| Samsung's blue light filter "Eye Comfort Shield" is HORRIBLE on non-AMOLED devices. Posted: 19 Apr 2021 12:08 PM PDT (Weirdly, this post was not approved on /r/samsung, so posting here) So I just received a Galaxy Tab S6 Lite and was very disappointed to find out how horrible Samsung's own blue light filter works on it. I use it on my AMOLED phone (s10e) and it works like a charm, but on the tablet it destroys the entire image quality. This is a huge problem, as it is something that cannot be solved by other apps, since the functionality to do this properly and system wide requires root access. The Eye Comfort Shield changes blacks to a muddy brownish color, which heavily decreases the contrast of the screen and makes it less readable. Here are two pictures to show what I'm talking about. No blue light filter, iPad Air 1 reference Blue light filter, iPad Air 1 reference Aside from Samsung's blue light filter not nearly being as strong as Apple's, it also completly fails to adjust the colors properly. The colors that are supposed to be black are now a washed out brown which makes image and text extremely ugly and less readable. I really don't understand how Samsung dropped the ball so hard here. Maybe they only tested their Eye Comfort Shield on AMOLED devices? This can't possibly be what they had in mind. There are countless Android apps that have built in blue light filters for their own content (Opera Browser, various PDF readers) and they work properly, leaving the blacks black. However it's still only a bandaid for the problem if the system wide blue light filter doesn't work correctly. If there is no way to resolve this it will probably be reason enough for me to return this tablet, even though I like everything else about it. Hope somebody can help me out here or knows what's going on. [link] [comments] | ||

| Personal Review: Redmit Note 10 Pro - Xiaomis Pocket Knife for small money Posted: 19 Apr 2021 11:00 AM PDT Hi Community, coming from a Redmi 4 Pro (yes it worked for 4,5 years). I bought the Note 10 Pro some days ago and wanted to share my experience: What I like
What I don´t like
Overall The unique selling point of this smartphone is that it has many features for a midrange price. I would call it the pocket knife of xiaomi smartphones because its so versatile. But of course it lacks some flagship feautures: no OIS, no first class camera or ultra good tele lens, only midrange standard CPU and GPU power and of course no wireless charging or full waterproofness. The Redmi Note 10 Pro is a big display phone for a cheap price with a lot of functions. Cameras could be even better and you get more processing speed with similiar priced smartphones, but they certainly will lack in a lot of other things the Note 10 Pro has to offer. The Redmi Note 10 Pro is reasonable allround smartphone for daily use regarding producitivy and entertainment, with a great 120 hz AMOLED and the possibility to use huge micro sd cards. The price is very good and the feature list is long, making it a purchase which is hard to regret. If you dont need many of these features, like the AMOLED display or the micro sd slot, there are other good options. But as a package the Redemi Note 10 Pro is hard to beat. Alternative Devices
Disclaimer: Nobody paid me for this review and I had to pay the full price for the smartphone. I just wrote this to share my experience :) [link] [comments]

| The RedMagic 6 Series was announced for the US, but who is this really for? Posted: 18 Apr 2021 09:22 PM PDT I saw on AndroidPolice (as a sponsored post, which says a lot about who they allow to be their sponsors) that the RedMagic 6 Series was announced as something of a "flagship killer". Intrigued, I took a look at RedMagic's website. Now I'll admit, up until now I had never heard of RedMagic, so my first thought when I saw this was "Oh great, another neat looking Android phone that won't be available in the US." Until I saw their website listing it for the US market. Okay, cool. The specs on that series are definitely nothing to sneeze at. What's the catch? What networks do they support? Y'all. https://na.redmagic.gg/pages/redmagic-6-pro-specs
So, no full support for T-Mobile (no B71/n71, no B25 or B26), no full support for Verizon (no B13 or n5), and no full support for AT&T (No B14, B30, or n5). So if this phone series really is being sold in the US, who the heck is it for? Was 4G/5G certification for those bands really that hard to acquire? I mean, c'mon. This phone series has a snowball's chance in a volcano of achieving certification of working on those networks. And if they can't do that, then these phones are basically DOA. What the heck, RedMagic? What's the point? Who's gonna buy these? I noticed that AndroidPolice disabled comments on their post too, so I couldn't bring this up with them. Perhaps they're aware and didn't want the backlash? Sponsor money keeping them quiet? [link] [comments]
