Samsung (instead of Google) fixed Google Assistant reminders not getting transmitted to Wear OS smartwatches for the first time in years, ironically on the watch that doesn't have Google Assistant yet.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 07:23 PM PDT

Back in the dayz setting reminders via Google Assistant on a Android Wear watch was not only an advertised functionality on the watch (listed in the things that you could do with GA on smartwatches) but also actually worked by displaying the reminder on said watch. I used to use that all the time on my original Moto 360.

Suddenly though, reminders only showed on the phone but not on the watch. You could still set them via Google Assistant on the watch, they just wouldn't alert you or at all get displayed on the smart watch.

No reason, no explanation. Some people on this sub thought it was a bug, others assumed that Google decided to disable that functionality for no reason. First workarounds with Tasker surfaced to fix the problem by mirroring the Google Assistant notifications form the phone to the watch, later on apps were developed and published to do the same in a more user friendly way. The whole situation is very similar to how we suddenly can't use GA to send Whatsapp messages or make phone calls... Not announcement or acknowledgment of a bug, those things simply don't work on Wear OS watches for nearly a year now.

    .

Anyway ever since it became known that Samsung's Wear OS using Galaxy Watch 4 series wouldn't use the Wear OS phone app for syncing I was curious if that might fixed whatever issue that app had with just mirroring the still existing phone notification to the watch like it does with all other notifications.

And guess what, it just works! A reminder set from my Google Home speakers just displays and vibrates as a notification on my Galaxy Watch 4 Classic! I can even snooze it for another hour or mark it as done.

Super ironically that the first Wear OS watch w/o Google Assistant (for the time at least) is also the only one that since a few years can actually receive reminder notification.

For the time being though, I will just use Bixby. It's reminders also work on the watch as well as on the phone. It also still can do phone calls btw...

Android have to allow to create isolated contact lists for specific apps. GetContact which accumulates contacts of users, for "Call Identification & Spam Protection", is under pressure to give access to the Russian FSB.

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 05:33 PM PDT

    What happened

The Russian Roskomnadzor is forcing GetContact to give direct access to Russian security agencies to their data. News in russian

GetContact allow users to see possible name of incoming call with obligation that the user share with GetContact own contact list!

The app is extremely popular in Russia and other countries. So GetContact actually have information about social links of all population even if they never installed this app.

So FSB give to app time to grow and now they will have access to connections of every person without Google and Apple.

GetContact already have history of cooperation with Russian Government.

What is GetContact. Are you exposed if you don't use it? :( Yes

During install the app ask you to give access to your contact book. Then the app loads numbers and how you named it to their database. There their service create list of names for every number.

So if you saved person with number +1234567 under name "Alex Craigslist bed". When other person which will get a call from +1234567 will know that this person is Alex and sometime he sold a bed on Craigslist. Not for public but it have links between all numbers in their db. If your friend A and B have this app then Officers will know that they are your contacts. They also will know who are you to them from how they named your number! It how Bellingcat found suspected FSB officers who poisoned Navalny. Numbers from leaked flight registration had in list names as "Stanislav FSB" and "Vladimir FSB" which later were connected to FSB members who works in FSB labaratory in Podlipki.Probably FSB also will want to clean GetContact databases after their fail with poisoning of Navalny.

What could Android do (and Apple)

If Android would allow to create personalized list of contacts for every app it would fix many issues with voluntary leaking.

It also would help in case when user for first time download messenger and the user is not available to send messages without give the permission to the contact book. In this case app can send to all your contact annoying messages "Hey, I use this app".

    What possible to do now

If you use Signal or Telegram, never share your number but share name of your user instead.I would like to hear an advice from you

I noticed something... on Play Store

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 04:28 PM PDT

Is Google getting rid some of application reviews on Play Store? I always visit on the app store, and checking my apps if there are some updates.

Recently, I saw some of my installed apps' reviews like DuckDuckGo. It went from million reviews to just thousands. You might check it and see for yourself.

Chrome used to have over 20M reviews.

Wishlist for Android and Core Google Apps

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 08:41 AM PDT

(Google apps because they are commonly built in with the OS and shipped on phones).

    • Google Photos - Spot Healing Tool. Surprised this isn't a thing yet! Remove acne, background people, etc. (Like Photoshop)

    • Pixel Launcher Notification Badges numbers or some sort of update here

    • Share Menu revamp - Terribly slow and janky. iOS is way more useful and fast when loading. And there are like 8 different varieties. UGHH

    • Dedicated Weather App

    • Google Photos Vault to be cloud based with passcode (not local, or atleast option)

    • Color Pop live view from camera (Maybe down the line with their new chips)

    • Emoji Kitchen (ones where Google combines emojis) - I wish they were smaller. They send HUGE. Half size would still be perfect!

    • Entire keyboard acts as cursor like iOS. Currently just the space bar, its too tiny, should just copy and expand like iOS

    • Additional font size options, going from 4 to 6 would be nice.

    • Fix Gesture Bar on apps - so many have background still - even google apps

    • Android Twelve More Color Choices to choose from vs 4 (ATM)

    Thoughts?

Battery's at 100% for long times is bad I fixed that S21 (Bixby routines)

    Posted: 02 Sep 2021 03:18 PM PDT

So we all know that battery's wear out over time, that lifetime can be decreased if battery's stay on the charger at 100% so I figured out a way to fix that, those images are what I did with Bixby routines on my s21 (idk if it works on other phones) so you can't for some reason tell the phone to turn of fast charging if it gets to a certain % but you can use the percent to for ex. Turn off or on dark mode with a certain % battery then do another one that turns off fast charging when dark mode is off or on (there are probably other ways to do this exact thing but I found this to be the easiest) make sure to click the link because reddit is only showing 1 of 2 images

I hope this is useful to someone
