Android Questions: which costume rom is the most similar to OneUI?

which costume rom is the most similar to OneUI?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:23 AM PST

i hear many good things about ONEUI, in terms of utility and productivity. such as: long screenshots , editing screenshots, versatile notification, rich settings etc.

i usee LOS, and while i can download apps to mimic these functions, it is not optimal. so which rom would fit my needs the most?

Wtf is this gray frowny face!?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:30 AM PST

I have an LG v35 thinQ. Recently, randomly, I click on a link and what comes up is a gray screen with a little gray square pixelized frowny face. This just started like 2 weeks ago. I can't find any info on it related to Android's (if I have when I click the link it's the damn frowny guy), just Google chrome on a PC. I've cleared the cache on the app and did the clean up or whatever. What is this thing and how do I make it stop? It's so frustrating!

    Cant modify share menu

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:24 AM PST

When hitting a share button, the share menu shows four contacts and a few apps but I can't pin or unpin any other contacts. A Longpress on anything gives me the option "App info" but nothing else. Sometimes the shown contacts change for no apparent reason. It's quite annoying since those contacts are the ones I rarely have contact with :(

App timer locks Reddit without using

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 02:31 AM PST

For a few days, the app timer locks Reddit even though I'm not using it. I've set it to 15 minutes and get the notification that I've got 10, then 5 and then 1 minute left for Reddit. In the end, it locks reddit completely.

I've tried stopping reddit in the settings but it hasn't helped. It is also not allowed to run in the background. Anyone who can help or having the same issue?

What happens if I don't delete /system while flashing a new rom?

    Posted: 30 Jan 2020 05:47 PM PST

Apparently it's not necessary a/c to TWRP faq. Since most roms delete /system while we flash them (seems pretty logical to me!).

Deleting /system led me to trouble as I rebooted and couldn't even get to fastboot. After some hardware key combinations, I was able to get to twrp, and flashed the chinese rom on my redmi 6 pro(sakura) device.

Gonna flash xiaomi eu to get rid of the chinese now. And ads.

    Additional questions:

    1. Which roms need you to manually wipe /system? Does xiaomi eu on stock rom require it?
    2. Why do I see so many posts about deleting /sytem? Is it a useless, even harmful, 'relic' from the past? Why is this even a thing?
    3. Is "clean" flash = 'factory reset+ wipe dalvik cache' from twrp OK?

S8 Edge storage is full but can't find any large apps

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:32 AM PST

My phone has been saying that the storage is full, even though it only gives 4GB of storage actually used. Out of 64GB, it says 63GB is being used for:

    • documents: 0 MB
    • Images: 170 MB
    • Videos: 10.9 MB
    • Audio: 0 MB
    • Apps: 3.8 GB

It's gotten so bad my phone wont even let me send or recieve texts sometimes. I've installed CCleaner and ran that, but both CCleaner and the cleaner on the phone only cleans a minimal amount each time. I had some stuff in my secure folder, but I moved all of it to the cloud. The files within secure folder are all empty as far as what it says is in internal storage. The ONLY files the file explorer lists within secure folder are Android -> data for 15 items that are all misc text files and very small file sizes.

This is crippling my phone and I'm tired of micromanaging it, what else can I do?

    Gboard keeps crashing.

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:15 AM PST

So this problem started a few months ago. It got a new update which made it impossible to use so I went back to an older version after a lot of testing. I also tested every few days to see if they fixed the problem but no. I was still okay cause there was no major feature updates and the older version that worked was quite alright. But an hour ago play store got an update (?) I'm not exactly sure but it started sucking up some data and after a minute gboard started crashing like hell. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling and everything but it just doesn't work anymore. After every reinstall there is a little "gboard is updating your user experience" notification and after that it starts crashing. So is there any solution to this problem? I'm using an older Samsung phone so wondering if the old OS is the culprit here. I'm on SwiftKey right now, it's alright but I just got used to gboard so it's a pain to switch to a different keyboard now. Sorry for my bad English.

ADB restores, refuses to execute for a 2nd time, on the same android device

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 11:01 AM PST

I was able to install Android on VirtualBox, and simulate a 'usb connection', by using its respective IP address, i.e. adb connect <guest ip address>, through ADB shell.

I was able to extract a backup file from my cellphone. I was able to successfully execute, adb restore, on the guest android, and transfer SOME, not all, of my cell phone backup to it.

I tried to execute ADB restore again, in hopes, that the apps AND directory files (e.g. MP3 files), that didn't get transferred could be, transferred in the 2nd attempt.

These are images of the 2nd attempt, in ADB shell.

Freezing apps instead of uninstalling them

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 10:50 AM PST

Is there a way to freeze installed apps so that they can't do anything on the phone unless I deliberately unfreeze them?

There are some apps that I want to keep on the phone but I don't want them to use any battery, notifications, etc. Basically nothing except using up storage. I only want them to run when I explicitly need them to.

    How can I do that?

Can't view a snapchat story of my Girlfriend on android

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 10:27 AM PST

I have a samsung s8 and tried opening my GF's snap story today but it wouldn't open. The blue circle around her profile is there, meaning that she posted a story. I tried clicking on it but whenever I do, the screen turns black, doesn't even open the snap and just closes out immediately. It's weird because I can open all of my other friend's snap stories and I was able to open her story before today as well. Is there a solution for this?

    Thank you.

How to change what happens when the Google app opens after long pressing the home button

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:33 AM PST

    Hello,

So up until a few days ago, everytime I long pressed the home button the Google app would open on the discover tab.

A few days ago it changed and now when I long press the home button Google Assistant opens app, but that's not the behaviour I want.

If I disable Google Assistant it prompts me to enable it after long pressing the home button.

I don't know how to change it back and have tried everything I could think of, any ideas?

Phone is Samsung Galaxy Note 10+, Android version is 10.

    Thank you!

I've had severely delayed notifications for every app, including texts.

I even factory reset the phone.

Any advice or leads into the right direction?

    Apps disappeared?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 09:08 AM PST

Hello all, this week the app icons in my app tray all shuffled around, and some have now disappeared. They still show if I search but dont show when I scroll through the app tray. As far as I am aware I've changed no settings and haven't updated the system software at all. Any ideas on a cause or fix?

A few notes on the shuffle:

    • folders have disappeared, apps that were in folders are now spread out
    • It did not shuffle to a specific order (alphabetical etc.) Was seemingly random
    • things like some game icons, which were previously all kept in the game launcher, are now dispersed in the app tray
    • the types of app that arent showing have no real rhyme or reason. Samsung apps like Notes have disappeared as well as third party apps like Asos.

    Things I have looked at:

    • disabled apps (none)
    • hidden apps (none)
    • sorting the app tray

Device is a Galaxy S10+, running on 3 mobile in the UK. Last system update was 31st Dec.

Sorry for any less than ideal formatting, posting on mobile.

    Thanks in advance!!

Would rooting my Android phone put me at great risk of identity theft and doxxing?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 08:48 AM PST

I talked to a friend a week ago about my decision to root my device and he was unsupportive. He said that my personal information can be stolen through an exploit and that I can be a victim of identity theft, doxxing, a permanent bricking of my device through a remote access vulnerability, or even stalking.

Is this true or is this fearmongering?

How to use EMUI Desktop or DEX with other phones?

    Posted: 31 Jan 2020 07:53 AM PST

I recently got a portable monitor to use with my phone and PC interchangeably. The PC works fine via mini HDMI to HDMI. However, my specific phone won't output to the monitor via type c. My friends Mate 20 Pro will via EMUI Desktop. However my Realme X2 Pro wont. Is this a hardware issue or do I just need like an app? How can I connect my phone to this portable type C monitor?

    Replies are appreciated, thanks guys!
