Will clicking a malicious link in email inbox install spyware on android phone? When I say click, I literally mean just clicking.

    Posted: 17 May 2021 10:57 AM PDT

Lets say I received an email with a malicious link. If i click on that link, will spyware (in this case lets say a key logger) be installed on my android phone? Can spyware be installed just by clicking a link? Can clicking a link in email immediately start a download or do you have to accept the download? Can clicking a link on a website download and install spyware?

One of my contacts is showing up in "Messages" settings as his own menu?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 08:36 AM PDT

I use the default Messages app, and for some reason, one of my contacts is not playing the notification sound my messages app is supposed to. Every other text I get from anyone plays the proper sound.

    So I went into messages > 3 dots > Settings > Notifications

In here, I would normally see just "Incoming Notifications" where I can tap to make the desired adjustments. However, under "Incoming Notifications" I now also see "Firstname Lastname" and I can set his individual notification sound.

Now, I can go into his and make sure it matches what I want messages to play, but I'm not sure why he's his own menu in my settings, how can I add/remove people from this "Default Settings" section? I have the option to toggle his off, but I'm assuming then I just won't get any notifications from this person's texts at all. Meanwhile I do have a couple folks that I'd actually like to have separate notification sounds, but I can't seem to find where to add the people I want, and remove the people I don't.

Not sure if this matters -- but initially his texts were doing that bubble thing like Facebook Messenger used to, which I did not care for. So I was able to turn that off, but he was showing up under "Conversations" which I tapped "Not a conversation" because I wasn't sure if that might be why that was coming up, and it moved him into the area of the menu I mentioned above. I can tap "This is a Conversation" and it puts him back up there with the bubble settings but still no way to remove him as his own settings menu.. this hasn't happened with anyone else and I can't figure it out.

    Pixel 5 if that matters.

App or method to help organize my home screens for productivity?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 09:54 AM PDT

All my important apps are on my first home screen. However, I'd like to put widgets on my home screen and then all my important apps on the next screen over. Or maybe widgets on the first two screens, and then apps to the right of that. Or maybe some other configuration in the future.

Currently, it would be a royal PITA to move everything over. Is there some way to easily insert home screens? Or maybe have different configurations of home screens so I can have a standard work related home screen, play related home screen, etc.

I really want to be able to quickly look at things like calendar, inbox, to do this list using widgets, but also be able to quickly find recent apps or common apps to kick them off, and it's an open ended process to organize these kinds of things so it needs to be easy to manage the configurations.

How to explicitly check for virus and Spyware on Android?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 09:50 AM PDT

I have a galaxy s10+ with android 11 and I was just curious on how to scan for Spyware and viruses and such just in case I browse some websites that I find suspicious or something just to be safe.

I know apps on the play store even by reputable PC companies like malwarebytes are bunk right? So what can I do?

Thank you very much for your time.

I am not sure how to safely unroot my samsung galaxy s9 without losing my data (trying to avoid factory reset)

    Posted: 17 May 2021 03:44 AM PDT

I rooted my samsung galaxy s9 a couple of years ago, but now find my banking apps won't work because they detect my phone is rooted.

Is there any way to reverse this process safely, i.e. unroot my samsung galaxy s9 without losing my data.

I would like to avoid factory reset for several reasons, including I won't be able to reinstall dropbox due to new rules which limits install to only 3 devices.

I have tried a couple of aps including 'Universal Root' but didn't work. I also read others have not worked on properly.

Any advice would be much appreciated.

    Stuck on Unlock Pattern

    Posted: 17 May 2021 01:31 AM PDT

    Hi all,

I'm hoping someone may have a solution to my issues. For an unknown reason yesterday my phone rebooted on its own and then I attempted to unlock my device it failed to do anything. It will accept my unlock pattern and then immediately show a black screen. I do have a fingerprint sensor by that does not work at reboot until I've submitted the unlock pattern.

I am using a Premio Axe with Android Go. I've had this device for about 6 months now. I've never seen such an issue as this but with some research I'd found it's a common issue as far back as 2017 either related to the a software update or some bug.

I'm reluctant to factory reset my device as I'm uncertain if I'll lose something, I do not have an sd card in my device so do not want to lose some small data that might exist on my device that isn't backedup.

I'm not sure if anyone might have experienced such an issue and found a solution that might be a universal fix (I've seen some Pixel related fixes that haven't worked for me).

Note: I do not have a google recovery option on my unlock screen.

Microsoft Teams not showing notifications consistently

    Posted: 17 May 2021 01:25 AM PDT

I had A21s for some months.I was not able to receive microsoft teams notification properly.Since it was too slow (single score of 140), I had to change with Redmi note 7 pro , the phone I initially exchanged due to lot of bugs.lol

Teams is now working fine with Redmi. Is it the problem for all Samsung's?

Has the teams caused the problems because of ancient processor of A21s or oneUi?.

I am planning to get a phone after this pandemic, maybe pixel 5a or equivalent samsung or maybe SE, if battery of new SE won't bottleneck or if no good android comes out like S20fe 5g.

Scheduled message stuck in Google Messages

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:44 AM PDT

I scheduled a message to be sent to my wife and it looks like it never sent. It now shows "Scheduled message" on the Google Messages main screen next to her face and below the last message sent to her. When I go to look for it in the conversation I can't find it (to hopefully cancel it) but it is nowhere to be found. It's been stuck there for about a week now. Has anyone else experienced this and, if so, how is this fixable? I am on a Pixel 4a and I'm using Google Messages version 8.0.054

My Google Maps including apps aren't working properly anymore, is that a greater problem or judt me?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:42 AM PDT

So I have at least two apps showing maps from Google Maps, namely WhatsApp (share location) and Adidas Running. Since about a week both apps don't show any map but an empty grid. Maps itself workes fine. Since I wasn't able to fix it (reinstalling Maps, deleting app cache etc) I wonder if anyone else is affected or knows how to solve it.

    Thank you!

How to backup a single app's data

    Posted: 17 May 2021 02:26 AM PDT

Edit: Not possible without root as backup apps can't reach other app's data.

    Hello,

I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 (Up-to-date) and by now I'm low on onternal storage. I have a few apps I don't use anymore but I want to keep their data. Now I wanted to back some app data up to my SD card but I had to notice smart switch won't do that. When I make a new backup with these app's data only I'd overwrite my full backup I want to keep too. So how can I create an independent backup of some app's data I can move to SD card and restore later if I decide to reinstall the app? Thanks!

How is spyware installed on an Android phone?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:09 AM PDT

Are spyware and stalkerware the same? Or are only spy apps referred to as stalkerware? Can spyware on an android phone only be installed through a spyapp or can it be downloaded through the internet? How is keylogger installed? Lets say someone has physical access to your android phone, how can that person download and install spyware on your android phone? Does the bad guy just have to do a simple google search and download something through the internet or is it more complex than that? Does allow download from unknown sources have to be enabled in order for a bad guy to download something from a web browser? Can someone create their own keylogger and upload it to google and download it through their own site or are keyloggers paid for?

How can I connect my Nintendo Switch to my Oppo Find X2 Pro?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:08 AM PDT

The standard connection types for the switchs WiFi are WEP, WPA-PSK(AES), WPA2-PSK (AES) but when I set up a WiFi tether from my oppo, it wont allow any of those I can only set up WPA2 PSK or WPA3 PSK. Obviously I dont want an open connection to my device. Can anyone advise of 3rd party apps that will work, I have already tried PDAnet+ and the switch cant find the connection when searching

Implementing real-time updates in chat app

    Posted: 17 May 2021 11:01 AM PDT

    Hi guys

After researching a bit on implementing real-time updates using an external chat API, we found this article: Real-Time updates in your chat app using Pub-Sub - Applozic Blog

However, it seems to use the Pub-Sub model for these updates, which we're unfamiliar of.

Is the implementation given in the article suitable for an app with ~10K users?

How to setup SD card? (S9)

    Posted: 17 May 2021 09:38 AM PDT

So have been running low on space and decided to pick up a sd card. Been awhile since I put one in but I swear I remember it giving the option to basically put all new stuff you do onto the card. From what I can tell it wants me to manually move everything over which is just a pain. Is there anything I can do? Thanks

    LG Tablet locked

    Posted: 17 May 2021 01:58 AM PDT

edit: "Lenovo Tablet Locked" - I'm a novice, didn't know I couldn't edit my title, but please note it's a lenovo tablet I'm seeking assistance for.

    Hi,

Maybe you might also be able to help me with a second device that I've pretty much given up on. I have a lenovo s5000-h tablet which ended up becoming "corrupted" after leaving it to download youtube videos overnight. This is something I hadn't done on the device in several months but literally the morning after performing these downloads the device seemed to have a system failure which resulted in me not being able to delete, reset or factory reset the device.

Once the device is rebooted it will momentarily let me open apps but within seconds each app will have a crash message "**** app is not working", even settings crashes, all my settings, wifi and screen brightness are stuck to their last settings.

My brother suggested flashing the device but once the Android Flash tool does it's job no changes have taken place, not setting are different, all apps and placements are all stuck to that day.

I'm looking to find out if anyone might have a solution to this problem, a way to wipe the device or something because it's a good tablet and was in excellent condition before this software problem.

It is also out of warranty btw and I'd like to avoid paying someone to fix it as they may charge me as much as the device is worth.

I'm also new to attempting to resolve my own Android software related issues and so am not sure on limitations or specific tools available to resolve my issues. I found that googling usually produced something similar to my problem but each solution I'd found hasn't solved my issue.

    Android 8 ps4 Controller issue

    Posted: 17 May 2021 07:52 AM PDT

I use a Huawei mate 10 lite running android 8 and I wanted to play games on it using my dualshock 4 v2 controller. When I try to pair the controller it doesn't work half the time and when it works all the buttons are mapped wrong (right stick for r2, l2 and X fo ciclre for example). I can't update nor root my phone so I was hoping there was a solution that doesn't require any of that. I hope that you can help me, but thank you for your time anyway.

    Phone upgrade advice

    Posted: 16 May 2021 04:14 PM PDT

I'm looking at both the Samsung s20 and note 9 as a possible upgrade from my moto Z2 force. I figure both would be a performance upgrade so my only real requirement is the camera (front and back) quality. I've read a few iffy reviews on the s20 but the camera would obviously be better than the note 9. So I suppose my question would be is the quality upgrade worth the price difference? Also any personal insight on issues with either phone or another suggestion. Verizon prepaid USA

Efficient and Safe App Lock for Samsung S9 Plus?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 05:36 AM PDT

The S Secure app is not supported on S9 Plus for some reason. I tried a couple of app locks from the play store and they're just inefficient and annoying. But there are a lot of app locks, I'm sure there must be at least one good app.

Please recommend what app lock has worked for you!

    Reliably uninstall multiple apps?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 05:34 AM PDT

it seems like everyday I'm reading about some batch of apps that have been removed from the Play store because they updated and included some form of malware or identity compromising hacks. To mitigate this for myself, I want to uninstall a large number of apps that I've used or tinkered with once or twice and just never removed.

I seem to remember years ago Android had the ability to uninstall multiple apps in one go. Like you could go down the list and check them and then hit uninstall and it would uninstall all of the apps you checked. That doesn't seem to exist anymore. I tried searching for this and keep seeing recommendations to install third-party apps to do this.

Are there any suggestions on either:

    A) how to restore this functionality in Android or B) an app (preferably from a trusted developer) that will properly remove apps without leaving remnants behind?

Headphones sound weak and thin on phone except through DAC, what can I do?

    Posted: 17 May 2021 05:20 AM PDT

So to clarify, when I use my Pixel USB C to 3.5mm adapter, or when I use my Taotronics Bluetooth receiver, my earbuds (KZ ZSX and BLON BL03, and my Hyper X Cloud Alpha) all sound.. thin. ALL of them are easy-to-drive headphones that don't require an amp, and they certainly go plenty loud. Problem is, they sound extremely bass-light, overly sharp, thin, and sibilant. EQ hardly makes a reasonable difference.

Plugged my Sound Blaster X G6 into my phone with a USB C to USB A adapter, it powered on and for some reason, the output volume was pretty low even at maximum gain (this thing should be capable of frying these earbuds) - BUT the sound quality was worlds better; they literally sound like different earphones. The bass went from thin and nearly non-existent to extremely warm sounding, but requires a chunky setup and volume is strangely super limited.

This tells me that audio isn't inherently nuked on my phone as a whole, but for some reason my current audio solutions suck. Could anyone give me a hand with this one please and thank you? 😊
