My dad's phone is on some accessibility setting and he doesn't know how to turn it off Posted: 27 Jan 2021 05:41 AM PST Hey, yeah, as the title says, my dads got some accessibility thing on his phone and can't disable it. Sorry if this is not allowed, I just don't know how to fix it and I am out of town; away from him. Any ideas? He says it won't let him scroll down in settings. Heres a video my sister took of it: https://youtu.be/wF318UPrcDc [link] [comments] |
Chrome says I have 13 gb of cached data from a single website. Should I try clearing it? Posted: 26 Jan 2021 11:04 PM PST Using Pixel 4, Android 11 My problem is with Chrome. It takes up about 3 gb in my phone and just keeps increasing no matter what I do. I don't even have many bookmarks, tabs, etc. I decided to look at the data stored in Chrome and it says that one website is taking up 13 gb. Another is 7.3 gb, and there are about six more websites that hit around 1 gb each. I understand this number might be inflated somehow but I have no idea how this is even possible, where that data is located on my phone, or what will happen if I try to clear it. (I don't usually go deep into my phone's settings) My question is whether it's ok to use the "clear & reset" button, or if that might make the problem even worse in the future. Hope somebody smarter can help me. Thanks in advance [link] [comments] |
How to keep the Navigation bar visible in fullscreen apps? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:29 AM PST Hi, I'm looking for an app or a way to keep the Android navigation bar visible all the time, even when using fullscreen apps like Youtube (where it auto hides the nav bar and you have to swipe to get it to pop up). I'm on a Samsung Galaxy Note 20 with Android 10. Thanks! [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:56 AM PST My AT&T Galaxy S10+ updated itself to Android 11 and the volume slider is on the left side of the screen. Is there any way to move it back to the top? Samsung Galaxy S7 - "Backup Password" reset? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:39 AM PST Can someone help me to reset my mom's "backup password" ? She doesn't have a lock screen because any time she goes into "Lock Screen and Security" it asks to "Enter backup password" with "Your password has at least 6 characters, including at least 1 letter and 1 digit". She doesn't recall ever entering a backup password. She can still use her phone, but can't lock it because can't ever enter that backup password. Is there a way to reset that password? I tried looking at a way from her Google account with no luck there either... Thanks for any assistance. [link] [comments] |

Accidentally Turned Off Developer Mode. Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:01 AM PST I accidentally cleared the data and cache of the settings app on my Galaxy J7 Prime. Now the developer option, which was already enabled, has disappeared. How to get it back? Tapping on Build Number says I'm already a developer. (com.anroid.settings.Settings$DeveloperMode is not showing up on the activity launcher app, so external apps dont work) [link] [comments] |
Posted: 27 Jan 2021 11:00 AM PST I could swear that in older versions of Android you could disable network access for an app just by going into the permissions and flicking a switch. In Android 11 (on a Pixel 5) there doesn't seem to be any way to do this. It's possible I'm misremembering and this was never something you could do (without rooting/weird apps/whatever), but I could swear you could. If not, why not? Some apps simply do not need network access and I don't see any reason why Android wouldn't support the ability for the user to prohibit an app from using the Internet. This isn't about me being concerned about mobile data usage; I'm on WiFi 99% of the time. I literally just want to be able to say, "App X doesn't need network access. Android, please prevent this app from using the Internet." [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 09:49 AM PST Is there a way to screen pin multiple apps? Basically, I want my android tablet to act like my Windows Desktop where a different app is on each desktop then I can swipe from one app to the next. For example: I want to have Netflix open, then I can swipe with 3 fingers to switch to Stitcher, then I swipe again to switch to Spotify. Thanks for any ideas! [link] [comments] |

How can I find the play store categories of android apps installed on my phone? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 07:07 AM PST SIMPLE VERSION: I have 500 apps installed on my phone and I want to find which category they belong to according to the play store? For example, Nova Launcher falls in the Personalization category. (OPTIONAL) DETAILED EXPLANATION: I have nova launcher installed on my phone which has the option of making folders in the app drawer. I want to create folders according to play store categories and place the apps there accordingly. Now, I know I can go to the play store and look at various categories and check the listings to see which ones of them I have and do this but that would take a lot of time since I have ~500 applications. As in, I could go to the play store category Personalization and scroll to see which apps I have from that particular category and so on. How do I go about this in a manageable way? Moto G6 w/ SD card formatted as internal storage has 100GB free but says it's out of space Posted: 27 Jan 2021 06:09 AM PST I have a Moto G6 w/ 32GB internal storage and a 128GB SD card that's formatted as internal storage and running Android 9. In settings it says storages is 27% used w/ 31.43GB internal and 11.11GB on the SD card. I get intermittent, but frequent, warnings about being low on space and sometimes it gets slow and I'll get warnings about things Not Responding, with Close/Wait options. I'm happy enough with the phone except for it's not properly using the space available to it. I used to have the SD card as external storage which let me put things like podcast downloads and such on the SD card but it would still give me warnings periodically. The difference now is that can't tell the podcatcher to put it's files on the SD card because in it's dialog it all shows up as internal. Is there anything I can do to fix it? Thanks [link] [comments] |

Posted: 27 Jan 2021 04:38 AM PST I have a phone and a tablet, and often I will leave my tablet at home where my wife can use it. But if we both use the devices logged in to my google account, my timeline gets all messed up. Is there a way to disable the location history per device? Going in to turn it off takes me to my google account settings [link] [comments] |

Sysid.dat is it spyware or a part of Android? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:56 AM PST I was cleaning up my files in Android this morning and I came across a pair of files in seperate parts of the Android folder. The first located in the /data folder and the other in the /obj folder. Both were called "sysid.dat" and inside a folder called ".um". Google searches didn't lead anywhere useful which was a red flag to me, a lot of the sites referencing sysid.dat seemed like garbage pages and suspicious. There was only a single reddit post, and a stackexchange post asking questions about it, but no one seems to be certain in them as to what it is. Does anyone here have any idea? File Locations: "/storage/emulated/0/Android/data/.um/sysid.dat" "/storage/emulated/0/Android/obj/.um/sysid.dat" [link] [comments] |
Posted: 26 Jan 2021 09:48 PM PST Hello, iPhone user here so I am not familiar with android devices. I have an old work phone (Galaxy S9 on android 8.0.) I was told to keep it after the company shut down. The phone has an old work contact I am not in touch with listed as a Samsung account under 'accounts'. My Gmail account is also added here but I believe the Samsung account might be the main one? If I factory reset this device will the FRP kick in and will I need the Samsung account password? Will I be able to log back in with my gmail account? Is there a way to remove the Samsung account without the password? Thanks in advance! [link] [comments] |
How can I control which of my contacts I give permission for an app to access? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:38 AM PST Many apps ask for permission to access my contacts. I have a lot of contacts, and I am ok with giving permission to access just a few contacts of my choosing. How can I control which of my contacts I give permission for an app to access? Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:37 AM PST Hi folks. I was trying to decouple my DNS from Google and my local ISP. Instead I wanted to useuse MIT and Cloudflare. I changed the DNS Server on my router to those respective DNS and rightly so I do seem to have quicker results and I no longer see the ISP search page for invalid domains. However, when I open Termux and do a dig to random domain I see it queries Google's joint still. What gives? I've changed on the router itself and I've even made a static IP for WiFi AP location in Android (and entered the same preferred DNS resolvers). Yet, the Termux test still gives resolves thru 8.8.8.8 Is there another section I'm missing $ dig orange.com ; <<>> DiG 9.14.4 <<>> orange.com ;; global options: +cmd ;; Got answer: ;; ->>HEADER<<- opcode: QUERY, status: NOERROR, id: 55856 ;; flags: qr rd ra; QUERY: 1, ANSWER: 1, AUTHORITY: 0, ADDITIONAL: 1 ;; OPT PSEUDOSECTION: ; EDNS: version: 0, flags:; udp: 512 ;; QUESTION SECTION: ;orange.com. Phone buzzing more annoyingly than stewie calling for mommy Posted: 27 Jan 2021 03:09 AM PST I have a recurring issue with my phone in that it vibrates like i get a notification at random. Sometimes several in a second, most often never with more than a minute of two in between... Its incredibly annoying, and takes me out of apps, disengages searches in browsers and so on. Its a oneplus 7 pro, about a year and a half old, and i have had the problem for maybe 2 months. It persists even with all notifications turned off for all apps in settings, and no app running in the background. [link] [comments] |
