working on it, Google threw a wrench into the system once. Not maliciously. But it still took a day or two to fix.) based on the Play Store's top premium games list for various genres. But everything that contains IAPs is filtered out.

    Back story

I suspect that I don't have to tell people around here how frustrating it has become to even find games that don't make you pay through the nose and/or gain gameplay advantage through IAPs. Well, I was so frustrated that I sat down and wrote a little app for myself.

While I did consider making it publicly available pretty early on, what really motivated me to polish and release it was seeing the comparatively low number of downloads on some great games that I enjoyed. Those developers deserve better in my opinion and I'm not buying that "People just aren't willing to pay for it." Not as the be-all and end-all anyway. I'm sure that it's a factor. But people said similar things about GOG ("People are just going to exploit it.", "Everybody will pirate the games.", "They will be out of business quickly.") and yet...

    I think visibility is huge.

So hopefully, this will enable gamers and developers who don't like those F2P, P2W, etc. business models to find one another once again. I know I've already discovered a bunch of awesome games with it. 🙂

    Sidenote about the name

I named the project before realizing that there's a "premium" section on the play store now. My understanding of what "premium" means is obviously different from Google's. Games that you buy and that then offer IAPs of up to something like 100€ per item - nothing premium about that. In my opinion.

    Alternatives

Of course my approach has the problem that it can't take games into account that use IAPs in a legitimate manner. So I will list alternatives that are posted in the comments here: - No-Bullshit Games

Can I lower my phones resolution for better performance?

    Posted: 15 Mar 2020 08:15 PM PDT

I have a rooted Samsung S4 and I'd like to lower the resolution from 1080 to 720 for battery and performance improvements. I downloaded an app called "Easy DPI Changer" but if I change any of the numbers from default is just seems to screw up the aspect ratio. Is there any way I can just lower the screen quality while keeping everything looking normal? For example with my Nintendo switch, I can change the quality from 1080, 720 to 480 but everything looks fine, the console just doesn't have to work as hard.

    Good Deep MMO on mobile

    Posted: 15 Mar 2020 02:55 PM PDT

I played Everquest back in the day. Then moved to WoW when it came out for about 13 years or more. Also played GW 1 and still play GW 2.

I am a big MMO RPG player. I love playing RPGs with other players. I love farming for things to get awesome gear or items yo collect to craft awesome stuff. I love doing open world quest or grind. Also love instanced dungeon runs and events and such.

I have yet to find a mobile MMO that meets these needs or even comes close to meeting these needs to scratch the itch.

Graphics are not important to me. Gameplay is though. And content.

I see many MMOs but so many are just the same quests with a different name. Nothing to deep. Nothing to work towards. And very few actually have a good system for grouping up with other people to play that I can see from what I have played.

The closest I've found to scratch this itch so far is OSRS. I see Runescape is also in beta. That is 13 a month to play those games if I want more than the free version. Now I'm ok with paying a sub, but OSRS is still a bit different and I dont want to pay unless I have to and there is nothing else.

I am currently playing Arcane Legends but after 30 - 45 minutes the game gets boring because I'm just doing the same thing over and over and have to take a break for a day or two before I go back to it.

With all that said: are there any good MMOs on android that could fit what I'm looking for? Or fit most of it? Or am I just out of luck because mobile gaming just hadn't come that far yet?

Any suggestions would he great. Thanks!

EDIT I appreciate all the help. If there is one that hasn't been talked about yet please let me know. However after seeing what what everyone has to say up to this point it just confirms my fears. There really isnt a good MMO on mobile yet with a small exception to tunescape. So I went ahead and bought a subscription to Runescape and will start to play OSRS until something better is suggested or comes out on mobile.
