Deleting all files PERMAMENTLY (Can't be recovered)

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:19 AM PST

Hello. I plan to sell my Samsung S8 but before I do so, I would like to know how to delete everything so that it can't be recovered through rooting or some other things. I performed the ''factory reset'' 3 times but I heard it doesn't really delete the files. Can I somehow ensure that everything is deleted properly? (Through free software etc?)

    Thank you

Power button no longer turns off screen

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 07:37 AM PST

Woke up this morning and my phone (pixel XL) won't turn off. If I double press the dang button I get my camera, so I know the button still works. However, I can't turn my phone screen off/on.

So I got into the boot menu by pressing power+ volume up... and I can scroll around using my power button and my volume keys.... I just cannot choose any options (ie restart or recovery mode).

Alarm Apps no longer draw over apps to the foreground after S10+ Android 10 Update

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:51 AM PST

The title, basically. My sister's phone is identical to mine in terms of make, model, OS version and build level (we upgraded on the same plan at the same time) and her alarm apps work just fine when they go off. It makes no difference which app I try; Alarm Clock Xtreme, Alarmy, Gentle Alarm, etc - none of them appear in the foreground when the alarms go off. Furthermore, the alarm apps aren't located in the 'draw over other apps' for me to give them permission manually. Yesterday, I went as far as to wipe my phone and rebuild from scratch, and it made zero difference.

Any advice at this point would be greatly appreciated - thank you.

    Found unauthorized factory reset android

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:02 AM PST

Looking at a phone that had been sitting in the lost and found at a friends event space for a couple months. Once we found a charger and got the phone on it became clear why no one had come to claim it. Someone tried to factory reset but the security settings were triggered also looks like someone tried to pick open the SD card. It's a newish looking Samsung (J4 core or some such) and not sure what to do with it. When I go through the verification thing the number it gives me is no longer in service. Also the phone doesn't have any carrier markings on it.

Is there a way to find the google account so I could email them? Or where to return it to?

Seems like a lot of embodied energy to just end up in a landfill..

I dropped my phone and it won't turn on

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:04 AM PST

Slightly misleading title but I got bumped and dropped my Galaxy s6 Edge on the floor and it wouldn't turn in when I tried it. I plugged it in and it said I had the battery percentage I had when I dropped it and would turn on but as soon as I unplugged it it instantly went black and would not turn on. Everything looks fine on the outside and I had a case on. Is there anything I can do before I get home to fix it? If not, is there anything I can do to fix it once I get home?

    The Red Block Virus?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 09:05 AM PST

So recently, I've been having this issue with my android device where it auto installs 3 apps every time I connect to the internet:

    Shortcuts

An app with a link symbol surrounded by a green circle.

    Movies & TV

An app with a pair of 3D glasses for like theaters and whatnot

    Red Block

Some kind of terrible platformer/jumping game (similar to Sonic Jump and such)

Long story short, no matter how many times I uninstall all of these, they just keep auto-installing and not even from the Google Play store itself. I've scanned my device with multiple antivirus/antimalware apps and get nothing. So not sure what to do to make this stop, cause its really pissing me of that they automatically open up and try to run while I'm in the middle of doing other stuff.

Anyone know what these are? Is this a virus? Is this malware? Is this Google Play Store being cancerous? Like... I dunno. I don't have very many apps installed on my phone, in fact, besides Minecraft/Stardew Valley, Play Store, Play Games, and Google Chrome Canary, there isn't anything else installed except the pre-installed bloatware (which is all disabled).

    Blocking unwanted callers

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:17 AM PST

I have a pixel 3xl and I can't seem to find anything to block spam callers. Really I want something to block anyone who's not in my contacts. No call, nothing just never gets to me. The only option I found was this one. It doesn't seem to help. I also checked the spam filters in the phone app as well. Is there a good way to do this or does anyone know a better way to block all calls except from contact list? I receive two a day at least.

Hangouts notification behavior (and maybe other apps)

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 08:28 AM PST

When you get a message in a messaging app, Android shows you the preview, will let you reply from that preview with a single tap without opening the app, or a double tap should open up the app to the conversation in case you want to reply or read from there... Or at least this is what it used to do in Hangouts. I've noticed the past month or so, when I do the double tap, it just opens Hangouts to the last conversation that I had open, not necessarily to the conversation to the person that sent the message that I double tapped. Anyone else seeing this?

I Have A Chrome Virus and I Can't Get Rid of It

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:52 AM PST

Hello there! Yesterday, I attempted to download an apk mod for a game I use on my Samsung Galaxy s7. Yes, this was stupid. No, I will not do it again. Afterwards, I noticed that every five minutes or so, new google tabs would open up to spam sites no matter where I was. I tried downloading Malwarebytes, Avast, AVG, everything. I even cleared the cache on my browser. But no matter what I use, they can't find anything wrong. What can I do to fix this? Please help!

    Question about the calendar icon

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 07:53 AM PST

I have an Android Pie Galaxy S9 Snapdragon and the stock calendar icon changes with the date. This is a pretty cool feature, but as I'm sure many of us know. Samsung's icons look pretty bad. I have quite a few icon packs, and when lookkng in their files, they have separate icons for all the dates, but when I switch to a custom icon pack it doesn't changed date like it does with the stock icon. Is there any way to use a custom icon and still have it switch the date?

    Prevent apps from disabling clipboard

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:06 AM PST

There are some apps where devs made the catastrophically stupid decision to disable clipboard access on password (and other random) fields. Is there any way to have keyboard app ignore that idiotic configuration and allow me to paste from clipboard?

I'm using SwiftKey, but I'd be willing to switch to another keyboard (as long as it supports swiping) if I get my paste back.

My guess is they do that by preventing context menus from appearing.

[HELP] Note 10+ Edge lighting not working after recent update & screen doesn't wake up with notifications anymore. Just goes to A.O.D.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 11:04 AM PST

Note 10+ on Verizon. Just got the new update yesterday.

Edge lighting doesnt work anymore. The screen wakes up and goes straight to the A.O.D. screen and shows the icon of the app on the AOD. But no edge lighting...

Also, before, notifications would wake the screen and skip the A.O.D. Now it's not doing that either... I've looked through all the settings and cant find out how to fix this.

Wireless charger Samsung EP-N5200, strange sounds.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 10:56 AM PST

    Hey!
I have a question about wireless charger, Samsung 15W Wireless Charging Stand (EP-N5200) to be exact. My has some snapping sound near USB, its not a fan sound. Here is a video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OYoaekfe6uo&feature=youtu.be

From 6 second, if you put your volume up, you can hear it, as I know those must be transistors, and few people said that this is ok, but is it safe and should I give it for a replacement?

The phone is Samsung Note 8, and it mostly appears when fast charging is on. Bought this charger for my future s11/s20. :P

Can a Sumvision Cyclone Voyager tablet still be useful in 2020?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:46 AM PST

I was given a Sumvision Cyclone Voyager-BT tablet with Android 4.1.1, ARM Cortex A9 Dual Core 1.6GHz CPU, 1 GB RAM, 16GB NAND flash, which I thought I could use for basic web browsing, in the kitchen etc. But it runs like crap, even after restoring factory settings most clicks take a while before anything happens. Chrome is a snail even for basic sites, I tried Firefox and it's maybe a bit better, but still struggling.

I guess it might be okay for consuming content e.g. on a plane, but any interactive use (which is most of my use) is currently painful. And I'm not a hardware snob, I get by with my OnePlus 3T with Paranoid Android mostly fine (although what happened to Google Maps in the last few months?).

Is it worth trying to root and upgrade this thing on the basis that the factory software may contain some bloat, or should I just bin it and forget about it? I don't like the idea of binning it, but in its current state, it's barely fit for use.

    LTE Calling Broken - Help?

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:45 AM PST

So I am in a complicated situation.

Background: S10 5G from Verizon was refusing to SIM unlock, so I flashed ATT firmware on the phone and it accepted the SIM. However, I can either have 4G (HSPA) and be able to make and receive calls OR 4G LTE and no calls at all. (Also I am stuck on ATT firmware for now, so I can't flash back to VZW)

Jumping Forward: I discovered that using the Hangouts Dialer to make and receive calls DOES work while on 4G LTE.

The Question: What the hell is going on? Why do the regular dialers not work, but Hangouts does? What does it do differently?

And as a PS: I didn't have to do any of this for my S10+, just popped the Google Fi SIM in and all was good. Just this damn SIM locked S10 5G is trouble.

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 01:12 AM PST

Did QLink drop support for the Zte Z3001s? I saw a post before and it says that 7.1.2 has the fix but it just won't update. I really need this fix because i don't have enough money to get a replacement.

Find my phone won't update to new phone

    Posted: 03 Jan 2020 06:09 AM PST

Sorry if this is a re-post, i searched but the responses were generally people looking for their phone that was lost/stolen.

I upgraded from a Pixel 2XL to Note 10+ and I often used my google home to find my phone in the house if I couldn't readily find it myself. Unfortunately, it seems like I can't figure out how to change the default to where it finds the note instead of the pixel and it keeps saying "Your pixel 2xl should be ringing now" when i say it. I've signed out of the google account via the dashboard online, is there somewhere else I have to change my default device?
