Android 6.0 [Blu R1 HD] Wifi still using 30%+ battery when wifi turned off

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:10 AM PST

I have a rooted BLU R1 HD with android 6.0 (ad free) flashed to it. Currently, with all wifi settings turned OFF (Wifi off, Scanning off, wifi during sleep off), the battery monitor is still reporting that the Wifi system is using 30% or more of the battery in a day. This is absurd.

Upgrading devices is not in the cards right now, and i'm not sure if a system version update past 6.0 will brick the device seeing as it has been reflashed with the adfree firmware.

Does anyone have any idea what could be the issue?

Google Messages Issue (manual sending MMS)

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:12 AM PST

I'll start by saying normally I use Textra. Textra has a feature where it will automatically send an MMS message when the character count is greater than the 160 character SMS limit. Recently, I decided to try Messages to take advantage of the new chat features. Messages doesn't support the feature to send as MMS if it's over 160 characters. The work around was to long press the send button which would bring up the subject field, enter a subject and it would convert to MMS. This is where I am running into an issue. When I bring up the subject box, I can select it but I can't type in any text so my message stays as SMS. Does anyone else have this issue? Hopefully Google will open up RCS support to 3rd party apps soon and Textra will take advantage of it.

Is there a way to get something I miss from iPhone: automatically generated videos of the past year (in photos and videos)?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:37 AM PST

My iPhone used to automatically make sort of like a rewind of the whole year with music and so on. Is there an easy way to do this on Android?

Advertised battery vs actual detected (Dragon Max10, Android 9 Pie)

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 07:46 PM PST

I recently bought a new Dragon Max10 tablet which has an advertised battery of 5000 mAh. Accubattery and Phone Check both show that it is actually 2900 mAh. It's not just my device - I ordered one for my dad and his shows 2900 mAh as well. This is from Amazon, so it's possible, but unlikely that this is a counterfeit being sold as actual.

    Question

Is there usually a discrepancy between advertised and actual mAh like this for Android devices?

Note 10+ 5G Issues on Verizon

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:30 AM PST

So I've been having issues with my Note 10+ on Verizon. I seem to get decent network speeds but some apps (like FlightRadar 24) will load very slowly. I don't live in a 5G area but sometimes travel to areas with it, which is why I got it.

    Has anyone seen this?

Tapping on notifications in the status bar sometimes do nothing on Android Pie

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:00 AM PST

Using a Note 10+ on Android Pie. Sometimes when I tap a notification from an app in the status bar, nothing happens or sometimes just takes me back to the home screen. This happens in apps such as Amazon, Google, and others. I'm not sure what the problem could be?

I thought possibly it might have to do with the draw over other apps permission, but from what I can tell that is enabled. Does anyone else experience this?

I want to replace my Nvidia Shield K1, could you recommend me an android tablet which improves on all points while still being affordable?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 07:29 AM PST

Hey guys, I've had my K1 Shield since the beginning of 2017. And I used to really love it. But nowadays the battery life is really, really shitty and the system is also really laggy as well.

Do you have any replacement recommendations for me?

Which other tablet is the same size, has a great battery life, front facing speakers and a great ips display while costing around 200€?

Android version 10, Pixel 3 starts a bluetooth call to myself every time it connects to my car

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 11:12 AM PST

Hi, My pixel 3 starts a Bluetooth call to my own phone number every time it connects to my car. There is no sound, and I don't think its the google assistant since I don't get a response when I say "Hey google". All of my searches either come up with a "me too" thread or uninstall this app that I don't have.

I thought my car was causing this issue but it does it on my wife's brand new car so I don't think that would be the issue. Does anyone know how I can track down what is initiating this Bluetooth call, or any ideas on how to fix this issue?

How do i leave facebook messenger groups if i deleted them?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 11:05 AM PST

A while back i deleted a few old messenger groups that i used to use. I found out recently that deleting the conversation didn't remove me so i'm technically still in them.

Is there any way for me to access them so i can leave them? I don't talk to the people in them anymore so i can't ask them to remove me.

Don't ever remember setting a voicemail pin, have been totally unable to access my voicemail.

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:39 AM PST

Got my first andriod phone a few months back and ever since getting it I have been entirely unable to access my voicemail. It prompts me to enter my voicemail pin which i do not recall ever setting. I figured its possible I set one and forgot about it (super unlikely though, i dont know why i would bother pinning my voicemail anyways) so i tried every single pin i have ever used and none of them worked, so it seems i was not the one to set a voicemail pin. how do i access my voicemail?

I just updated to Android 11 and I find the new media, devices, and 'silent notifications' labels unnecessary and sloppy. Any way to remove them?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 10:18 AM PST

I've highlighted the 3 things I'm referring to here. I don't want them and I'm hoping I can remove them. Thanks!

    Edit: ANDROID 10. Woops.

    Headset microphone issues

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 09:33 AM PST

Hi, I have issues with marshall headphones with microphone (on wire). When I make a call, the other side hears just a faint voice and lots of static when I am talking. It is completely silent, when I am not talking. The issue is only when calling. Sound recording and voice commands work completely fine, so thats interesting....

The microphone works on other phones just fine... Which is also interesting...

Last thing is, that the phone in question (cubot h3) is working with other headsets just fine. What could be wrong? :/

    You Tube and Spotify pausing

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 08:58 AM PST

The You Tube and Spotify apps on my phone (Galacy S8) are almost unusable anymore.

YouTube keeps pausing videos, every 15-30 seconds or so. It's been doing this for the last ~ month.

Spotify will just randomly pause, and when I go back to play it will have jumped on a good bit. Also happening ~ a month.

I've tried clearing the cache, uninstalling and redownloading, but nothing seems to fix it.

Has this happened to anyone else, and if so how did you stop it?

Help Syncing Photo Gallery Between Devices

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 01:18 AM PST

    Hi,

I'm looking for a very simple way to share my photo gallery between my S9+ and Galaxy Tab A.

My ideal way for it to work would be for me to take photos with my phone, and be able to view them in both my phone's gallery and my gallery on the Tab A. I don't need everything else in my gallery like WhatsApp stuff as its mainly just for photos I take.

Is there a simple way to do this? I'm using the stock camera and gallery if that helps, not the Google camera or photo gallery.

    Thanks in advance

Anyone else notice a red tint on their homescreen when they have their phone in dark mode after today's update? Samsung Galaxy S10+

Edit: Found the fix "Found the fix. It's in the display settings under dark mode. Tap dark mode and click "apply to wallpaper" off." At this forum https://forums.androidcentral.com/samsung-galaxy-s10-s10-plus/987475-home-screen-red-tint-after-vz-10-0-update.html

Has anyone experienced any battery drain with Microsoft Launcher? If yes, what did you do to reduce/eliminate it? And will all external launchers cause battery drain, or is this just special of Microsoft launcher?

Should I get an Android phone with 128GB or is 64GB enough?

    Posted: 27 Dec 2019 01:21 PM PST

Update: Thank you to everyone who took time to reply. I read all the comments even if I didn't respond. That being said, I decided on the 128GB version. Originally I was leaning towards the 64GB because I figured it would be enough with how I use my phone, but as someone pointed out, it's a pretty small margin for a price difference and considering the points some of you made about the new changes coming to Android and how they would affect storage, I figured this was one of those times when spending a few extra dollars made more sense than saving them, especially since I'm hoping to get at least 2yrs of usage (definitely wouldn't complain if I got more) out of the phone. Thanks again guys & gals!

My current phone is at the end of its lifespan and I need a quick replacement. While my phone isn't my most used device or anything like that (so I don't care about getting the latest or greatest), I still want to get something with decent specs and functionality where it matters most for me i.e. gaming and taking the occasional selfie.

So after searching I've settled on getting the Xiaomi Redmi Note 8 Pro, only thing is I can't decide if I should get the 128 GB version at $235-245 or the 64 GB version at $216 and add a micro SD card in the future if I ever need one (this one also comes with a bundle option that comes with a case and 64 GB mirco sd that clocks in around $233 but I probably wouldn't get the bundle if I went with the 64GB option).

    Which would be better?

Is there an app that can show CPU utilization on Oreo and above? Root access is fine.

EDIT: To clarify, I'm looking for something that will display usage per-app, like the Linux top command or Windows Task Manager.

    Anti-Adware suggestions

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:40 AM PST

Is there such a thing as anti-adware for Android? I tried Malwarebytes to solve a problem I'm having but it didn't work. My problem is: from time to time my browser opens a random advertising page. It's not the browser's fault (I've uninstalled it and it keeps happening with the substitute browser). It also doesn't seem to be another regular app triggering it, as I've installed AppWatch and it didn't track any app activity before opening the browser. It feels like a typical malware/adware but Malwarebytes didn't find it.

record video on phone and have it save to pc?

    Posted: 28 Dec 2019 06:40 AM PST

So, I want to record a video on my phone, but I don't want it to run out of storage half way through, is there a way I can record the video, and have it save to my computers HDD instead of the phones memory. Thanks!

If needed, my phone is an LG G6 running Android 9
