Looking for a TV that lets me use SmartTubeNext and very confused

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 04:17 AM PST

I bought a Toshiba TV which was supposed to be an android TV or something along those lines, it seemed to describe options for installing anything and it ends up being a linux based system, with no way of adding anything at all to it. Won't read APK's from USB, won't download apps other than the ones on the toshiba built in store.
From extra reading and asking lots of people, some people have said their LG tv lets them install 3rd party apps, downloaders, screen mirroring apps and things like that.
Others have said to get a fire TV, or a fire stick, or some sort of nvidia shield device, but I don't fully understand the difference between a fire tv, smart tv and android tv
A voice control without the need of alexa or google is something that peaked my interest about LG, but I felt I may aswell ask people here what I ought to do since the "TV boxes" and firesticks seem to have their own voice controls too.

I'm not too happy with the TV I ended up with so I'll be trying my best to refund it using the "Distance selling regulations" since the retailer (Ao.com) tries to say that if you plug something in then you can only get up to 50% of the cost refunded. Anyone got suggestions? Thanks in advance for the help. I saw before posting this that I can find a list of android TV devices on a site linked, so I'll check that out in the meantime.

FYI: walmart has restocked the 4K Onn box, still $19.88 despite stores selling for $30

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 07:50 AM PST

There was a thread the other day about people buying these out and scalping them. Walmart has restocked them again (as they do weekly for the most part). So if you are looking for what is easily the best value for a 4K Android TV box with a good remote, you can purchase them again.

When is new Google TV like Android TV Launcher releasing on other countries?

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 06:21 AM PST

So i have a Xiaomi Mi Box S running on Android TV 9 and i pretty much still have the same launcher as the one from android tv 8.1 but other people has the new google tv like android tv launcher. But i didnt have it and i had no idea why, until i realized thats its prob just in the US, India and Europe. But i dont really know which countries support them. I used a VPN to connect to new york and i got the update but when i disconnect my vpn, it just reverts back to the old one. Im from the Philippines and prob havent got the update yet. Is there a release date table for other countries that i havent seen for the new launcher? or i just missed out on everything else, but i do get that its still pretty new. When i was using the launcher with a vpn. The UI is fluid and smooth. Is there like a problem with other streaming services cause of the new Discover tab for other countries. Cause i dont really know.

Philips 55pus8204/12 keeps hopping off and on wifi

    Posted: 24 Jan 2022 03:54 AM PST

It can connect just fine, but every 5 minutes it hops off and 10 seconds later it jump on again. I can't download any updates because it disconnects in the middle of it, so it has to start over and whatnot. I've tried a hard reset, we're approx 3 meters from the router, which I've tried changing to another. It's only the tv that disconnects nothing else. Anything I can try?

    UK Streaming App Situation

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 10:35 AM PST

I'm really annoyed with the streaming app situation for the Google TV device in the UK. We don't have access to an app for All 4, Sky's NOW, BT TV, Britbox, UK TV Play - I know most of these can be cast and that Britbox can be available as part of Prime Video but that seems besides the point when other platforms, including Fire TV which runs on a version of Android TV, has these apps available. Just really wish they'd sort it out!

    OTT Android tv box

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 11:02 PM PST

Hey everyone, just received an OTT Android tv box t8 pro with Android 5.1, I was wondering if there's any rom out there that I can flash to upgrade the Android os. It was laying around at my uncle's house and instead of junking it I wanted to see if there's a way to give it new life since I'm not in the market of spending money on a new one. I've flashed roms on Samsung devices many times before but it's hard finding a rom for this tv box. The brand looks Chinese so is it possible to flash a rom from a different company possibly with a higher Android without bricking it. Thanks in advance.

Auto Start / Launch on Boot

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 06:46 AM PST

I'm trying to get an app to execute shortly after the tv restarts. After reading this page on androidtvnews.com, I tried "AutoStart - No Root" and "Launch on Boot" plus a couple other apps. Nothing seems to work, any advice is appreciated. (I'm using a Hisense U6G that shipped with Android 9)

Any way to remove Android TV from Google Home app?

    Posted: 23 Jan 2022 02:24 AM PST

When I open my Google Home app my Mi TV Stick shows up. Is there any way to get rid of it? I don't want everyone on this network to be able to see what I watch.

I'm not talking about the notification you get when streaming using the Chromecast feature. I know how to disable that.

Google Duo and MiBox - Microphone issues

    Posted: 22 Jan 2022 12:57 PM PST

I have a MiBox (Mibox 4, version 9) with a webcam and Google Duo installed.
When I make a call (video or voice) my MiBox pics up the mic from the remote and NOT from my usb web camera (Hikvision Digital Technology DS-U12) and my mic cuts out after about 10 seconds. (They cant hear me)

Side Note: If I press the Mibox Google speech button my mic is active but cuts again after a few seconds.

Now you might say the Web Cam or something else is giving me the issues but I ran a few basic tests:

    1. My fater and brother has the exact same model MiBox and exact same cameras. They called each other and the video and mic was fine (Pics up voice on the webcam mic) and also did not cut after a few seconds.
    2. Camera works on laptop (Video and Mic) using Google Duo
    3. Reinstalled Google duo
    4. Reset the entire MiBox and reinstalled Google Duo
    5. Made sure I am on latest Android TV version

I've googled for answers and I have no luck and that is why I am turning to you. Anyone with ideas?
