Posted: 19 Jan 2020 11:30 PM PST Apple announced Face ID back in 2017 and since then, most Android manufacturers have adopted everything about the notch other than its infrared projector functionality. Google (afaik) has been the only one to include it on its flagship, while Samsung tiptoed towards it with its Samsung S10 5G (which used ToF to map the user's face in 3D), but seems to have walked that back with its Note 10 and the upcoming S20 releases (barring an unexpected leak). Has there been any official explanation (or speculation from a reliable industry insider) why it seems this feature hasn't been more widely adopted? To me, it seems like something an average consumer and an Android enthusiast would want. It certainly was the main reason why I went with a Pixel 4XL over other options. [link] [comments] | ||
