    Why is NewsBreak installing itself

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 11:26 AM PDT

I'm having a big problem with the app NewsBreak, that being i've never installed it and its insisting on living in my phone rent free. I'll delete the app, but it'll just redownload itself anyways. I've turned off auto updating but didn't stop it. Even worst, when i did open the app, it ask for my location, i said no but it took my location regardless! For some reason when its open on my phone, it will slow everything down way to much. Honestly really scummy and im worried for my phones safety. Is there anyway to stop this from happening?

Edit: restarting my phone removed it for good it seems, I saw other people say they opened an ad for and that downloaded without permission, i guess i did the same. Moral of the story, don't open ads for scummy apps.

    Offline Website

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 05:33 AM PDT

So, I fly frequently for work, and am too cheap to pay for in flight wifi, so much of the online browsing I would normally do to pass the time isn't feasible.

I know how to download an individual web page for offline viewing, but is it possible to download an entire website with all its subdomains offline? My particular use case is for an online wiki for a game I enjoy playing. Ideally, I would have an offline copy of the website, where I could use its search bar to go to various pages, just as if I was using it with a normal internet connection. I realize that this would take up a decent amount of storage space, but I have a good amount on my phone available for use.

If anyone knows of an effective way I could go about doing this, I would be very much appreciative!

Is there an option to turn the notification sound for a specific app ON, while the overall setting stays on "vibrate only"?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 10:21 AM PDT

Would there be a way to set up regular reminders within a certain time period that ONLY vibrate?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 09:33 AM PDT

I'm looking to set up a "posture check" reminder for myself that works by simply vibrating the phone one single time, maybe every 15 minutes, during my waking day, but doesn't leave a notification or anything like that. It seems I can't find a way to customize one like that whether I try with Reminders, Alarms, or Bixby Routines. Maybe there's an app that could allow this?

Currently on an S10+ with android version 11.

Android One, Earpice speaker increse volume?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 11:55 AM PDT

My phone got water damage, (basically drowned) but somehow magically survived, but the earpice speaker now have lower volume but otherwise sounds fine.

Probably because its damaged but is there any way to boost the volume of it in calls at least little bit?
If not I may have to buy a new phone after all.

(It is dry now, its a Nokia 8.1)

Found another tread that mentioned acessability setting in phone app but I cant find anything like that, I am guessing its only there for phones that the earpice speaker doubbles as a normal speaker.

Why do I need to uninstall Google Play updates?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 11:03 AM PDT

I have a Motorola E 2020 running Android 10 (June 1, 2021 security patch level) and I finally discovered the only way for me to interact with Google Play (install, open) is to return the Google Play app to its factory settings. This means hitting the action to "uninstall Google Play updates". Please help. I shouldn't have to do this and somehow Google Play always gets updated (even with auto-updating off) so I have to redo this every time I want to install anything. I tried other things like clearing the caches of Google Play and Google Services.

With Android 8.0 no longer supported and Android 12 on the horizon, does it seem likely that Android 8.1 will get dropped next?

Creepy Harry Potter song started playing with no source. What just happened?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 09:14 AM PDT

Just browsing home page of reddit, opened up one of the posts, probably tapped something and randomly, i started hearing the same HP song playing on repeat. I closed reddit and it was still playing! I think i likely hit an ad or something. The song was pretty generic, probably the theme song. No, i haven't touched anything HP related in forever

In terms of future proofing, is it better to have greater software support or better hardware?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 09:00 AM PDT

I'm planning on buying a new phone and the most important thing that I'm looking for is longevity, that is, to get a phone that will last as much as possible before I need to replace it, something like 4+ years.

The two phones that are within my price range and that I think will fulfil this criteria are: Poco F3 and Samsung Galaxy A52s

Now, I'm in a bit of a dilemma of deciding which of these two phones I should take, and the only thing that remains is to decide which of the features of these phones provide better future-proofing.

Poco F3 for example, comes with amazing specs for it's price range (SD870 CPU, Adreno 650 GPU, 8GB (DDR5) RAM, UFS 3.1 Storage speed) which seem to be flagship grade, and it does have IP53 rating. However, from what I've read, it does come with a weaker / sluggish software, that is, it's operating system MIUI, and less update support.

A52s on the other hand comes with weaker specs that are mostly aimed towards midrange phones (SD778 CPU, Adreno 642L GPU, 6GB (DDR4) RAM, UFS 2.1 Storage speed), but it does come with a bit more stable OS, more software support, and IP67 rating.

Both phones have specs that are overkill for my minimal use cases. I don't do a lot on my phone other than browse the net and watch YouTube videos, and I try to avoid dropping my phone on the ground and water so I'm not sure how much the IP ratings are relevant here. The only remaining factor in deciding which of these two phones I should get is whether or not taking a phone with better hardware (F3) has an advantage of taking a phone with better software support (A52s)?

On the one hand, if I take F3, I'll have better hardware, but less updates to push that hardware to it's maximum efficiency, and due to my use cases, I wonder if I should even bother with stronger specs, whereas if I take the A52s, I'm worried about the opposite, if it's midrange CPU (SD778) will be enough for those years ahead to push things through smoothly and without stutter, and if all these software updates will eat up more and more (of it's limited 6GB) memory.

I know that I'm probably overthinking this, but seeing how the prices are quite similar (with A52s being around ~30$ cheaper), in your opinion, which of these two would you take if you wish for a that will last you as long as possible?

ZTE Blade 10 stuck in recovery mode

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 06:22 AM PDT

Hi all :) I bought a new smartphone from Amazon (https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B07VKNBLLX/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&th=1) and my battery went empty. When I tried to charge it from there, it is stuck in recovery mode for hours now. I press "reboot system now", the smart phone starts and goes into recovery mode again. However, before it does that, I get the error messages E:/sbin/mount.exfat failed with status 1 and E:/sbin/mount.ntfs failed with status 16.

It is not the best situation to not be reachable right now. Would be rly grateful for any advice.

Edit: Now my whole screen is black, on the lower left corner it is written "FASTBOOT mode..." takes some time already, should I wait?

Chrome on phone stuck in dark mode (and tab groups also returned)

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 06:04 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this should go here, but all the posts I found about this issue were for PCs or Macs and my problem is specifically on my phone - S10e, if it matters.

I had enabled force dark mode for web contents so it would change with my phone's scheduled dark mode. Then chrome finally added that option in settings, as well.

Everything was working fine until a week or two ago and now no matter what I do it's stuck in dark more.

I have wiped the cache in chrome, cleared cache partition on my phone, disabled what I could find in chrome://flags, chrome is set to light mode, and I turned off my scheduled dark mode on my phone. Chrome iis still in dark mode.

In case it's relevant, tab groups have also suddenly returned. I had disabled tab groups, but had kept the grid layout. So far I haven't had any luck fixing that, either. I can't say for sure if these issues happened at the same time, but it seems possible.

How do I restore app data backups on a new phone? Or migrate them?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 04:54 AM PDT

I don't want to login and reconfigure all apps. Google Drive Backup is activated on the old device and 78 apps have been backed up. The new Samsung A52 has no restore. I can't even find the restore on the old Honor. Samsung Smart Switch doesn't copy app data.

App automatically moves to the background without quiting?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 04:47 AM PDT

I'm not sure if this is a question for Android 11 or for my Pixel 4a. Quite often that when I'm using an app on foreground, the apps suddenly just go to background and and the phone is back to my homepage. The app does not quit because everything is still active as long as I just go back to the app from recent app page. This situation happens with every app. And the ideas on why is that and how to solve it? Thank you!

Any Android 12 feedbacks for navigation gestures with custom launchers ?

    Posted: 13 Sep 2021 04:12 AM PDT

As most people know there are some drawdowns with full navigation gestures (side & bottom) on android 11 (Samsung oneUI 3 in my case) and custom launchers (Nova in my case) where bottom up swipes often lags and made the homescreen "blinks" or unresponsive for a short moment.

I was wondering if we know from android 12 beta if these broken behaviors have been fixed ?

How to start at page 1 of the 'all apps menu' | Android 11, One ui 3.1 Samsung A52

What I mean is that, when going to the all apps menu, it remembers where I left previously. I much prefer it always starting from page 1 (as it was on my previous phone) . Is this possible?
