Android TV Choosing Homatics Box Q over KM6

Choosing Homatics Box Q over KM6

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 01:32 AM PDT

Received both the KM6 Deluxe and Homatics Box Q on the same day, and after testing both out I decided to keep the Box Q despite its much lower specs.

The techie part of me still feels like this is a dumb decision, but ultimately the Box Q has enough for my use cases (4K Netflix/Prime Video/Disney+ and Steam Link), and seems more well-built on both the hardware and software sides.

Here's some of my observations after testing both boxes for a couple of hours:

    • Box Q comes with almost no pre-installed bloatware, so that's great. KM6 on the other hand has a whole bunch of apps that can't be uninstalled.

    • The Box Q remote can detect your TV brand and turn on/off the TV as well (it also seems to automatically switch to the right HDMI source as well), so that's a bonus.

    • KM6 had a random hardware scare one time when its ethernet port refused to work after I turned it on, I thought the port was busted but after power cycling the box it started working again. For this to happen on the first day of usage really makes me wonder about the build quality.

    • When the KM6 had no connection because of the above, it also left the screen black, and I thought it bricked. It only started working again after I turned it off and on at the mains to get ethernet connectivity back.

    • The Netflix mods for KM6 only get you 1080p, not 4K. No idea why though.

    • My KM6 came with the updated firmware with the HDR fix.

    • Because Netflix isn't officially supported on KM6, it doesn't show up as a recommendations row even if you have the modded apk installed.

    • Because it's not Netflix certified, the KM6 remote has no Netflix button as well. I don't quite like the position of the Google voice assistant button on it too.

    • The KM6 definitely feels snappier when opening apps (e.g. those times when the streaming app must load a whole lot of thumbnails), but beyond that both boxes feel equally smooth.

    • The ethernet port on the Box Q is meaningless, it's much slower than 5GHz Wi-Fi. Still, on Wi-Fi it can stream shows at 4K and Steam Link at 2K (limited by my PC's monitor) without issue.

    • The KM6 ethernet port is a little badly designed, it's really, really hard to pull out the LAN cable once it's in. Not that anyone expects to do that often, but still. Could be just my unit being badly assembled though.

    • Framerate matching on the KM6 causes the screen to blank out for a second or so whenever you play or exit a video, not sure if it's just what happens when it's turned on cause I've never used this feature before.

Homatics Box Q is actually from SEI Robotics, some China Android TV ODM. But despite also ultimately being a "China box", it seems much more polished. So... between the dodgy ethernet port and the weird black screen thing and Netflix mod not having 4K on the KM6 Deluxe, I decided that I much prefer the reliability of the Homatics Box Q.

    Hope I don't regret this!

    Sh*t - Sharp TV

    Posted: 13 Aug 2021 03:07 AM PDT

Hey, i bought a year ago TV Sharp - 50BL5EA. After two weeks bugs appeared under the screen... After a month, he returned from the warranty with removed bugs, okey. Less than a year has passed, the problem has reappeared... and TV back to me yesterday.

Another problem is sound. The sound quality is absolutely good but software bugs ahhh... If it doesn't work for a long time, sound fades away, only need to put off DTS and Put on again, and its okay...

Another problem :))) Is sh*t support from Sharp, my last update - April 2021, Android Version - 9

    Mibox 3 Remote working erratically

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 01:28 PM PDT

    Hello Everyone,

I have mibox 3 (Android 9) and since last week it's remote has started working erratically.

    It randomly stops working,

sometimes if I press some button it takes forever to respond &

sometimes it keeps reacting as if that button was pressed for a long time despite being pressed only once.

    I have tried:

Android TV remote App, Different new Xiaomi remote

    but the results are same.

Is this related to some new upgrade? Has anyone else faced this issue recently too?

I have tried factory reset, new batteries, different remote & Android TV app for mobile. Nothing has helped me yet.

    Nvidia Shield Caption Position

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 08:48 PM PDT

Is there any way to force captions to always overlay the video or to move the captions on the screen? I have a 21:9 display and captions are cut off whenever I watch 21:9 content.

Amologic TX5 Pro (Android 8.1) stuck in Recovery mode

Amologic TX5 Pro (Android 8.1) stuck in Recovery mode

    Hello folks,

so my Amologic TX5 Pro (S905X CPU) on Android 8.1 is stuck on android recovery mode.

Everytime you reboot the box, it automatically boots into recovery mode for whatever reason. If you plug it out completely (remove the power supply) and leave it for like 12+ hours, there is a slim chance of the OS actually booting and working completely fine until you reboot again. If you manage to boot it up, it works just fine (note: it happens only after power loss/reboot, but sleep mode doesn't create that issue). Also, there are no buttons on the box, so some gets stuck and activates recovery mode like on a phone (nor is the remote stuck on pressing a button thus activating it).

I managed to boot it up, created a backup and deleted everything by using the factory reset setting in recovery mode.

This issue started happening suddenly, also the factory reset didn't help at all...

Any help would be great, thanks in advance!

Can no longer access any HDMI inputs. Suggestions please?

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 04:41 PM PDT

So I got my new Panasonic TV a few days ago and up until an hour ago it was fine. But now I can't access any other inputs; when I select them the screen flashes black for half a second and then it just shows the home screen. I've tried rebooting, unplugging the TV, changing settings but I can't fix it and I don't know what to do.

    Please help :(

Default launcher on Android TV via ADB problem

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 03:06 PM PDT

After setting the new GoogleTV Launcher as default via ADB using the command

adb shell cmd package set-home-activity "com.google.android.apps.tv.launcherx"

on my Android TV Box, checking the default launcher (always via ADB) using two different methods the shell returns a mismatching result as you can see below, and in practice the manufacturer's own launcher (timvision.launcher) always opens as default. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

    GamePad on Mi Box S

    Posted: 12 Aug 2021 02:32 PM PDT

    Hi,

I have just bought a Xiaomi Mi Box S witch is the first Andoid TV I have tried besides chromecast.

So fare I am happy with the box, and all the apps, and streaming services are working.

I have now bought a Gioteck VX4 wireless GamePad. But I cannot for the love of me get it to connect.

Since it is a PS4 compatible controller I cannot see why it should not work, but cannot find any documentation on this controller and my specific Mi Box S.

    Any suggestions is appreciated.
