My Samsung Galaxy J6 doesn't recognise my external mic even though it has a TRRS output

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 09:27 AM PST

A lot of video guides solve this by converting to TRRS output. Mine has already got that output but still isn't recognised by any software.

    This is the mic: https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B077Z992XS/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Hopefully I can get it working.

How to end a Google response?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 10:26 AM PST

Very basic question. When I search I don't use Google Assistant I just hit the mic option on the home screen of my phone. More often than not the voice response I get is very long and the voice rambles on and on. This is not Google Assistant, right? How do I end the voice response?

For example, if I press the mic icon and say something like Las Vegas Nevada I may get a rambling response about Vegas which I don't want to listen to. How can I end / mute the response early without letting the voice response end?

    Thanks!

    Font size trouble

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 10:14 AM PST

So last night, the font size in my text messages suddenly changed to a larger size. I have no idea how this happened. I've been trying to change it back to the smaller size I had but I have no options to change it in the Messages settings, and I have tried multiple times to use the device settings. Anyone got advice on how to fix this? Or am I just doomed to large font in my text messages until I upgrade in the distant future?

Woke up this morning to something strange.

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 12:05 PM PST

I have not updated recently or change any settings and my phone has never done this before, however I did turn my phone off for the night. Woke up turned my phone on and there was this hideous bright white blur or "film" over my lock screen. Anybody know how or why its there and how to get rid of it? Have tried restarting and changing wallpaper. I hope this isn't a actual feature, why would anyone want their phone to look like there's plastic or white paper wrap around their phone. At least its just the lock screen that's ruined... Sorry for the slight ramble just very frustrated and thanks in advanced for anyone that has some knowledge on it.

Bluetooth lag for watching downloaded videos on VLC but not for YouTube ?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 06:58 AM PST

Hi all, I have a one plus 7 pro. I haven't had any problems but in the last 2 days I started getting lag on my downloaded videos when using all my Bluetooth headphones ( I have 2 ). But this problem doesn't happen when I watch YouTube videos with Bluetooth headphones, the audio is perfect for YouTube.

Is there any fix on VLC to remedy this?

Space under my keyboard will not go away (OnePlus 7 pro)

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 09:37 AM PST

There is a keyboard down button underneath the keyboard, similar to https://m.imgur.com/tHkc8JZ. I can't take a screenshot because my screenshotter makes the keyboard go away, but it's a lot like the above link but with the down arrow on the left. The original pay for that was by a different person with a Samsung phone and the setting that needed to be changed does not exist on OnePlus afaict. I recently got a new phone and can't find any setting for it. Any suggestions?

TL;DR: there's a bar under the keyboard, how do I get it to go away?

P.S. I'm new to Reddit should I have put this as a comment under the aforementioned post or was a separate post the right way to go?

    right clicking with a mouse

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 02:27 AM PST

i'm really hoping somebody can save me here.

I've connect a mouse and keyboard to my phone to remote into my home pc with but disaster strikes, the right click button on my mouse exits out of my phone's remoting program. It seems the right click button is saved as a shortcut to the back/home button.

Is there a way to get the right click button working as it should, perhaps by removing the physical keyboard shortcuts?

This is a bit of a problem as i would really like to be able to use the right click.

I've searched online and tried my phones web chat services for a solution but could not find anything.

Help! Chrome won't open any websites at all!

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 05:20 AM PST

    Hi everybody!

I'm spending my holidays at my parents' and my father asked me to fix the Chrome browser on his phone.

It won't open any sites at all, it just displays the "Aw Snap! Something went wrong while displaying this webpage" message again and again.

Any ideas, has anybody had the same issue?

    Just to clarify:

    • WiFi and data work perfectly.
    • All other apps work well as far as I know.
    • Cookies, cache and history cleared.
    • Samsung Galaxy J3

Thank you and Happy Holidays everybody!

State and Future of Chinese phones on the Western Market?

    Posted: 29 Dec 2019 04:56 AM PST

I'm talking Android phones by Xiaomi or Huawei from the point of view of a consumer in Europe. Not sure about North America under Trump, but in Europe those brands (with their European models) are a staple in consumer electronics. Ignoring politics and unknowns, there's no good to reason to avoid them if the specs match your needs.

Huawei advertises future-proofing their phones with a promise of Updates, but can they? Can Google cut them out from updates? Can and will they go with an open-source version? Can and will they include Google services? Can we even predict this?

How about backdoors and spying? Samsung as a company does not have a very good track record with privacy, same for Apple, Google, and Microsoft. Is there an elevated risk with Chinese companies? If I can't trust the OS (and hardware) we are all fucked anyway. At the moment, I feel, a Chinese company caught sneakingly extracting (meta) data from clients in the EU, will likely loose all their business, while Google or Apple would get away with it. Am I naive?

Besides updates and security, anything else to consider? Practically, a mid-range phone will be from Samsung, Motorola, or Huawei for many consumers in Europe. I'm excluding iPhones and Pixel here, because if that's what you want, you won't consider a mid-range Xiaomi anyway. Sure, there are other brands, but there are not so prominent or consistent. Nokia, LG, Sharp, Sony, ... may or may not release some good phones once in a while, but don't shape the market anymore.

So, besides specs and looks, what should one consider?
