Controversial opinion but I love autoplay mmos. What's your favorite?

    Posted: 25 May 2022 01:00 PM PDT

I like letting it sit and watch the numbers go up. I play a bunch of pure idle games, so mixing idle and mmo is fun for me. I know they're all p2w whalefests, but it still gives me dopamine.

Does anyone have one in particular they enjoy? I don't really like black desert, or lineage. But I did like Tales of Wind, I'm loving the new Ni No Kuni.

Is there a controller I can connect to my android to give it a sort of clam shell design?

    Posted: 25 May 2022 12:39 PM PDT

I want to use a controller with my android device but I don't want to lose portability.

I can clasp it and use only the screen. and unclasp it and use the controller at will.

I want to keep the portability whilst not having the weird angles.

The controllers that go on the side make the phone too long.

Any reliable 'Made in America' alternatives to the 8bitdo controllers for Android/Firestick?

Any reliable 'Made in America' alternatives to the 8bitdo controllers for Android/Firestick?

I just don't think it's very wise to purchase the $50 8bitdo controllers for my Firestick with the very real possibility that it could die in a few months to a year.

All the other 3rd party controllers I'm seeing have really bad reviews. Do I not have any other options?

    Gaming design....what?

    Posted: 25 May 2022 01:44 PM PDT

Ever since I have joined this Subb, I have seen a lot of posts about people bringing out new games.

I gotta ask, how do you do it?

I assume on PC, so what programs and/or apps do you use?

Anything with "Premium" features? Anything Free?

What physical tools do you use, mouse and keyboard, slide tablet, rolling mouse?

I have some ideas for games but I have no where to start

Games like Sorcery! but from different genres than fantasy?

    Posted: 24 May 2022 09:58 PM PDT

I really love Sorcyer! so far - probably the best mobile game I've ever experienced. Specifically loving how it's a combination between old CYOA text games and the dialog choice systems you get in Fallout/Elder Scrolls. I also really love that it has artwork alongside the text.

I wouldn't mind more fantasy stuff along those lines, but I'm mostly looking for sci-fi or post-apocalypse types of games. Anyone know if something like this exists?

4 challenges I faced and how I solved them when I developed my 1st ionic-react game for Android.

    Posted: 24 May 2022 11:49 PM PDT

4 challenges I faced and how I solved them when I developed my 1st ionic-react game for Android.

I was pretty familiar with React and I wanted to make a mobile game, my first mobile game. I had some experience in mobile, but it's very limited. A good candidate for a mobile platform was Ionic, as it was simpler than react-native in terms of setting up dependencies. And I've chosen react over angular as I like its template syntax more.

1st challenge was defining the game genre and what views I needed.

Well, I did some research on genres in play market the games that were install leaders and looked not too complicated. As it was my first game I expected to be stuck on a lot of things I saw for the 1st time and I didn't want the gameplay to be one of them. So I've chosen 3 in a row style game. It's kinda popular and not very demanding.

So as in any game, my game is supposed to have a main screen where the player will play, and actually that can be it, but it appeared to be confusing to jump in the game straight away, so I needed another settle screen where the player could trigger the start of the game.

I decided to not overcomplicate with pages routing and make popups for the game state changes like pause, win, loose etc. That actually worked well then worked a bit faster than routing to another page, generally I would recommend to do a separate route when the page is totally different by its purpose. I ended up having 7 popups and 3 pages. I split up components on pages, HOCs, components with lists and components with items.

2nd challenge is to find suitable assets. I'm not a game artist, but I understand that colors and assets draw style should match so that the game could look natural.

Keeping that in mind I used google for the images search that I liked surely I needed free transparent pngs and some websites provide them, some websites require paid subscription, some allow to download up to 2 png per day for free, some don't have a limit to get pngs for free, but of course quality of the images is different.

3rd challenge implementing game mechanics was the most difficult. I played tons of similar games to write down pros and cons for my game. It doesn't make any sense to copy the entire game you liked, you probably will be banned. And you have to have some otherness that will differentiate you from others so that players will recognize you. Take a time to think about what would be the idea or purpose behind your game, it can be a projection from real life or if you have a good imagination you can come up with something more interesting.

4th challenge handling game states - showing loose, win, pause popups, game loop, game time counter, level reward, number of items in the basket, I can continue, you got the point, there are a lot of things, but some of them you will need just in 1 place, some of them in "every" component, some of them you'll need to persist in storage like game progress for example. Depending on that I divided state on local components state, redux state, and variables inside components. I used a standard ionic capacitor plugin for storage and made a fallback for the web local storage to speed up and simplify the development.

This is what I came up with, it's about to be released https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.shadeResidence.tileFruit,

now in open testing. Let me know in the comments if you faced the same issues or have different experiences.

Do you know a good Post Apocalyptic Game that follow these criteria?

    Posted: 24 May 2022 06:36 PM PDT

    • No intrusive ads that pop up without my consent. I'm ok with optional ads in the corner, or even better- a paid/premium version where they do away the ads completely.

    • Leaning towards controlling only one survivor, but managing a colony is also fine as long as it's not too micro intensive

    • Primarily a survival gameplay. Crafting, Upgrades, (or building shelter if it's a colony sim)

    • Not a requirement, but the ability to interact with other players would be nice (like trading for example)

    • No extremely time gated content, like you can only do one upgrade every 24 hours or some BS like that.

I asked because there are just too many results in the playstore, and to be honest, a lot of them look the same so I seek help.

I've only had a smartphone for 5 months (yea) and I've been a PCgamer all my life so I'm relatively new to all this. So far I've only been playing a historical colony builder and I want to expand my hobby.

    thanks

(some popular results that I'm seeing- State of Survival, Day R, Last Day on Earth, Life After. If you have opinions on these four, I would like to hear them. But feel free to recommend something else)

    Thanks again

    Any good recommendation for couples?

    Posted: 25 May 2022 04:09 AM PDT

It could be from something casual that you could play on the go, in less than 5 minutes while you're waiting for something. Or a game that can take you maybe half an hour. It could be online, arcade, via Bluetooth etc.
