Have I been scammed in some way?

tl;dr took phone to 3rd party repair shop. Picking up the phone it had a different SIM card in the tray. What is the possible risk?

I have a Samsung A70 that I've used since last February. Last night I noticed that the phone was no longer detecting a charging cable being plugged in so after going through the diagnostic steps, I figured out it was the charging port on my phone that was the issue.

It being New Year weekend during a COVID lockdown in London, I had few choices to get my phone fixed. I opted for a 3rd party service because I need my phone for work and for various 2FA services and official Samsung stores in my general area were closed.

I dropped off the phone and was told to collect at 4pm. When I went to collect, before paying the repair guy showed me it was fast charging and so I was happy with it and paid. Within a few moments of leaving the store, a bunch of notifications popped up such as WhatsApp no longer having valid details and asking me to choose an APN for Vodafone - my phone SIM is an O2 SIM.

I went back in the store and told the guy he had replaced the SIM in my phone with a Vodaphone SIM. We confirmed this when he rang me and it didn't ring through on the phone going to VM instead. The guy was adamant he didn't change the SIM etc and was saying he didn't have my SIM. After a few minutes of arguing, one of the other staff picked up a SIM as if by chance which as an O2 SIM and we tried that. It was my SIM.

My phone has a 4-digit PIN lock and was not unlocked for the repairer. My question is - what is the potential risk involved in the situation. If something malicious occurred - what could they have done and how can I protect against any negative consequences? As far as I can see nothing about the phone has changed, and the only noticeable difference is the date changed from the battery being disconnected for an extended period.

Since the last update, Google keeps prompting!

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:38 AM PST

Anytime I click on the microphone on my Google widget to do a search, Google keeps asking me, " What do you want to search for?" This has been happening since the last update.

How do I get rid of this prompt?

Few seconds behind even when Using network time

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:32 AM PST

I found that the phone clock was about 2 seconds behind, even when "Use Network-provided time" was enabled. I unchecked that option and then immediately checked it again. After that, the clock became accurate automatically. So, it seems that Android does not regularly update the time with the network-provided time. Without rooting the phone, is there any way to make the phone update the clock to the network-provided clock regularly?

    Backup everything to icloud

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 09:07 AM PST

When I use Android backup, it backs up the photo and app settings, but it doesn't backup the content. Even though it backs up the app data and settings, you really can't use it to restore to a different phone.

Is there a better backup solution? It would be nice to have someway to backup the entire phone to google drive.

Use share screen and phone camera with webex mobile app on online classes

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:52 AM PST

I don't know if this subreddit is the right one for my post but it's about an android app so I'll try anyway. Please redirect me to a better subreddit if I'm wrong.

I need to use Webex application to show a power point presentation via share screen. The problem is that I can't use my laptop for it and need to do it using my android phone.

Another requirement is that I have to keep the web camera on while I speak.

The problem is that always when I change from the webex mobile app to the powerpoint app my phone camera stops working and my professor can't see me anymore but can still see my presentation and hear me talking.

How can I switch to the powerpoint app and keep my camera on while speaking at the same time, using webex app?

    Thank you for your time!

Is there a way to un-force stop a system app.

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 08:08 AM PST

So yesterday I decided to uninstall Smartthings on my device since I wasn't using it too much. When I went to do so I noticed there was another Smartthings app, but this one was a system app. So I uninstalled the original one from the play store and decided to force stop the other since I m not gonna use smartthings. But when I clicked on the force stop button it said that if I force stop this app it may cause errors.I clicked it anyway and now I can't turn it in. The disable button and force stop button are greyed out and there isn't a way to open it.Is there a way to undo the force stop back on.Also what kind of errors come up when you force stop a system app?I really think I fucked up but I m asking you guys here cuzz I don't get tech very well.Should I let the system app for Smartthings be force stopped or do I turn it on and is there a way to do so.

    AOD Glitch?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 06:55 AM PST

Right, so the AOD on my Note 10+ allows you to change the colours and style on the clock. When i was trying out the style with the AOD picture, the purple colour was somehow applied to the picture, the notification icons and the fingerprint icon as well. I'm not sure if this was a glitch, or I've somehow inadvertently done it, but now only the colour of the clock can be changed back. The picture, notification icons, and fingerprint icon are all still purple and it is driving me crazy. I've tried everything I can think of. Changed the style. Changed the colour. Restarted the phone. Force stopped the AOD app and restarted it. Cleared the AOD app cache and deleted all app data too. Nothing has worked! I'm open to any ideas here, as I'd really rather not perform a factory reset.

Samsung’s One UI keeps popping up randomly when I go to my homescreen when I want to just use Nova

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:19 AM PST

I use Nova launcher with a custom KLWP theme and every now and then when I go to my home screen Samsung's One UI will pop up on top of my KLWP/Nova homescreen, and to get rid of it I press the home button again. I have no idea how to stop it.

I'm on a Galaxy S20 Ultra on Android version 10. Does anyone know how to prevent this?

Weird UI symbols, Notifications and stuff

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:20 PM PST

Okay, So simply put, I'm likely being more paranoid than I should be, but the clarity would really help.
Not too long ago, I had to switch over to an old phone, an old android I hadn't used since about 2016-ish. For the first two weeks it's been working perfectly fine but just lately, Theres been afew weird symbols and things on the screen that I can't make much sense of. They appear periodically and tapping them makes them dissappear, though nothing happens. They don't appear when specific apps are running though.

The phone itself is an ALBA 4, running on android 7.0.

One was a sort of red square with a transparent circle in the middle, with a dollar sign in the middle of that.

Another was a blue circle with a red present and white ribbons.

The third was a notifcation from "System UI" which had a facebook symbol and the message "That's great news!" or something similar - I removed it when I could so I can't quite remember, but it asked me to log into facebook.

Fourth, while not a symbol is a bunch of "stats" at the top right of the screen, just below the usual battery, Wifi and all that stuff.

    It's formatted something like this

    5.55/5.53/2.2

    com.android.systemui

There's visible bars, too - Red, green and blue.

I tried looking up my problem but I couldn't find anything on it that helped with my particular issue.

The phone doesnt allow for screenshots but I'll try and describe any additional information as best I can, And I'm willing to answer as many questions as I need to!

Maybe I really am just being paranoid, but I'd rather be safe about it.

My Pixel completely died. Any way to recover the notes from the notepad app?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 12:11 PM PST

So my phone that I had been using for almost 4 years just died on me out of nowhere. Thankfully when I got a new phone to replace it all of my apps and data had been saved on a backup, but apparently due to the settings of the notepad app, the notes that I had saved in there on my old phone did not carry over with the backup. I used the notepad app quite a bit (not the Keep notes) and had a lot on there I don't want to permanently lose. I know it probably wouldn't be too hard to extract them off the phone with it plugged into the computer, but my phone will not power on at all and is only recognized as some kind of generic usb when it's plugged into the pc. So is there any other way that I can get the data off the phone? Or is getting the phone itself repaired the only way to go?

Do you guys recommend these cases for my fam?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:53 AM PST

Hey guys! Hope you're all well given everything!

I bought my father and little brother S20 and S20FE for Christmas, and debating on whether or not to purchase the Supcase Beetle Pro cases with pre-installed screen protectors.

    https://www.supcase.com/products/galaxy-s20-unicorn-beetle-pro-rugged-case-screen-protector

    https://www.supcase.com/products/galaxy-s20-fe-unicorn-beetle-pro-rugged-case-black

    Thoughts? Should I buy these?

What about the factory screen protector that came with the phones?

Thanks! Hope to hear from you all very soon

Is there a way to resize the pop-out player for videos?

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 07:03 AM PST

Model: Samsung J5 OS: Android 8.1.0, Samsung Experience 9.5

    Chrome Version: 87.0.4280.101

When I open a video in Chrome in fullscreen and then press the home-button, the video will play in a small window pop-out player that I can move around while doing something else. The issue is that the window is very small and I would like to resize it. I know other apps have that feature and I was wondering if there was a way to do that here too. I suspect that this is not a browser-specific issue, since I've seen this same pop-out player in other apps as well (notably Twitch, which previously had a resizable pop-out player, before they switched to this generic one)

    Thanks for the help!

what are my option for backup, what are some good tools

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:21 AM PST

I am trying to find a good backup tool that keeps all my app or the system profile in sync; Does macrium reflect work with Android device. Also if simple copying all the data over to pc works ?

Btw, Does anyone use helenium, I think I gave a try, it was good but there few loops and process is manual. I heard the app is not kept up to date, is it still true. I understand there apps now where you can export data, but not all apps do

Ghost touch due to broken screen

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 10:16 AM PST

So I have an old Xiomi redmi note 3 which has a broken screen. Up until last year it was working fine even with the broken screen and no such issue occurred which required my concern. But suddenly now it has developed a major case of ghost touch where once it starts it doesn't stop until I turn it off and start again. I am looking for a way right now to disable the touch function completely if possible and by software only. I once had a same issue on a windows tablet and was able to disable the touch by some registry variables but am not sure how to do the same for Android. My phone is rooted and already has Magisk installed if it helps. By disabling the touch I am thinking of using a wireless mouse with OTG cable and use it as a media player for the time when my current phone is charging up.

WiFi Connected But No Internet When Using Any VPN/Manual Settings

    Posted: 02 Jan 2021 05:45 AM PST

Hey guys, so I have a really weird issue. I have the LG Velvet and would like to either use a VPN or my Pi-Hole, but if I use any VPN (tried 3-4 (Blokada, personalDNSfilter etc) or modify my network settings (eg changing the gateway to the Pi-Hole IP), the network loses internet connection (although remains 'connected' to the network). I have confirmed this via SpeedTest and WiFiDoctor, both of which can't access the internet. Does anyone have any idea what could be causing this? Not sure what else to try...

I'm with Virgin Media and am using a Hitron router.

Where can I buy microSD cards online that aren't fakes?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 02:41 PM PST

So I was looking on Amazon to buy a microSD card for my phone and a lot of the reviews from Samsung, Sandisk, etc. say they're fake cards or don't hold the storage they claim, etc.

Does anyone know of a place online that won't sell me some knockoff cards? I've even seen this on Walmart's website as well.

I just don't want to get ripped off... ☹

    Thanks!

Is there anyway to have assistant bring up chrome and skip the stupid assistants guess at what I want?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2021 08:49 PM PST

I often ask assistant a question. And it will give me a single result. Without giving me the option to open up the inquiry in chrome so I can scroll though a list of sites that will answer my question.

Its like it's only set to 'I'm feeling lucky' which. As we know. Nobody liked or wanted.
