How do I disable the "listening to high volume can be dangerous" warning on Note 9?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:39 AM PST

Is there any way to disable this pop up warning? I'm running One UI, Android version 9. The only time I get this warning is when I'm either listening to something through headphones, or when the phone is connected via Bluetooth to my car audio system.

I don't receive calls and SMS messages while I can call, send SMS messages and use Internet on my phone

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 04:33 AM PST

Some clarification - SMS is how we call the good old instant message over mobile network, still used on a daily basis in my country. I have some hunch that I already had to clarify that once, because it is simply called "IM" in some/most countries.

    Hello,

I'm looking for some advices related to issue mentioned in title. Maybe you have some ideas of diagnostics or reasoning that will take me to conclusion whether I have to change/fix my phone or change a mobile carrier.

Issue in title happened for me 3 times over span of 5 months. Despite rarity, it is quite obnoxious. Combination of me being able to do everything as usual and nobody being able to reach me makes it go unnoticed for hours. I Almost had my guests go long way back home (unluckily, they forgot apartment number where I live, but luckily managed to find my place) and I had some long awaited appointment cancelled because it wasn't confirmed at the right time (imagine that it could be important job interview). Looks like we're slaves of this mean of communication nowadays, so I don't like it failing for me.

    Symptoms making carrier a suspect

    • Coincidence:
      • Issue happened only at home,
      • Issue never happened until I moved here,
      • Some neighbors experienced same issue (reportedly).
    • Inconsistent behavior noticed by a person who has volunteered to help me diagnose the issue and called me several times:
      • There were two types of outcomes:
        • 4 times: 10-20 seconds of complete silence after dialing my number 🡒 Mobile carrier picked up with automated prompt to dial "1" (or some number) and have SMS message with "call me back" notification sent automatically 🡒 it was chosen 🡒 carrier confirmed and hung up the call,
        • 2 times: 30-60 seconds of complete silence after dialing my number 🡒 3 "busy" signals and call was hung up,
      • To be clear: there was no dialing signal on all attempts, just silence,

    Symptoms making phone a suspect

    • Phone restart fixes the problem:
      • Other ways to 'restart' connection with carrier don't help:
        • Turning off mobile radio in hidden menu *#*#4636#*#* for about a minute doesn't fix the problem,
        • Taking phone to place with no signal and getting back doesn't help too.
    • Most relevant and trustworthy answers from neighbors (mentioned in previous section) point phone antenna as a problem.

Other symptom that don't clearly point at carrier or phone

    • According to experience so far, probably some SMS messages got lost and never reached me.
    • Last time I got delayed messages in very short burst, after 1-2 hours delay (that has followed restart and confirming that I can receive calls and messages).

What I have checked / done

    • I have submitted issue report to phone carrier and after several weeks got answer that they haven't found any issue (they didn't provide information on what they did, so it looks a bit shady, but this is probably how carriers' support works)
    • On last occurrence I have taken logs through adb logcat (before and after phone restart), then browsed / analyzed / compared / googled. Not a single log showing incoming call, especially that I have done a test described before to look for some logs. My outgoing call had a ton of logs, none of which was logged around time when I should have received incoming calls.

What I didn't to check so far

    • I forgot to try to drive somewhere while having the issue to find out what will happen around different BTS,
    • I think I should be able to aggregate logs using some DB and look for most uncommon logs, just in case I could overlook something (but that's unlikely).

    Phone

    • Xiaomi Redmi 4 Prime 3GB / 32GB - bought from origin market (China), but from popular and trusted Hong Kong Goldway store, used for ~2-3 years already,
    • MIUI Global 9.2.3.0, Android 6.0.1 MMB29,
    • Update to MIUI 9.5.5.0 is impossible due to a separate issue.
    • Carrier: Plus GSM.

Samsung s10 screen seems to be much worse than my Pixel 4 screen. Driving me crazy

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:03 AM PST

    Hi,

I have a s10 since it came out and love the phone, yesterday I also got a Pixel 4 and it also seems really cool. I have been comparing them since yesterday and one thing that is driving me crazy - the display.

The icons seem to be sharper on the Pixel and if I open the same picture on both devices - the Pixel shows it much clearer, the colours are brighter and more alive.

I dont think that the S10 has a much worse screen that the Pixel 4 so this should not be the case.

I tried playing around with the phones settings, blue light filter brightness, resolution, screen modes ( vivid vs normal ) etc. I literally cant find anything else that I could change to make it better.

Do you have any suggestions on what I could check because I honestly cant believe that there would be such big of a difference between the phones?

I also have another s10 which I just remembered while typing this, when I get a chance I will check on that one as well how it looks. Thanks in advanced.

My USB c flash drive is not being recognized by my phone anymore.

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 10:14 AM PST

So I have a USB c Sandisk drive I use sometimes for file management when away from a computer. When I got it, everything was fine and worked good with my Sony Xperia 1. 3 months later, I try to plug in my drive into the phone, and it is not showing up. The drive is formated to FAT32, the phone throws a message "Android System * Charging connected device via USB". What can I do to fix this?

    Phone doesn't boot into recovery

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:23 AM PST

    Good morning/afternoon/night, wherever you are.

I have a Lenovo Vibe K5 and I rooted it a couple months ago, installed TWRP but kept the stock ROM. Since then, I bought a new phone and gave the K5 to my grandpa. He was using it yesterday when suddenly it rebooted but kept stuck on the boot screen.

I tried installing a previous backup of the stock ROM through TWRP but it kept rebooting and not finishing the installation, and now it doesn't even boot into the recovery, it just freezes on the Lenovo logo.

I wiped the original ROM to install the new one just like a did a few months ago, but this time it didn't work.

Have I bricked the phone for good or there's any way that I can fix it?

    Thank you in advance.

Music and photos cancelled by phone

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 04:50 AM PST

Hi guys, I'm writing here because a few days ago in my phone (Nokia 6 with Android 9) all of my songs and photos disappeared completely out of the blue. Basically, I can't find anymore the directory in which I stored all those music files (which where in the SD card), also reaching them through the Files app. Does anybody have a solution for this? I tried to search online for help but nothing worked (restarting, putting out and in the SD card, ecc). Thank you in advance for your answers!

    Are triple cameras worth it?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:46 AM PST

A few days, I bought a Moto g 7 Play from my carrier, MetroPCS, to replace my ZTE Blade (whose power button inexplicably stopped working), and I really regret this purchase. The single camera is so disappointing; every shot I've taken (including outdoors in good lighting) is of low quality. In contrast, the raw images shot with my ZTE's dual camera were so detailed, focused, and crisp -- I didn't have to do much editing, and in fact, I often posted untouched photos on my Instagram feed. (That phone cost less than the Moto too).

So now I'm looking for an affordable unlocked smartphone with a better camera to buy off Amazon, and I've been reading about triple cameras. Do they really make a difference compared to a dual camera? Also, does anyone know if I'd lose my hotspot capaability with MetroPCS in an unlocked phone?

    Galaxy Note 9

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:35 AM PST

There was an update a while ago where after I respond to a text message notification, the notification stays but just with my response. Drives me crazy. Anyone know if that can be turned off?

Bought a used LGV20, just wanted to know what this garbled stuff before boot up is...

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 11:20 AM PST

I bought a used Verizon LG V20 to use for an automotive diagnostics app and it seems to boot fine into the OS, but before it does it displays some ghosted/garbled screen. Any way to fix? Anything to be worried about? I haven't used android much and never owned an LG phone.

Model – LG-h910, Android 8.1.0, Android Security Patch Level 9/5/2019, Vendor Security Patch Level 11/16/2017

Further build info and example of issue is listed in the linked photos.

    Thanks.

I've been having this annoying bug, where if I connect my headphones to my Pixel 3a, it starts with the volume the same as the last time I disconnected. However, when I turn my screen off and on it suddenly jumps to max volume.

Anyone experiencing this bug or have a solution?

Is it worth buying an Nvidia Shield over a Mi Box S if I (probably) won't be playing games on it?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 09:22 AM PST

I've had a first gen. mi box for a couple of years now and have always had issues with it being laggy, sometimes freezing up entirely, having issues streaming in general, etc. and was considering upgrading now that some newer devices are on the market. I was CONSIDERING upgrading to the new version but have seen a lot of talk about how the Shield is the only android TV box to even consider at this point. While the price is almost 4x the price of the Mi Box, if its that much better all-around then it could be worth upgrading... Anyone have experience with both?

I figure someone here may have ran in to this before and hope there might be an easy fix. If I have the app send a test alert it sends with white text, but all actual alerts use black text instead. Is anyone aware of any settings in the app or system settings in Android that could fix this?

    Pop up ads

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 04:24 AM PST

So, I've bought a new phone a couple of days ago (Huawei p30 lite) and I get a lot of random adds popping up when I'm using it (not in an app, just an add displayed over other apps), when I go and check my open apps it suddenly disappears, preventing me from tracking the app generating these adds. Airpush detector didn't help me, I uninstalled all the apps it gave me that I wasn't 100% sure of didn't cause the issue. Is there any way of tracking down the app responsible for these adds?

edit: it's solved now i think, i haven't gotten any ads in a while, I'm not sure wich app caused it but I'm pretty confident it's a translation app pre-installed on my phone, i uninstalled it so I'm not 100% sure of the name, but it was something like "translate all"

    Context Menu Help

    Posted: 27 Nov 2019 06:53 AM PST

I have an issue with my Note 9.

When I am browsing on either Internet, or Chrome, and want to press on a hyperlink, the menu that popped up used to show up on the bottom of the screen, with the link mostly visible.

Now, when i press on a hyperlink, the context menu shows up where i am pressing, and the link is barely visible. I am trying to figure out how to change it back to the way it was. Any advice?
