Can anyone who is using both the platforms share your views on universal search? Which device does a better job at searching content across all apps?

    useless mi box s

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 04:10 AM PST

Accidentally entered to the restricted user. we forgot the pin! so can't go back!

so tried to reset factory the device!

but with a false help to use home + menu keys to enter the recovery mode! now remote is unpaired from the mi box s and can't pair it again!

so I can't exit restricted user, can't reset factory the device, and can't use the box anymore! I have a USB mouse and key. have a google account on the device. tried every pin I remember. tried iMyFone Lockwiper with a male-to-male USB-A connector, but nothing works...

I thought it has a reset factory hardware button at the beginning, but disappointed...

Xiaomi Mi TV 4A randomly wakes from sleep

    Posted: 12 Mar 2021 03:53 AM PST

    Hey!

Have a Xiaomi Mi TV 4A (32'') and it has this annoying issue of randomly waking up from sleep mode.

If you set it to sleep, either with 1 click on the power button of the remote, or sleep timer, it ends up waking after some (random amount) time.

Need to shut it down every time to prevent this from happening

Anyone with some sort of fix for this?

Already tried factory resting it, and got same results...

Poor 4K YouTube on Chromecast with Android TV

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 03:26 PM PST

Just picked up a new Chromecast, YouTube is jerky when I set to 4K resolution. All videos, all resolutions. Totally fine in 1080p but I don't want to have to keep switching back and forth just to watch YouTube!

For comparison, all other apps work just fine, the issue is only on YouTube. Plugged my Chromecast Ultra back in to confirm and no issues there.

Anyone else seen this and had any success fixing it?

Chromecast with Google TV Youtube 'This video is restricted' message?

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 12:35 PM PST

When I try to play some videos through the Youtube app or cast that video to the Chromecast with Google TV I get this message:

I can play the same video on my phone which is on the same wifi network and I can also cast that same video successfully to the TV that the Chromecast with Google TV Youtube is connected to but using the Chromecast built into the TV that's on the same wifi network. So it would seem to be specific to using Chromecast with Google TV Youtube. I then went into the YouTube setting on the Chromecast with Google TV Youtube and verified that Restricted mode was not turned on:

    Thinking of upgrading Android Box

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 02:47 PM PST

I've been running a rooted Android box the past couple of years and it's been fine. I know some people live those nvidia shields but are they that much better than a rooted gig Android box? What are some of the true differences?

    detect standby

    Posted: 11 Mar 2021 12:04 PM PST

    Hi,

I use my tv occasionally as a second monitor and would like to detect from my (linux) PC if my TV is turned on so that I can configure the displays automatically.

The problem I face is that xrandr still reports my TV as "connected" even when it is in standby and does not actually display anything.

Is there any workaround (either on the linux-side or by installing some app on the tv) to detect when a TV is actually displaying anything or is either completely turned off or in standby?

    Many thanks!
