Instagram keeps crashing when I open it.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 03:15 AM PST

So when I woke up my pixel 4a had a google play update available and I downloaded it. I tried to scroll through Instagram and it crashed. I tried to open it up again and it did the same thing. I cleared the cache and also uninstalled and reinstalled the app. Any other methods I could try to make the app work again?

    Android tablet recommendation

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 11:16 AM PST

Hi all! I hope this is the right place for this post, my apologies if not. If there's a better subreddit to help me with this, please let me know.

I'm looking into buying an Android tablet for my partner's birthday, and I could use some recommendations/advice on what to buy. (I'm an Apple user myself so I'm not familiar with Android products, nor have I ever had a tablet so I don't know how they work.)

He won't use the tablet for much — it would be for online poker (he uses Pokerstars, GG Poker, and Party Poker), Old School RuneScape, and YouTube videos. He very seldom uses streaming services and doesn't browse social media lots, so the games and YouTube would definitely be the primary uses.

I'm looking to spend $200 or less. He's said this is what he would spend to buy it himself, and this is a pretty firm budget, so please don't make recommendations above $200.

Right now, I have my eye on:
Samsung Galaxy Tab A 8" 32GB Android Tablet with Quad-Core Processor
    Lenovo Smart Tab M8 8" 32GB Tablet w/ MediaTek Helio A22 4-Core Processor

(I'm leaning more toward the Lenovo because it goes on sale for Boxing Day)

If anyone can give me some insight into which of these 2 are the better options, or if there are other better options within my price range, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks in advance! Happy holidays everyone, stay safe!

Good screen recorder app for android

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:26 AM PST

To keep it short, I'm using a couple of apps where I can't use any screen recorder to capture the screen. Even after recording the screen whenever I'm trying to play the recorded video, it's showing a black screen. Thus only audio is being captured.

I have tried plenty of apps (mainly from the Play store) but all went in vain.

Is there any good screen recorder app for android which can record the screen effectively?

Any suggestion would be of great help. Thank you.

    Google Play keeps changing settings

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 01:06 AM PST

I have a rooted phone and use YouTube vanced. It works fine for a few days then all of a sudden it won't be YouTube vanced anymore, it'll just be normal YouTube.

So I turn Google Play stores auto update setting off and re-download YouTube vanced. Days later the same thing happens. YouTube vanced turns back to the normal YouTube and lo and behold google play store settings are back to auto update

Why does this happen and how can I stop this?

Security questions and virus questions for Android devices.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:52 AM PST

Hi everyone. Just wanted to ask a couple questions about the security and possiblity of viruses on android devices. I m using a samsung galaxy A20e and have been very satisfied with the phone but since I started to get more and more into online safety, security and phone security I've grown kind of paranoid of everything, including my phone. Is there a way to know that something is wrong with your phone on a security level? I've been using the device care scan feature powered by McAfee and check my phone regularly with it,no threats detected, same with play protect. Haven't downloaded any apps from places other than the google play store. I also just updated to the december security patch.Still with all that I still wonder what are the dead giveaways that something is wrong with your android device or that a malware or a spyware has been on your device. Also is there a reason to download anti virus apps on your phone? Seen a lot of people debate on weather it's good or not but I'm not quite sure myself. Also do malware system apps exist and is there a way to get rid of em?Sorry if my questions are stupid in advance.

My phone doesn't get enough internet.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 06:18 AM PST

Hey, so yesterday I bought a Samsung A31, when I got home I realized that it's not getting full internet connection, I have 200mb/s, which I received perfectly with my previous phone, I'm only getting below 70 now. I tried deactivating the Samsung Max VPN, messing with the Dev Options, but nothing seems to fix the problem. My only guess now is that the phone just isn't made to receive more than that. Does anyone know what could be happening?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 02:28 PM PST

I will see a message and 1 - 6 hours later it will notify me again about it. This only happens for about 20% of my messages.

How do i turn this off?

    Thanks

How do Android smartphone touch screens deal with rain these days?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 02:00 AM PST

    Hello everyone!

I'm currently using a mid-range Android smartphone from 2017. When I use my phone in the rain, the rain drops interfere with the touch screen. This results in a lot of ghost touches on the screen and it makes that it's almost impossible to use my phone, even if it's raining only slightly.

I'm about to buy a new Android smartphone and I was wondering: Does this problem still exist with smartphones that are on the market these days?

    Thanks for reading!

    Did I damage my phone?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 05:43 AM PST

I have a ZTE Android 9 phone and I couldn't install certain apps. This phone doesn't have unknown resources or whatever it is called. I couldn't install mod apps like TubeMate, videoder, etc. I stupidly followed the instructions of two youtube videos. I cleared the data of a system app called package installer then called the permissions of all the apps. Those didn't work until I delete some stuff then I was able to install the apps. But did I do damage? Also another phone of mines completely died all my personal stuff was in it. It just started randomly shutting off and then would start vibrating and jump started when I had the charging in but then shut back off I got it back on for a hour but didn't get my stuff out like a idiot now it won't even come on.

Can I move my whole "Android" folder to my SD card?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 09:27 PM PST

From my knowledge, the "Android" folder contains all data from your apps. I'm running low on storage and need to move stuff to my SD card, is it safe to move my "Android" folder to my SD card? What happens if I take out my SD card?

Is it possible to play music through a Bluetooth speaker, but have all the other audios play through the phone speakers?

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 04:33 AM PST

I am playing music on Spotify connected to a Bluetooth speaker. At the same time I am browsing Instagram, getting voice messages from my friends. It's so annoying that the music pauses every time. wish I could separate the two audios, in parallel vs in sequence. Is this even possible? If so, how?

Bar on top of keyboard with key, card and location icons.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 12:46 AM PST

Hi all, Don't know if it's been asked here and if I get removed, mods please explain why and I'll fix it.

I've noticed in the last couple of days that on secure websites etc (bank etc) there is a bar above the keyboard with the icons above. It's annoying and gets in the way. I use SwiftKey mostly, but it's there on all keyboard ls including Google. I've got a Moto G7 Plus, of that makes any difference.

Does anyone out there know how to get rid of it?

    Thanks in advance.

Looking for tips on what to learn to build a custom recovery and rom.

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 12:38 AM PST

Our semester break just started recently last week and my country being on light lockdown I have no idea what to do, so I started thinking about learning android development stuff (e.g Linux itself, custom recovery and Rom, etc..) but I have no idea what and where to start, though I have a slight idea of how Android works.

Any suggestions on what things to learn first?

alternate way to close left-over split-screen view app/some split-screen advice wanted

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 03:52 AM PST

    image for showing the problem:https://imgur.com/a/NCPNahg

I have a Note 10 Plus which is very tall and I have small hands and I'm used to doing everything extremely quickly. But I'm having trouble with using split-screen view.I find that it takes too long to get out of it, forcing me to tilt the phone or doing finger acrobatics.

I like being able to switch the bottom app out via the "recent apps"-upswipe-hold gesture. But when I'm done using an app, I always do to the "go home"-upswipe and lock the screen. When I do that in split-screen however, this leaves the top-app open.I understand that this is because a user might want to choose another app via homescreen. But I always use an app search to select a new app or the "recent apps"-view.The homescreen is mostly (if not completely) blank for me.In order to close the leftover app, I have to awkwardly click the x, which is all the way at the top of the phone.

Can I close the top-app in some other way?Or better yet: Is there a setting that makes the home-button gesture close both apps?

I found out that alternatively can touch the middle of the divider, drag it down to get back to one-app mode, then do the "go home" gesture and then lock the screen. But I also find this awkward and just not flow well.

I really want to be using split-view, especially with the app-combos from the Samsung Edge-panel, it seems really cool, but switching apps really quickly ends up being more convenient in practice.

Any other advice for making it work better would be greatly appreciated.

Phone doesn't attach as USB storage

    Posted: 18 Dec 2020 03:13 AM PST

I got a new TCL 10L phone last week running Android 10. When I plug it into my Windows 7 PC via USB it charges just fine (I get a vibration and hear a little chime when it's plugged in), but it doesn't appear in Windows Explorer like all of my other USB devices - flash drives, mp3 players, ereaders, my old phone.

From what I understand, it should work right out of the box, so I'm guessing I may have inadvertently disabled something while fiddling with settings and permissions.

Any idea what needs to be done (or undone)?

    Google Play Services notifications

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 11:10 PM PST

I use Nokia 3 Android 7.1.1 and am not interested in updating it at all. After disabling auto update I did not get notifications about update for a long time. However, today I again started getting 'system update available' notification. I swiped left and got the option to stop notifications from Google Play Services. I stopped it. My questions are;-

    1. Will it cause problems?
    2. what notifications do Google Play Services give? Is there anything except 'update is available'? Does it also give security notifications for google account?
    3. What is Google Play Services? Is it a system app?

It turns on, but I can't download anything. It says Google Play instead of Play Store. I tried downloading Google Chrome from the internet app, but the website tells me "this browser is not supported"

    Preproduction Model? Rooted? Please Help

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 01:48 PM PST

I bought a phone off of eBay (LG G8) and went to factory reset the phone but got a weird menu (not the typical LG one I've seen in the past). Can you guys let me know what this means, is it Rooted, maybe a pre production model? If so is there any cons to that, should I return it? Will it just change if I update it

I couldn't find an answer on Google hopefully you guys can help, thank you in advance. Imgur Link to picture of Factory reset screen

    Gallery photos out of order

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:55 PM PST

Hello, I have a Galaxy s20 with Android 11.0. A few days ago I had to do a factory reset, so I moved the photos from the phone storage to my computer and back. Now, some but not all of those pictures are showing as added today, so everything is out of order and it's total chaos. Is there any possible way to get everything back in chronological order? Thank you!!

How do I change the contacts that pop up at the top of list when I share a screen shot?

    Posted: 17 Dec 2020 06:07 PM PST

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to these contacts being here, some I've never even contacted. Example: http://imgur.com/a/WAkSg6C

    Galaxy note 20 ultra.
