    Does storage space affect performance?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:47 AM PDT

If storage space is almost full, does it slow down the performance of the phone (lagging, etc)? Or is it just a myth?

Everytime I update my apps through the Google Play Store, I am losing around 2-3gb of memory with no way to recover the lost space. What can I do?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 12:33 PM PDT

Tried clearing cache but this does not solve the issue.

I believe Google Play actually makes duplicates without clearing them.

The same happens when you make a system update, it keeps stacking backups and hogs more and more space until you have nothing left and you need to do a factory reset.

Problem is solved until you run updates of apps (or firmware) again.

I have disabled my phone's update which helped a lot.

Now how to I prevent the app store from eating up my phone storage after each apps update?

NB: this is a problem that happens on my Samsung a40 only. And it occurs again and again after factory resets, which I am forced to do after every 3-4 months because I'm running out if space without adding news apps, and while still clearing cache every week.

My note 10+ does not have this problem and does release the memory space it has used right after updates finish.

    How does multiple user works?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:29 AM PDT

Hi, I just have one question related to multiple user feature on android device (OnePlus 6).

English is not my mother tongue so it might not be fluent enough and sorry for that in advance.

My google account was registered on my boyfriend's phone which is One Plus 6. He has lots of google accounts on his phone fyi. One day, I checked my Google history and it showed me apps that I have never used. It said it was used on android device model which is exactly the one he uses. I am using iPhone. I asked him and he said he also does not know and he sent me screen recording showing me he has no account for those apps or google play history. He told me later that he found out why and it was because on his phone, he can use two users like windows pc. I guess this means "multiple users feature". Everything is separated. Another user he had from the past was on active on his phone and those apps. He told me he could see there were those apps downloaded on that another user.

I have no idea how multiple user feature works so I am confused.

Can someone tell me how things work on android device?

Uploading Files to third party Android device

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 11:07 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm currently working on a project for my employer, in which we wish to display things on custom, touch screen monitors. They're about 22.5in long by 2in high, weird dimensions, I know. Anyways, in my trouble-shooting I tried a factory reset which took away some of the features our manufacturer put on there for us, which we need. It also seems to have reset the print size which has made the monitor impossible to navigate. Our manufacturer has sent us over a folder which contains a batch file that is supposed to correct the mistakes caused by the factory reset. However, I'm having a lot of trouble getting my lenovo laptop to detect the monitor. I currently have the monitor plugged into the laptop via USB to micro-USB(the microUSB is plugged into the monitor, though a USB-C is what powers the monitor through a typical wall outlet). I have tried basic things like restarting computer, trying a new chord, restarting monitor. I know my best bet is to get in contact with our manufacturer for more help, however we live on opposite sides of the world and have a slight language barrier which makes it difficult to communicate. If anyone has any ideas, or wants to know more I'd be happy to share and take any advice. Thank you all so much.

Edit: By third-party Android Device, I mean a small company created the monitor for me and installed the android onto it, not one of the major brands like Samsung, LG, etc. Sorry I'm a bit new to using Android devices.

My new phone is set to English but still shows Taiwan language here and there

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 11:02 AM PDT

I bought a Galaxy S10E but not from an official importer. I live in israel and I set my phone to be in english (United states style). I wish I could attach screen shots, there are all kinds of places where the text is in Taiwanese (or Thai or Korean). For example, the description for an app in the galaxy store. Or some website. All kinds of little weird quirks.

S9+ & Google Pay: "Account action required to use Google Pay"

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:58 AM PDT

Trying to install Google Pay on my S9+ and getting an error when I launch it:

"Account action required to use Google Pay

Check your device notifications for more info"

But there are no notifications, my account is fine, logging in from the desktop has no issues. This is a tremendous pain in the ass now because ticketmaster doesn't allow you to screenshot tickets any more, only save them to Google Pay, and now Google Pay doesn't wanna work and googling I seem to be the second person in the history of the world with this problem.

I opened a support ticket with Google and they were (unsurprisingly) completely and utterly unhelpful. After 48 hours the best they could do is tell me to try uninstalling and reinstalling the app again and clearing the cache.

None of my apps seem to be working

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:53 AM PDT

    Hey everyone,

My phone seems to have this issue where all of my apps just stop loading. I'll try to open Instagram to check my messages but my feed will not load. If I open YouTube or Google I get an error message. If I open the Google Play store it immediately crashes. I get this problem like once every 3 weeks and it'll last for hours at a time. Anyone know what's going on and how I can fix it?

Is there a way to disable heads-up notifications in Android 11 without completely disabling all notifications? I want the notifications to show in the status bar but not in my field of view.

Bot trolls using phone calls to produce high-pitch screeching noises?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:18 AM PDT

It happened to me twice already, idk if it's a new strategy used to discourage the use of blockers but if i respond to the call the output is a screeching noise that will probably give you ear damage if you set your volume too high.

Samsung Note 9 screen suddenly started flickering

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 10:12 AM PDT

I hope this is the right sub, but I need help. My Samsung Note 9 suddenly started flickering. I tried:

    • Rebooting in Safe Mode
    • Updating all apps on the Playstore
    • Hard Reset
    • Wipe Cache
    • Disabling HW overlays
    • Disabling Developer Options
    • Turning the screen super bright
    • Using OLED saver app

I tried the first four multiple times with no success.

The only things I haven't tried are factory reset and taking it to a service center. I'm avoiding both, but if they're the only solutions left, well I'll drop by the nearest mall this Sunday.

    More info:

I haven't downloaded anything outside the playstore and I keep the number of apps as close to the bare minimum, erasing apps I don't use frequently.

    About the phone:

Bought it November 10 2018 (so I guess maybe it's too old?)

128 GB. I bought this in the Philippines, so the chip is Exynos

    When it started to happen:

About 12 hours ago, especially when charging. Charging seems to make the lines more visible or appear more frequent. If it's hardware, I'm thinking it's related to battery heat since the lines aren't as annoying when it's not charging, but maybe you can help me.

These are three videos to show what I mean. Not sure if the camera caught them properly, so kindly view in 0.5x if necessary.

    Three

    Google Maps problems

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:38 AM PDT

    Hi everyone!

In the last 5 months I've been having problems with Google maps.

I'm connected to the internet and every other app is working perfectly, except these two.

The maps won't show traffic or places names. If it does, it won't show additional information when I try to expand it to see the working hours or number or reviews ...etc. and if I choose to navigate to that place, it would keep trying to "find the best route" and wouldn't change or show a route.

I am on the latest update on my Samsung Galaxy S10 Plus. And all my apps are updated "including Google Maps"

The only solution that I found for the maps is to clear the cache and force stop it. After that, it will work on the first launch. But if I close and open it again. The same problem would happen again.

This happens on both WiFi and data.

    Any help?

    Thanks!

IMDB app getting upgraded automatically despite "auto update" turned off for app

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 01:38 AM PDT

New IMDB app is garbage often being irresponsive for best of the times and crashing other times.

I have tried multiple time to go back to using older versions of IMDB app but any sideloaded version gets updated to latest one despite the fact I have disabled "auto update" from play store for the app.

Any idea how could I stop this from happening? Next best option is using it from browser which gives really bad user experience.

Suddenly poor battery life on XZ1

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 09:07 AM PDT

    I have a Sony Xperia XZ1 running Android 9.

Over the last few days my battery life has absolutely tanked, as well as taking longer to charge. I haven't installed any new apps in this time, in fact I removed a few that I wasn't using.

I have tried force closing everything, restarting, checking for high-drain applications, all to no avail. Anybody have any tips to figure out what's wrong?

Using a Miracast device, is there an equivalent of the Dex software (full screen layout like in desktop rather than just replicating screen)?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:53 AM PDT

Samsung Dex works great on the Note 10+, but I have another Samsung phone (a40) that can't use Dex. So I am using a Miracast device.

But I am missing the desktop experience of the Dex because it merely replicates the screen.

Is there a good TTS engine for android?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 08:37 AM PDT

I have recently switched to the new Here Maps app, and it doesn't come with built in voices anymore. The pre-installed Google Voice engine is honestly one of the worst sounding text to speech generators I have heard in the last ten years.

Is there A TTS engine for android that comes at least close to the sound quality Here Maps or Windows' Cortana used to deliver?

Ideally free, but I would be willing to pay if I can test the engine before

How can I copy settings and phone set up to multiple devices?

    Posted: 29 Jul 2021 07:14 AM PDT

    Hey,

So I work for a company that sets up a lot of phones that we give to our service providers across the UK. Do do this, we have to set up the phone every time. This requires the settings to be adjusted in a particular way for each device, eg auto update disabled, data saver on, allowing our app to work fully with data saver (you get the picture).

This is quite time consuming, especially if were are sending out multiple a week and are only a small team of 5-6. I was wondering if reddit had a solution for this, where I could record settings for one device and then have them be transferable to future devices with a few clicks.

We do sign in to the same google account each time on the android device, all of which are the same (Samsung Galaxy A3) - I don't know if this information is helpful at all

Thanks in advance for any advice
