Works with Alexa Not available in your country

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:17 AM PST

I just bought a TCL Android TV and I want to turn it on/off and switch inputs with my Echo Dot. In order to pair it using the TCL Assistant Alexa Skill, I'm asked to put in a code from the "Works with Alexa" app on the TV.

I can only find this app on the TV by going to all apps and hitting open on the app. When I try to open it I get the message that it's not available in my country.

Every device and account involved was purchased, registered, and connected in the United States, with no VPN on anything.

I called TCL support, and they told me to talk to Amazon. I'm certain it'll go the other way too, but I'm calling Amazon shortly.

[ADVICE] Best budget mediaplayer for EU (BE)?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 06:05 AM PST

Hey! Currently looking at Xiaomi Mi Box S (EU) and the newest Chromecast with Google TV. The Mi Box is little bit more expensive at €75, the Chromecast is about €70. Which one would be the smoothest and fastest or any other options? I'm based in Belgium so kinda limited it seems. Looking for only devices that have remote tho, the reason I'm not going for the Chromecast 3.

Webcam is too bright. Are there any settings available in Android tv for webcams?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 05:17 AM PST

I plugged my new 4K webcam into my Nvidia Shield connected to a 4K TV and installed Trueconf. The webcam is detected but is overexposed and there is nothing in the Trueconf app that allows changing the webcam settings. Is there a generic app out there that can modify the webcam settings such as exposure, contrast, zooming in/out etc?

Change device name on Assistant Devices - name on Google Home app is not reflecting correctly

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 02:15 AM PST

    Hi All,

I have correctly updated my Mi TV Stick names on both Google Home app and on the devices themselves, but they keep appearing with the factory name on Assistant Devices.

This is bothering me since when I request an action on Google Nest it will return for example: "Playing Friends on MiTV-AESPO 6501" opposed of saying the name of the device that I set which should sound like "Playing Friends on Android TV Room"

Any ideas on how I can change it?

    Picture issue on HDMI input

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 08:58 AM PST

For some reason on my Sony Bravia tv just on HDMI 3 the picture is slightly over to the right which leaves a black line down one side of the screen, it's only this input it does it on, which typically is one of the 4K enhanced ones. Any suggestions?

    Download and watch movies online?

    Posted: 27 Nov 2020 12:51 AM PST

Hi. (Sorry my grammar, English is not my first language) I bought an Amazon firestick for my mother. She doesn't have internet in his house so my idea was download movies in Prime/Netflix like I do in my mobile so my mother can watch the movies offline.

Is not possible, in fire stick there no option to download.

I want a device that is very simple to use that comes with a controller, and is available the feature to download movies. His TV is not smart, and I don't want the device to mirror his phone because I want very simple to use device with a controller. Any idea? Thanks!

So close to getting Duo working!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 01:36 PM PST

    I've got a shield tv 2015, a Logitech c270 and a ps3 eye.

The ps3 eye plugged in at the same time as the Logitech gets around the sound bug for duo.

However, sometimes the camera disconnects, and only comes back after a reboot.

Equally, when it does stay connected, it goes dark after the first call. It still works but the picture goes dark.

Is this a known issue with webcams on Android TV? Is it just me? Are there any fixes other than a reboot?

Play Next on the home screen on includes On Deck items on Plex and not Continue Watching.

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:41 PM PST

So, I watch a lot of movies and some Tv shows on my Android TV on plex. The plex app has two sections inside the app on the home screen - 1) Continue Watching - which includes both Shows and movies & 2) On Deck - which only has Tv shows and next episodes.

The Play next section on my Android TV home only shows items on Deck and not on Continue Watching - so to resume a movie I have to go the app and to resume a Tv episode - I can do it directly from the Android Tv home screen.

What can I do to directly resume movies from my home screen?

Is update support for Android TV really that bad?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 07:34 PM PST

So I'm currently on the market for a new TV and I've narrowed down my options to two: a 'dumb' TV (with a streaming box) and an Android TV.

The only thing holding me back from choosing the latter is update support. I mean, is it really that bad? I've read articles saying that most Android TVs are treated the same way as Android phones (with only 3 to 4 years of updates) and then it becomes unusable when it starts to lose app compatibilty and core functionality.

(probably a silly question) And if it does lose functionality, will it affect main TV features like inputs, live TV (OTA channels), and picture/sound settings, since uh.. it's part of Android?

I want to know your experiences 'cause it's really hard to find a long-term review for something like an Android TV. Any thoughts and recommendations are greatly appreciated!

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 09:45 AM PST

I've been using archos video player for ages, the paid version, and it always worked perfect but and I don't know why I can't play anymore videos stored in my pc via smb.

It's not a permit issue since I can play videos with Vic video player or kodi. I'm getting an error occurred, failed to connect : desktop....

I have tried to uninstall the app and nothing. Any help will be very appreciated since this is my fav player.

4K HDR + Dolby Atmos on the Shield TV

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:29 AM PST

I am running into some performance issues while trying to direct-play some 4K content with Plex on my Shield TV.

Sometimes it just stutters a whole bunch, but other time the UI becomes unresponsive and I have to restart it. Sometimes I can fix it by changing the audio stream to something other than atmos.

Does anyone else experience anything like this?

I have an LG TV, and when using Plex for WebOS I can play the media just fine. Both the TV and Shield TV are connected via ethernet. And I have double checked that it is direct-playing and not transcoding.

Archos Video Player for TV - What is that on the GUI?

    Posted: 26 Nov 2020 11:27 AM PST

I have Archos Video Player installed on my Sony XBR-55X900E TV, and I think this video player is just extraordinary. Last night I noticed something for the first time. When I pause a video, a blue bar appears on the bottom to indicate where in the timeline my video currently is. However, on the left side running from top of the screen to the bottom, there is a bar with a plus sign at the top and a minus sign at the bottom. The bar is filled in about one-third of the way from the bottom to the top. That bar does not indicate the viewing timeline (I was at about 90% of the way to the end of the video when I paused and noticed the bar on the left side).

I played around with the buttons on my Sony remote but nothing I did had any affect on that bar. I thought perhaps it was volume but raising the volume did not affect that bar.

I searched around for an explanation of the various GUI features of the Archos Video Player but I found nothing related to this bar on the left side. Would any of you happen to know what that bar is and how to manipulate it? I thank you for your time and courtesy.
