Trouble bringing WhatsApp messages from IPhone to android

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 05:28 AM PST

    Hello,

Just got my first android phone and I've been trying to get my old WhatsApp messages onto my new phone and it doesn't seem to want to work.

I've tried to backup individual chats to Google drive, tried emailing individual chats and then downloading them to my new phone but when I try to restore from backups on my android it doesn't restore from any of the stuff that I just downloaded!

I saw that you can do a backup of your entire whatsapp, but on my iPhone it only lets me upload it to iCloud rather than to Google drive.

Well and truly stuck, everything else has been fine transferring from IPhone to android but this is proving very problematic.

    Any help is appreciated.

Do in-app purchases on an app deleted from play store are saved when I install and APK?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 04:46 AM PST

Ok, so there used to be this cool app where you could create fake tweets, and it was very fun. I decided to buy the $1,99 premium because I liked the features. Unfortunately, the app got deleted (I guess copyright issues or something), but I still have the app on my phone. I have another app in which I can extract the APK files from any app. Will the premium still be available for me, or I have lost it forever?

Phone app thinks I'm in a different country

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 08:01 PM PDT

Edit: problem solved. I deleted the data on the phone app thanks to recommendation in the comments. I love the reddit community.

This was happening on my pixel 3 and I just ignored it because I was upgrading to pixel 5 but it's still happening.

Basically my phone app whenever I make outgoing calls thinks I'm in a different country when making calls. See here: https://imgur.com/a/Kgm53yM

The calls still go through successfully so its not a big concern other than it throwing me off each time. I'm sure it's related to the fact that I was visiting there for vacation a while ago.

Theres obviously a setting somewhere I'm missing. My default country is set to the United States: https://imgur.com/a/2HXUHaL

    I'm confused. Can anyone help?

Make an app run all the time

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 09:33 AM PST

    Hi,

I have an app that I use for work, but I found that even when I have battery saver off, the app goes offline after several minutes. I can't pick up calls from it, when it does that so I need it to run and be online more or less constantly. I read about wakelocks, but I am not too sure how to set one up, because most tutorials on the internet talk about disabling them.

I found an app called CPU awake that seems to enable me to have the app running, but I'd rather set a wakelock for a specific application - if that's possible - than the whole OS.

I have adb installed on my laptop and I got a rooted Oneplus 6t, running stock android. Can you help please?

Can a forced restart (holding power button) be harmful for Android?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 01:49 AM PST

Say, you reboot your system by holding the power button. Can this corrupt systel files or doesn't it harm the system?

Galaxy S8 plays low fi saloon song when getting text during calls.

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 10:10 AM PST

Hi everyone, I'm in need of technical advice.

My wife discovered a weird anomaly in her Galaxy S8. Whenever she gets a text message during calls the phone starts this very weird poly music that sounds like something out of 80's wild west video game when entering saloon.

The noise is loud, making her unable to hear the caller properly and the sound can only be heard on her end.

I've checked all the settings but she uses only default sounds.

Are you guys familiar with similar symptoms and can you point me towards solving this? I'd like to use factory reset as a last resort.

    Thanks in advance!

    Disable fingerprint scanner entirely

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 09:42 AM PST

Hey folks, not sure if this is the right subreddit, but I'm having issues with the fingerprint scanner on my Moto G5+ running on Android 8.1.0.

I definitely have a hardware issue - the fingerprint scanner has been non-operational for months, with the error message 'Fingerprint hardware not available'. Whatever, no worries, I don't use fingerprints anyway. I do have some still saved but for some reason can't delete them.

My problem is that for some reason, certain apps or settings require my fingerprint to access them, and don't ask for my PIN instead. Main example being the NHS Track and Trace app. I want to see when and where my phone has made contact with someone exposed to the virus. You can do this through Settings -> Google -> COVID-19 Exposure Notifications -> Exposure Checks. When I click on 'Exposure Checks' it shows a fingerprint checking screen that says 'Fingerprint hardware not available' but doesn't give me the option to enter my PIN.

So I was wondering whether there is a way to make my phone forget it has a fingerprint scanner, so that it doesn't ask me for fingerprints I can't provide, or to force my phone to ask for my PIN instead?

How is the Note 20 Ultra exynos version after 3 months?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 04:31 AM PST

I am interested in buying a Note 20 Ultra, however the launch price didn't seem to be worth it for the Exynos version. However, some shops are selling it right now at 880 euros and this price seems more attractive for the compromises brought compared to SD variant. My question is, how is the phone performing regarding battery and heat and thermal throttling? Did it get better since launch or not?

How to force apps to use wifi without manually turning off data?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:32 AM PST

I have a pihole running on my wifi network cause f*ck ads and it works great...until I discovered that Snapchat is using the mobile network to resolve DNS queries to the ad servers to circumvent the pihole. Is there any way to force apps/android to use wifi for everything if it's available without having to turn data on/off all the time?

    Limit Bluetooth Response Frequency

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:24 AM PST

Is there a way for a rooted device to default a Bluetooth connection to 48khz from 96khz?
Viper audio can't do 96khz over LDAC so I need it reduced to 48khz by default on connection.
My device is rooted, but I do not wish to enter dev options and limit it each time I connect the headphones...
Thanks to anyone who can help me

    Stylus pen or the app?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 06:21 AM PST

I've used an Eraser app for years. I mean years. I love it to death. Lately, I've noticed that most times when I touch my stylus pen to an area to erase or draw something the notification bar at the top reveals itself instead of my pen doing what it's supposed to do. I can't recall if this has happened on another drawing app for which I use my stylus, (now that I think about, it has) but could this be the app or my pen? Has anyone else noticed this issue?

Google forcing fingerprint use for covid exposure thing

    Posted: 31 Oct 2020 06:37 PM PDT

    Hi,

I do not generally use fingerprint for unlocking for anything, and have a password for the actual device.

Just now I added a fingerprint solely for use with my password manager quick-unlock.

I do not want figerprint to be used for anything else. Screenlock is still just a password. This seems to be fine for 99% of the things, like if I try to change security settings it asks for my password, not the print.

However, when I was playing around with the COVID exposure thing (founds via Settings, search "covid")...it shows like "X exposure checks in the past 15 days" or something. If I click that to see the details, it asks for my fingerprint. It does not allow me to use my password and there is no way to see that info unless I use fingerprint.

Is this normal? It seems like every other part of the OS behaves as expected and uses my password to authenticate, given that it's what it's set to do....so I'm confused as to why this it's doing that for COVID stuff. After I deleted the fingerprint, it works fine and just asks for the password.

    Thanks

What is the normal CPU utilization of Snapdragon CPUs?

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 03:48 AM PST

    Hey,

I have a Samsung Galaxy M51 with a Snapdragon 730G. I have certain problems with this phone (as described here) so I tested the CPU frequencies and utilization with certain system monitor apps. While looking at the data, my smartphone CPU always seems to be at around 1/3rd of its maximum performance and jumps to 2/3rds or even 100% while scrolling in a browser or social media apps. There are a lot of spikes. I don't really think that this is normal behavior, so I wanted to ask you guys on this subreddit what the typical and normal CPU utilization is while simply browsing the web or social media, as I might suspect this to be the culprit for the problems described in another post. Or are these apps not capable of showing accurate data because I have no root?

    Thanks in Advance!

Realme X50 5G vs Realme 6 Pro vs Realme 7 pro vs Xiaomi Mi 10T lite 5G vs Samsung M31s

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:55 AM PST

Hello everybody, i was wondering if anyone could help me. Which one of those would you choose to offer to an older Brother? He spends a lot of time of his day on the outside so I would like him to have a good battery life and a display he had no trouble to see in sunlight. Also, when he is home he does some light gaming so I would like him to have good performance. Finally, something that will last a few years.

Besides those phones, is there anything you would recommend in that price range? (I also looked at poco x3 nfc but I don't know if I want all those ads)

    Thank you!

Samsung S8 : Impossible to install stock firmware after installing TWRP

    Posted: 01 Nov 2020 02:54 AM PST

    Hello everyone !

I tried to root my Samsung Galaxy S8 G950FD and get into trouble. (integrity verification has failed)

After many different attempt of restarting my dead phone, i managed to boot in TWRP, and did a total format/wipe with it.. Then, i tried to reinstall a stock firmware using ODIN and i got this error : RQT_CLOSE !!

I am still able to boot in download mode or go to the TWRP, but it is impossible to flash something with ODIN.

Does someone know how to flash a stock firmware with TWRP, or to make ODIN work or any other idea to resurrect my phone ?
