Android Questions: Is there an option to see which of my installed apps are removed from play store

Is there an option to see which of my installed apps are removed from play store

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 06:20 AM PST

I was using ES file explorer for a while now. Today I saw a Reddit post stating that all the apps from the app developer of ES file explorer is removed from the play store due to security Reasons. I wouldn't even know about this without the Reddit post. I want to know if any of my other apps are removed from the store, So I can uninstall it. Is there a way to check this ?

Moto E4 Plus stuck in continuous boot loop

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 10:02 AM PST

    Phone: Moto E4 Plus

So I had my phone repaired (charging port needed to be replaced) and it charges, but the thing now is that when I power it on, it continues to reboot itself on the first screen (see video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_zv5GNKcefg)). *not my video*

I have tried to enter safe mode, but then it says, 'no command' and then it will continue to reboot itself. I am thinking about trying this (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=frrCUkwzKzE).

I think I'm going to head back to the repair shop, but I want to transfer all my data from the phone to the computer.

    What is this icon?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 11:29 AM PST

Just noticed that when I go to the settings page of the Play Store on my Amazon HD 10 2017 tablet - which I sideloaded the Google stuff onto - this little black and white ball appears on the bottom left of the screen in the navigation bar. Tapping, long pressing etc do nothing.

Edit: Ok, I can't attach images. Imagine a small black and white ball.

Gif As A Wallpaper (Pixel 4)

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 09:18 PM PST

I'd like to set a gif as a wallpaper on my Pixel 4 without the use of third party apps. Meaning not needing to go to the App Store and download an app to set a gif as a wallpaper. So is there anyway to set one up with just the android settings or do I still need to continue using other apps to do this?

Issues with Nicelock and screen recording on Android 10

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 09:15 AM PST

I've been using the nice shot tool from the nicelock app for almost a year with no issues on previous os. Yesterday with an Android 10 update the app stopped working properly. It's a 3rd party app so it gets kinda tricky when it comes to updates and all that.

I was wondering if anyone uses Nicelock on Android 10 and if you have had any issues. Also, if there is any other screen and internal audio recording app that you may know of please share.

Screen on Note 9 randomly goes black while display refreshes

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:30 PM PST

Started roughly a week ago, but randomly my screen will turn black for about 2 seconds, then everything seems to 'refresh', where it will minimize whatever app I'm using and go to my home screen. Recently updated and thought that would fix it but it's still happening. Haven't had the phone that long, but is it on its way out? Was bought new.

How to properly configure SD card to be used for video storage? (mass video recording)

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 08:41 AM PST

Longtime IOS user just switched over to android.

I configured SD as internal storage, i could switch back. I thought internal storage would basically make it unified with the native file system. I'm confused.

See, I record a lot of video and I have limited internal storage. I got a big SD card but the device wont natively record to the sd card. I tried an app to solve this (Camera MX) but I would get corrupted video files.

Could someone point me in the right direction or provide advice about how to properly configure the SD card? I'm plugged in via adb, although not root (it was too much of a hassle on the moto play e5 ~~ tried and almost bricked my phone, lol). So I can see via adb shell access where all of the files are going, and how my sd card is sitting not doing much.

    Buy new phone or repair??

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 04:51 AM PST

So I just bought a Huawei Nova 5T for $600 a couple months ago and dropped it in water a few days ago. Everything works fine exept the screen which sometimes doesn't display anything/flickers and has bright water markings all over it. Cameras are fogged up as well but I'm sure are fine and just need a wipe. I took it too the place I got it from and they said they could send it away and replace the screen which will cost me roughly $400. If the phone has internal liquid damage and won't work even after they replace the screen then I wasted my money. Should I buy the same phone again or risk it and repair??

Retrieve data from phone with broken screen?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:10 PM PST

Hello. I have a Samsung Galaxy S9+ SM-G965U that has a broken screen (black screen, no touch) and I did not enable usb debugging when the phone was working. Is there a way to get data from the phone, or at least enable USB debugging? Thank you.

How is this still a thing?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:10 PM PST

I can't believe that after all these years, the voice to text on Android is still unable to recognize when you give time on the hour.

If you say "three o'clock" it will only register as "3" instead of "3:00" or "3 o'clock." It's as if the software literally doesn't hear you.

In the meantime, if you say "three fifteen," it will register as "3:15."

It's really frustrating when my job requires voice to text all day long and that a lot of it includes having to state time on-the-hour.

No Google results for why this is, or how to fix it.

    Dilemma, tethering issues, need ideas

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:02 PM PST

We are moving to a new office. No Fiber connected yet for another 2 months. No rapid Internet source is available except some Android Phones with good data plans. I am trying to use USB-C to tether through Ethernet (PEPLINK) . Phone instead wants to consume the internet and would not share it. I tried to tether it by USB tethering on our PEPLINK but PEP did not like it. What would you guys suggest there are at least 10 people in the office. Problem is office phones are not WIFI. Only last second ditch proposal is to forward the phones to cell phones but I am sure our community can come up with something smarter.

Does anyone know why my phone is having these charging problems?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 11:34 AM PST

It just started the other day. Most of the time whenever I plug a charger in, it won't charge. Other times it will which is weird. The only way I found to get it to charge 100% of the time is to restart the phone and plug the charger in right after the Razer logo shows up. Another thing it's doing is whenever I'm done charging and unplug it, the phone says it's still charging when it's actually not. Any help is appreciated. I've tried cleaning the USB-C port, cleaning the ports on the cords and bricks. I've tried using different charge cords and bricks as well but no dice.

How do I, a complete newbie to Android, strip everything unnecessary from a prepaid Android phone for my kid to use solely for wi-fi connected gaming, shooting photo/video, and viewing online video and web content?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 11:30 AM PST

I've browsed through various web guides and reddit threads, and my head is just kind of spinning from all of the information. I only know about iOS devices, and I can't afford nor want to shell out the $ for another Apple device. I also just don't have enough hours in my day to do all the research to learn enough about Android to be able to confidently setup my child's new device. Posting here in r/Android vs r/AndroidQuestions because it's not really a problem I'm having as much as it is that I'm looking for a quick primer about what's necessary to keep my kid's new device in good shape for the foreseeable future.

I basically want to disable/uninstall/delete everything that would negatively impact the battery life and/or performance of a prepaid Verizon-branded Motorola phone (moto e5 go running Android Oreo Go Edition) that I purchased for my 6 year old to use primarily when we play Pokemon GO. The phone has 16GB currently, but I'm willing to expand the memory if needed.

Other than using it for games, I anticipate that it may occasionally be used to shoot photos and videos or to view web content (most searches currently revolve around which Pokemon is the strongest, finding/displaying pictures of a specific Pokemon, and watching videos of Pokemon battles).

Are there any notifications that I shouldn't disable? Is there something like the iOS Background App Refresh that can be disabled for certain apps as appropriate? Is there anything that I should be aware of or add to ensure that updates and backups are made as needed? I uninstalled a few apps (I can't remember what) and added Google Family Link and Google Fit, but otherwise, this image shows all of the installed apps.

YouTube plays video in Photo when using desktop mode

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:13 AM PST

Most of you should know the trick of playing YouTube in the background that involves using desktop mode.

However, there's a problem with mines; when I tried to play YouTube videos in desktop mode, Google Photo pops up and plays the video instead, thus preventing me from pulling off that trick.

Does anyone know how to prevent Photo from interfering?

    Thanks!

Any way to remove YouMail voicemail tag?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 07:02 AM PST

GPS Tether from Android Phone to Android Head Unit in Car

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 06:42 AM PST

I've got an android head unit that I runGoogle Maps on, occasionally. The one time I go on a long trip GPS doesn't seem to be working. Unfortunately it sounds like it's wiring thing. If I remember correctly when I installed it and ran the cables behind the dash, I recall closing up and putting in the last panel when I heard a little thud. Since the GPS worked I was like f* it whatever it was I'm sure it'll be fine.

Well, been fine for 3 years but I can hear it rattling around, laughing at me.

So one thought was perhaps I can tether GPS via USB or WiFi hotspot. I've find a number of apps that support sending NMEA data that can be consumed by Google maps for instance. I've got dev access and usb debugging on the head unit but I don't have access to adb and by the looks of things termux doesn't support it. Fyi, I'm not looking at setting or control mock locations.

Has anyone managed to get this to work or perhaps can provide me with some advice? Researching all of this on my phone has been a pain in the ass so I thought it was time to talk to the community.

Are there any flagships that don't have glass backs? Preferably metal ones?

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 10:19 PM PST

Metal feels nicer in the hand, and doesn't pick up scratches nearly as easily.

Perfect example of this is the original Pixel - the glass panel got scratched to fuck without a case, but the majority metal back was almost pristine after 2 years of use.

Are any flagships still using anything other than glass? Ceramic like the essential phone would also be fine!

How to disable the 'Simplified view' banner for webpages in chrome for Android.

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 05:49 AM PST

    Hi everyone.

This has been an issue for me for a long time, across many devices, but until fairly recently, I've always been able to fix it.

I'm aware of the chrome flags method for disabling reader mode triggering, as well as the accessibility options setting.

I'm using the latest build of chrome on Android 10/Oxygen OS 10 on a OnePlus 7 Pro, the accessibility setting for reader mode is disabled, and the flag method is unavailable. I was able to disable the flag on my OnePlus 6 but for some reason it's just gone on this phone. I've just checked the availability of the flags setting for reader mode on a Note 10 and it's also missing.

Why the hell would Google remove our ability to get rid of the stupid banner at the bottom of the screen! I've spent hours googling and found nothing useful. I'm hoping that someone knows something I don't and can point me in the right direction.

I'm a hardcore Firefox user for everything but Android because I can't stand it's mobile app, and I'd really rather not have to switch from chrome to something else.

    Verizon has disabled call/msg continuity!?!

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 08:55 PM PST

    So I have a Note 10+, just got a Tab S6.

One of the features I was MOST excited about was the Samsung call/msg continuity feature, but Verizon has disabled it (insert expletives here) AND the Samsung Messages app didn't come installed on the tablet and isn't in the Galaxy Store.

Aaaaand of course I didn't realize before buying the tablet from Verizon and so I can't return it for an unlocked one.

I know part of this is that they're trying to force the use of their message app, but I've used it in the past and hate it.

Hoping someone has a brilliant workaround/app suggestion. Was really excited about finally getting to use this kind of feature on Android, am so bummed!
