Chromecast Google TV - Extra Remote Control?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 05:50 AM PDT

I would love to have more than one remote in our living room. Google doesn't show an extra remote available on their website. BUT there are "Android tv" remotes available on Ebay and Amazon that run off Bluetooth. Any chance these "universal" Android TV remotes will work with Google TV?

    Worm vs Block Zone

Slide your finger to guide the worm ball through the block. Try to get through as many bricks as possible. Get extra worm balls and make the longest worm ever.

Very easy to play but very difficult to achieve high scores.

Blue screen when watching movies from Google Play Movies & TV

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 08:07 AM PDT

Recently got a TCL Android TV and rented a movie from Google Play Movies and TV (now I guess it's Google TV but still looks like the old app) and when I play the movie there's audio but no video, just a bright blue screen. Is anyone else having this issue? Could this be because of the transition to Google TV? The movie will only properly display if I cast it from my phone, but I should be able to just play it from the TV app. I've tried restarting the TV and what not but nothing seems to work.

Built in Chromecast on Hisense 4k tv rarely appears when i try to cast.

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 08:02 AM PDT

I'm having trouble making the built in chromecast pop up when i press the cast button on my apps like YouTube and hulu.

I have 2 Chromecast in my apartment, one regular Chromecast and the built in Chromecast on this tv.

The regular one works fine but the built in one doesn't. I've tried casting while an app is open and when the tv is in the home screen but it rarely appears no matter what.

The tv is running on my guest ssid but even when my phone and the tv are set to my non-guest ssid.

I've also casted successfully from my phone on non-guest ssid to tv on guest ssid before so i dont think its a problem about the ssid.

So what am i doing wrong? Is there an app i need to download or certain conditions i need to meet. Please help

    Bestbuy Warranty?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 07:52 AM PDT

Not sure how to ask this but will try my best- OK, when I purchased my SonyX900H and my Vizio PQX I bought the bestbuy two year warranty for each of them individually. In other words I have a two year warranty on the Sony and another two year warranty on the Vizio.

Seeing that the Vizio and Sony each come with a one year warranty. My question is what happens if something goes wrong with one of them within the first year?

I fear if I contact bestbuy they are going to tell me to contact Vizio or if its the Sony, they are going to tell me to contact Sony since each of them have a one year warranty.

I understand whatever is wrong should be covered with that one year warranty from the manufacturer but then whats the purpose of me paying bestbuy for two years if they won't do anything during the first year till after the manufacturer warranty runs out? Seems i would be paying bestbuy for nothing the first year . Right? Wrong?..

Fortunately nothing is wrong with either of my tvs but was just thinking what would happen, who to contact if something did within this first year of ownership.

I just fear bestbuy will say contact your manufacturer, it is covered, which would be true but than why in the world did I pay you guys for 2 years when you will only cover me during the second year?

Hope this makes sense and hope you can clear this up for me because right now I'm confused as to why I would pay them this first year.

Sorry I never had a decent tv before that required a warranty. Had enough money for 2 the first time in my life, so I never thought or knew anything about how this warranty thing worked before.

    Thanks....

Can i connect a bluetooth dongle to a Philips 55OLED803?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 06:27 AM PDT

So my TV doesn't have bluetooth built-in, and I'm tired of trying to type in various long strings using the remote. My computer keyboard (Keychron K2) supports pairing up to 3 devices so figured I could get a bluetooth dongle for the TV and hook it up to the keyboard.

    Anyone done this?

Can the CCwGTV transcode to 5.1 LPCM?

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 05:36 AM PDT

I have an unusual home theater setup, and am wondering whether the new Chromecast with Google TV can replace my aging HTPC's role given my surround sound setup. These days I mostly just stream Netflix/HBO/etc.

TL;DR: Can the CCwGTV be set to output 5.1 LPCM, transcoding e.g. Netflix 5.1 DD+? If you have one, maybe a screenshot of the audio setup options could help me figure it out?

More details about my current setup:

My Linux HTPC is connected to a projector and a funny little (but awesome) 5.1 tube amp. The amp cannot decode any kind of digital stream, but instead has 6 analog inputs corresponding to each channel. I currently get surround sound by passing my HTPC's HDMI output into a HDMI-audio splitter with 6 analog outputs, which works since the HTPC effectively does DD/DD+/AAC transcoding to 5.1 LPCM. (The HDMI splitter can only work with 5.1 LPCM, it also cannot decode anything itself.)

With this setup, I've got Netflix in 5.1 on Chrome thanks to the Netflix 1080p extension. (If I instead connect a Windows laptop, MS Edge does the same out of the box.)

It would be cool if CCwGTV could output 5.1 to my weird gear, and just replace my HTPC! :-)

Question about the android 9.0 update to Mibox 4k

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 04:28 AM PDT

Recently I've been seeing some problems with the new update to the mibox 4k and some mibox s users and wondering about everyone's experience with it. Some have had bricked devices others have had a host of connectivity issues. So I guess my question is is updating safe? I mostly use my mibox for media consumption on netflix and youtube but I have a decent set up on Kodi that I definitely don't want to lose and have to set up all over again if the update breaks some things and have to factory reset or have a bricked device at worst.

Need an android box to replace my old and trusted WD tv live

    Posted: 23 Oct 2020 01:39 AM PDT

Hello everyone, as stated in the title I think it's time to retire my WD TV live. It served me well in these years, but I think it's time to change for two main reasons: it doesn't support 4k output and can't read h265 encoded files, and modern streaming services don't work on it. I need the android box to have the following features:

-android TV certified os -under 80€ (I live in Italy If it can help) -certified for Amazon, Netflix and YouTube HD -SMB/CIFS network protocol support.

I was tempted by the mi box S but I noticed it doesn't have wired ethetnet connection. I'm worried because I need it to be able to read the video files shared on my local network that I store on my computer, and I fear that a wireless connection could cause problems, since some of them are very big 4k files, but if I'm wrong correct me. Anyway, any kind of help will be appreciated, thanks a lot in afvance.

NVIDIA Shield Google Account disappeared, no option to log in

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 06:11 PM PDT

    Hi everyone,

I have been using the NVIDIA Shield for years now. Yesterday out of nowhere I went to watch YouTube and it said "login", I thought weird but ok. I click on "log in" and the screen goes dim for a second and then just goes back to the same screen "log in". I went into Settings and accounts and my google account is not there and when I click Add Account I can only add "shield" and "NVIDIA". I clicked on the assistant and it said to log in and clicking on it does nothing. I went to the App Store and it says log in and clicking on it does nothing. I went to system apps and cleared data for "Google", but nothing changed. I have no idea why this happened or how to fix it. But there is no way to log into a google account. Any ideas short of a factory reset? Thanks!

    Prime video: Problem occurred

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 05:25 PM PDT

When I try to play something on prime video on my TIVO Stream 4k or my new Chromecast (2020), I get this error message: "We're unable to load the page. Go to home or close and reopen the Prime Video app to retry.". I have tired unplugging the device, clearing data on the app, uninstalling the app, combinations of all of the above, and standing on one foot. Does anyone have any tips. My phone says that my internet speed is 350 Mbps + so I do not think that is the issue.

I'm looking into buying the Sony X900H but I'm wondering how well the voice remote works with universal search in different apps. I see that it will pull results from Netflix if you have it searchable, but how about Amazon Prime or HBO? Anyone have a list of searchable apps?

    Guide and tips for CCGTV

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 08:45 AM PDT

Hello everybody well with all the free time on my hands i figured i compile a little guide if you will about useful things you can do with CCGTV. So hope you all enjoy and may get some use of.

New to side loading and installing?

First you need to go to settings/system/about/ click on android tv os build until it says you are now developer. Now install a file explorer from play store on CCGTV.

Install Send Files To TV on both phone and CCGTV. Download apk you want on phone and send it to CCGTV via Send Files to Tv. Once its transfered on CCGTV open up file explorer go to downloads and you will see apk you sent click on it to install.

If you have an Android device you can also use Easy Fire Tools to install apps you have installed on your Android device can also install apks you have in download folder of Android device.

Once installed go to settings in Easy Fire Tools under fire ip address put in CCGTV ip. Go back to sideload click on icon in top right corner to connect. Click on app you want to install.

To find CCGTV ip go to settings/system/about/status It will be bottom number ie 192.168.x.xx

Looking for 3rd party launcher here is one not in play store.

Appstarter is one of original 3rd party launchers for fire tv. It is no longer being kept up but still works great.

    Features are as follows:

    *Date and time

*All apps installed will show up

    *Can change app icon size

*Sort order of icons on home screen

    *Use own wallpaper for background

    *Can hide/show apps

*Best of all shortcuts for settings, Play Store, Google Play Movies, Games.

To get Play Store, Google Play Movies, Games shortcuts under settings check show system apps. Go back to apps then back to settings that way they register in hidden apps. Now go to hidden apps check all boxes you want to hide just leave the google play shortcuts unchecked. When done click ok.

Want to have your launcher be the default launcher and boot on start of CCGTV?

Then use Ftvlaunchx this is another app made for fire tv. This was designed so you could choose your 3rd party launcher as default home. Also makes chosen launcher boot on startup. This needs permissions to work using adb. Using adb type in the following command hint enter

    pm grant de.codefaktor.ftvlaunchx android.permission.WRITE_SECURE_SETTINGS

Bug: when you go to play store you cant see my apps click on search go back and my apps will appear.

Have a side loaded app that doesn't show up on your launcher?

10/22 ALSO CAN DO THIS TO MAKE PLAY STORE SHORTCUT

    Package name is com.android.vending

This website https://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de creates a shortcut for apps that don't show up on launchers.

Also creates shortcuts for web bookmarks from TV App Repo.

You will need a png for icon and banner. To get icon/banner png you're gonna need to open the apk. You will need to use your file explorer. If you have the apk file itself you will need to long press apk file and open with package installer. If you dont have apk file if your file explorer has an applications manager use that to find app and browse it to find icon. You will need to look in the res folder. Usually under drawable xhdpi or similar folders. Copy icon to different folder somewhere so you can use it with https://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de

You will also need the package name of app. Go to settings/apps find your app to the right under version is what you want you put in.

Generate, download and install on CCGTV and you will now have that app appear on home launcher.

Wanna create a home launcher shortcut for your favorite website?

You will need to install Tv App Repo on CCGTV.

Open TV App Repo choose web bookmark enter url you want. Click generate shortcut, then create shortcut. In about 20 secs you will see download complete and prompt box to install. Go ahead and install it.

You will notice on stock home launcher there is no banner. On replacement launcher the icon is same as TV App Repo. To resolve this go to https://atvlauncher.trekgonewild.de

For web bookmarks the app package will be something like de.eye_interactive.atvl.xxxxx.

Need to connect to CCGTV with ADB?

To connect via android device use Remote Adb Shell

Via windows or mac you can use Adblink http://jocala.com/

To find CCGTV ip go to settings/system/about/status It will be bottom number ie 192.168.x.xx

Want to control CCGTV via phone?

Here are some android remote control apps.

Android TV Remote gives you basic control of ccgtv and has keyboard, touchpad is shacky according to posts.

Cetusplay you need to install on phone and on ccgtv found on playstore. Gives basic controls, keyboard and mouse functions.

Android Remote Box you need to install on phone and on ccgtv found on playstore. Gives basic controls keyboard and mouse functions.

Want to remap buttons for remote control?

Button Mapper well worth getting paid version if you are using 3rd party remote. Found on CCGTV Play Store.

Keyboard/Button Mapper this is free not as straightforward as Button Mapper.

For those who are using a non CCGTV remote like a harmony ( i suspect nvidia remotes and fire remotes would work) you can use mouse toggle app. But you will have to do a work around because those who used it on shield know to disable mouse mode you need to hit home. So the work around is use button remapper and have home single tap as no action.

Also for harmony users yes you can use shield, fire tv, or pc as devices to control CCGTV but enter button doesn't always work ie while typing in play store letters would not show up hitting enter. So you will need to add CCGTV as device in the activity you use and snag select button from CCGTV.

If you want menu button which is handy in for sideloaded apps you can add fire tv as device to do so. Even if you don't have fire tv. Just add it as a device on next page where it asks to connect to bluetooth hit the next button. Let it sync. No need to create activity. Then go to your CCGTV activity choose rerun add fire tv. Finish rerun let it sync. Then map the menu button from fire tv on remote.

For more great tips with Harmony go here thanks SuperSam64

    Update 10/21

    • I removed launcher hijack because for whatever reason it made netflix narrate and say my movements and read descriptions.

    • Also the launcher i had linked because it is pirated. Thanks Teutonjon78

    • Added create icons for apps that dont appear on launcher. Thanks Not-so-Friendly_Elk

    • Added Keyboard/Button Mapper. Thanks redross79

Then run an app like WiFi Ear or a Baby Monitor app to listen to the USB microphone on your Android phone. Will the Android TV recognize the USB Audio Adapter? Will the WiFi Ear Android app run on Android TV? Am I just talking crazy?

Chromecast with Google TV: HDR is not working with Sony X900F

    Posted: 22 Oct 2020 11:43 AM PDT

Chromecast is connected to HDMI2 port directly and audio is routed to Denon receiver via ARC. None of the shows appear with Dolby Vision logo even though the Sony Android TV built in apps show them with DV logo. Not sure what is missing.
