    OS updates on international devices?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 02:53 AM PST

I'm seriously considering purchasing a Galaxy A71, and if it is not released in South Korea (where I live) then I may purchase an international unlocked device and import it. My question is, will this device receive OS / security updates? Thanks.

Pixel 4 and 4 XL still not worth getting?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:48 AM PST

Looking to upgrade from my original Pixel XL which has lasted me quite a few good years. I'm on Google Fi and i'm interested in switching to the latest pixel models because I've enjoyed the original Pixel XL quite a bit, but I'm just seeing a ton of very negative reviews for the Pixel 4. Has Google made any fixes to the battery life and bugs? Is it better to go for the Pixel 3a instead?

    Background image changes automatically

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 12:29 PM PST

I noticed some really weird thing going on on my Honor View 10, EMUI 9.1.0, Android 9.

For a few days my background has been changing automatically about once a day. It appears to be images from NASA??? I do not have saved any of those in my gallery.

    Examples

I have already run Kaspersky anti virus several times without any result.

    Moisture in charging port

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:40 AM PST

Last week I spilled some water on the carpet and some of it spilled on my charger without me even realizing. I was getting the moisture in charging port issue then, but managed to solve it and haven't had any problems with it for around four days or so. But last night my phone didn't charge and today I'm getting the error again, though it's charging fine now. Do I need to be worried about this?

    SD Card issues

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 11:07 AM PST

Hello all! I have an LG V30 Thin Q. Overall everything seems to work fine with my phone other than the normal wear and tear of the phone being like 3 years old. I have a "SanDisk - Ultra Plus 256GB microSDXC" that I bought from Best Buy. About 200GB are used. I have a lot of videos and pictures on my phone. I've noticed over the past couple of days, that any pictures I download/screenshot and any video I screen record are becoming not readable once I move them from my internal storage to my SD card. Is this an early sign of corruption of my SD card? Luckily all my pics and vids are backed up to google so I won't lose anything, but should I invest in a new SD card?

Sorry if this is a stupid question. Wanted to see if I could do something to fix the issue without buying a new SD card.

Appreciate anyone who takes the time to help!!

Persistently change bluetooth settings (codec, bitrate, etc.)

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 07:03 AM PST

Phone: Samsung Galaxy S8 (Verizon) (android 9)

Id like to be able to persistently change some of the settings for my phone's bluetooth connection. Namely, I want to set

    • Codec to LDAC (Defaults to SBC)

    • Sample rate to 96 kHz (defaults to 'system selection')

    • Bits per sample to 32 bits/sample (defaults to 'system selection')

    • LDAC Playback quality / bitrate to 990 kbps (defaults to 'best effort / adaptive bitrate')

I can change these things via the 'developer options' menu in my phone's settings, but they dont 'stick'...As soon as I leave the dev menu they revert back to what is shown above.

Weirdly, the 'bluetooth AVRCP' setting reverts to version 1.6, even though the "default" is listed as version 1.4, making me think this isnt just a "reverting to system defaults" issue but a "the current settings are locked in and I cant / dont have permissions needed to change them" issue. This also happens with the bluetooth codec (there is a 'system default codec' option that is not being auto selected).

Any ideas on how to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

PS one Idea I had was to access the phone via USB/ADB and (assuming I can do this on an unrooted phone) run something like chmod 777 [...] on the files that store the bluetooth settings (maybe something like /etc/bluetooth/[...]?). Anyone know if this will work?

Dropped my phone, now it doesn't boot

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 10:30 AM PST

Dropped my HTC U Ultra from a waist level, not a scratch, charging still works, but it is unable to boot. I am stuck at "HTC Powered by android"

I can enter the recovery mode though. I tried wiping the cache partition, also did a factory reset, no change.

    Any ideas?

I asked Google Assistant "What is this song" a few days ago. I went through my history and it won't tell me.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 12:54 PM PST

When info through assistant history it shows the date I asked, but it won't tell me what the name was. When I got details it just gives me useless information like where I was when I asked. Is there a way to recover this info?

How to completely shut down and restart Bluetooth service?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 12:40 PM PST

My bluetooth occasionally gets stuck in some weird state. It slows down the phone until I do a reboot, and sometimes I need to reboot a second time, getting a popup about Bluetooth having filed after the first reboot.

Deep in settings I found "Reset Wi-Fi, Mobile data, Bluetooth." And it demands my password before continuing. This scares me with that it might reset besides Bluetooth.

Essential running Android 10, 5-Feb-2020 security patch level.

Google Camera Port - AI Portrait Mode

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 08:42 AM PST

I'm curious about anyone who's using GCam ports on another device like a Galaxy or OnePlus etc.

On the Pixel, when you take a portrait mode photo, there are no requirements for how close you are and there's no waiting to take the picture because it adds the blur in artificially after the fact- I know the Samsung stock camera portrait mode is pretty finicky with it and I don't like that.

So in short- does GCam port allow instantaneous portrait mode photos?

Block all voice and SMS by default

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 06:28 AM PST

    Hey everyone!

What can I use to block all inbound voice calls and SMS by default? And unblock on a per number basis?

I'm asking this because I have a dual SIM phone, but I rarely use one of the SIM. I occasionally get spam voice calls and I've been blocking the individual numbers, but was looking for a more "drastic" solution 😊

    Thanks!

[Android 10] When "Overview" button is pressed, dock icons change to recent apps - how do I change this?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 12:01 PM PST

I just noticed this after updating my andoid to 10.0.

Now when I press the overview button, my 4 icons on the bottom dock change to 5 recently opened apps. This is so annoying and not how this used to function. Please tell me there is a setting to change it back to how it used to work where the 4 dock icons would always be there?

Here are screenshots showing what I mean.

'Fetch and activate succeeded' message help.

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 05:34 AM PST

Yesterday I noticed this message pop up on my phone, it's the kind that briefly shows on the homescreen without any way to interact with it. I've seen it 5 or 6 times in total now.

I have no idea what it means, Googling it was no help but I saw a few mentions of 'remote access' which has me concerned.
Can anyone tell me what this is. Do I have a problem here?

    Thanks

Edit: Factory resetting didn't help, still getting it.

orange screen, even after turning off "night mode" on Oppo Reno Z

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 11:24 AM PST

Don't know exactly when it happened, but my phone seems to be stuck at "night mode". Surprisingly, the screen colors turns back to normal while on lock screen. I've look for any installed app if it's the source of the problem and also I've checked up the settings and "night shift" is deactivated. My phone is an Oppo Reno Z whith ColorOs 6 (Android 9), fully updated and not rooted. Please help!

PD: Don't know why screenshots looks normal... I think the phone hates me

    Thank you

Edit: I've just solved myself. You need to instal an app called SystemUI Tuner and configure with ADB. After that, siable night mode in the options

    Timeout Time when locked?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 03:39 AM PST

I brought my phone in to get a cracked screen replacement, and now it's acting differently.

It used to be that when I hit the power button to look at my lock screen, the screen would go to black after a few seconds. Now it seems to follow the timeout time when the phone is open.

Same thing when I plug it in to charge, it turns the screen on and I have to manually black out the screen. And when the phone reaches 100% and the notification pops up, same thing.

Is there a setting somewhere I can't find for timeout on the lock screen versus the phone itself?

    Pdf Samsung tablet App

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 04:46 AM PST

    Hello,

I want to do notes for my lectures and especialy write my summary of an Lecture with picturesI am searching for an app, where i can do 3 things:

    • write with the samsung pen (with erasing with the button on the pen)
    • import screenshots or parts from pdfs
    • i need to write on the imports.

I tried a dozen of free apps. the best i found were:

The samsung notes app can almost everything, but i cant write on the imports and is a bad workflow to import the screenshots.Currently i am using onenotes but i can only import one pdf or one image (probably a bug with the samsung pen...)on Most other apps i couldn't even delete something with the pen. ( i really like that feature)I used fiiNote where i can't really work with the pen.I tried evernote where i couldn't print pdfs and write on them just attach them to the note.

The best i found was squid but the app crashes when i try to import an other picture.

Android System WebView - this app is associated with a different account, not_main@account.com

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 04:37 AM PST

I currently have 3 accounts on my Google Pixel 4 XL and no matter what I've tried, Android System WebView stays away from my main gmail.com account in the Play Store. I've tried clearing data from Play Store, removing the other two accounts, detaching app from the Play Store and a combo of those thrown in with reboots in between. Despite all of this after a while it goes back to being associated with a different account. the only way to keep it is to remove the other two accounts... any suggestions?

How to get rid of Bluetooth pairing request on LG G6?

    Posted: 09 Feb 2020 10:31 PM PST

So the other day, I got a notification of a Bluetooth pairing request 'Touch to pair with null'

I haven't touched the notification, I would rather not touch it, because I don't want to pair with this mystery device.

The problem is, it won't let me ignore or remove the notification. It'll let me ignore it for up to 8 hours, but it won't let me get rid of it. I've tried looking up this issue with no luck.

I haven't paired with this device, so I can't go on and forget it under my Bluetooth settings. I'd rather not pair with it, but I can't find an option to ignore the request.

The only settings under Bluetooth is the option to change my phones name and to turn the Bluetooth on and off. Then of course there's the devices I've already paired with and the available devices. The device trying to pair with me does not show up there.

Any help would be appreciated, I hate notifications and this one is unnerving.

Does a factory reset deletes TWRP backups from my device?

    Posted: 10 Feb 2020 04:07 AM PST

    Hi,

In order to install a new OS update unfortunately I have to factory reset my phone otherwise it will end up in a bootloop or an encryption failure. I was wondering if I should factory reset trhough the OS or through TWRP? If I do it through TWRP will it also delete TWRP with my backups?

I was thinking to factory reset via the system (Lineage OS 15) because after the reset I will lose all data so I will need to copy the new OS zip and open gapps and all the things I need to flash back in (I don't know if it is possible to copy files from recovery mode without an OS because I will ned to do a clean install and wipe old OS). Then I will need to wipe system data and all from TWRP and clean install Lineage 16.
