Screensaver Doesn't Activate on Philips 50PUS7304/12 TV

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 05:54 AM PST

    Hello

I am hoping someone can help with a problem that has been bugging me for months. I have to manually activate the screensaver setting on my Philips TV (Android 9.0 - most recent security patch from October 2020) every day in order for the screensaver to work as it should. I have:

    • Factory reset the TV a few times to see if that resolves the issue (it doesn't);
    • Contacted Philips to see if they could help (they were pretty hopeless); and
    • Scoured the internet (including Reddit) for a fix (I can't see any).

I would be very grateful for any advice anyone has on how to resolve the issue. Otherwise the TV works well. It certainly isn't as fast/smooth as a Nvidia Shield TV but otherwise it does the job.

    Many thanks!

Compatible wireless keyboard and mouse combo for android tv box

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 01:34 AM PST

So I have an android tv box with only two usb ports. Is there a compatible wireless keyboard and mouse that would only take up one usb port that works with most android tv boxes? My box can do bluetooth just fine.

Get rid of paid app recommendations for apps I don't have installed

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:29 AM PST

I got one of the new Chromecast with GoogleTV and the biggest gripe i have is it forcing content from apps I don't subscribe to.

All over the home screen are suggestions for Peacock and H I and other services I don't have installed or subscribe to. The most annoying are the Google play suggestions for paid content from their service.

Is there a way to remove all suggestions for content outside of the apps on the device? I've checked my services and I don't have anything besides what I subscribe to checked.

    Thoughts?

    Verizon Stream TV customizations/hacking?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:27 AM PST

I just got FIOS installed and was able to get their Stream TV for free. Just set it up today. I'm brand new to Android TV, although I've had a Chromecast and Fire Stick for years.

I find the default launcher pretty horrible. I've been seeing these custom launchers which I'd love to install but I'm thinking I can't do that on this device? I hope I'm wrong, and I'll keep looking up how-to's to see if I can manage it but so far haven't had much luck.

I've been able to successfully cast to it from my phone but I cannot figure out how to change the default screen saver to my Google Photos. I see that it says that my screen capture is set to "Backdrop" but there are no other settings and there's no way to see a "Backdrop" and I do in fact have Backdrop Daydream installed, but it doesn't show up in my app list, so there's no way to get into its settings to configure what it shows. Again, I'm guessing VZN has locked this down for some reason?

Am I just stuck with this crippled device? I figure it was free so I can't be too picky, but why does Verizon have to disable everything? Is there any way I can hack into this to remove the Verizon Skin so I can have an actual real Android TV device on not this half-assed version that Verizon dumbs down to make it so lame?

Google TV has an app for PBS and Youtube has PBS (same for many networks). What is the difference?

    Posted: 23 Dec 2020 08:27 AM PST

I am confused by the difference between the apps on Google TV and the Services on YouTube TV.

The above example is for PBS, but I have the same question for ABC, CBS, HGTV, etc. T

Can someone describe what the difference in what the media content or service is: between an G.tv app and YT.tv service? Why would I want an App, if I already have a channel from my existing service provider.

nVidia Shield (not pro) closes app when moving away from input

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 05:15 PM PST

This could be my issue but not sure if there is a work around

I've got an nVidia Shield, this is hooked up to a Harmony remote (Shield device is set to always be on), Denon receiver and Samsung Plasma TV.

When I open Sportsnet and ultimately pause something, when I change sources (ie Raspberry Pi with Kodi), upon navigating back, the app is closed and anything paused is lost.

However, I have an Amazon Fire stick 4k on another setup (also has Harmony remote, receiver is Onkyo and tv is Samsung 1080i) I can open the same app (I know fire stick is not android tv), pause, move away from that input and return to a pause stream.

I know my two setups are not on the same playing field but used them to compare.

In the end, I would like to pause an NHL game and return to it. Everyone suggests the Shield for streaming etc but this turns me off a bit.

No Bluetooth connect button on MI Box s

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 09:12 PM PST

I cant find a connect button for bluetooth devices in the MI Box 4 in the bluetooth devices list.

If i need to connect a previously paired device to the MI box s , i need to pair it again as their is no way to manually connect them.

Am i missing something here? I'm getting mad at having to unpair/pair everytime i need to connect a bluetooth devices .

It'll only connect automatically to the last connected bluetooth devices.

Google TV (GTV) or Nvidia Shield Pro (NSP)

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 02:47 PM PST

Having cut the cord and installed a QNAP NAS for my media, now I want to get Android TV, so would like to ask for pro/con for either Google TV or NVIDIA Shield Pro

I know GTV is cheaper but still required an external adapter to get Ethernet connections and other USB ports.

I also know NSP has better transcoding for video. Is it worth the extra $100 (assuming the adapter costs $25-$40)

Am I missing any thing else? Comments and suggestions?

    Miracast on ATV 9/Pie?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 01:05 PM PST

Google removed Miracast from Oreo onwards. Id there a way to get it back on Android TV? Was the most convenient way to mirror via wireless display function from Windows 10.

    Thanks a lot!

Is showtime 4K on android tv devices?

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 03:56 PM PST

Showtime Anytime does not have 4K content on Android TV (at least on my devices) for select shows so just curious if its better to sub directly via the Showtime app for 4K Dolby vision content

    God AndroidTV sucks.

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 07:54 PM PST

I have three TCL Roku TV's, and went with an TCL AndroidTV for my 4th. It has no ability to recognize HDMI power off signals, it just lingers on a "No Input" error screen for 15 minutes until the sleep function kicks in. Google Home doesn't recognize it. It is there, in my list of home devices, but there are no options for it, and no amount of "Hey Google Turn off the TV" will control it. The "built in chromecast" doesn't even show up unless you manually turn the TV on first. HDMI devices do wake the TV, but instead of doing to the HDMI input it just goes to the AndroidTV home screen.

The RokuTVs do all of the above flawlessly, including a chromecast signal when the TV is off that wakes the TV.

I cannot find one single advantage AndroidTV has over Roku, what is the point of it?
