This same question has been posted here 4 years ago. I'm wondering if anyone knows if the course has been updated since then. The course for reference.

Repository Pattern convert room to domain model

Repository Pattern convert room to domain model

    Hello,

I am desperately looking for a possability to convert a room model to a domain model to enable offline functionality to my app. I have successfully implemented this pattern as described in this codelab: https://codelabs.developers.google.com/codelabs/kotlin-android-training-repository/#0

But I use in my domain model the Paging library -> PagedList<com.trashmaster.muellmister.network.Place> and i need it to convert to PagedList<com.trashmaster.muellmister.data.Place> to insert data.

    https://preview.redd.it/tsh40xtmbn951.jpg?width=695&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5313df1c9575fb7406e01178ad70bc6c1ee2ca35

In my ViewModel on the other side I need (convert room model to network model.

    var properties: LiveData<PagedList<[com.trashmaster.muellmister.network.Place](https://com.trashmaster.muellmister.network.Place)\>> (ViewModel)

Is there some kind best practices? Is it possible to merge network data model with room data model?

Online functionality works flawlessly but implementing offline functionality with Paging datasource in combination is hard.

Here is the path to my source

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance

What's happening during rotating the screen?

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 07:07 AM PDT

I heard that during rotating the screen you activity will be destroyed and onCreate() method will be called again. Does it mean that the whole activity class also will be cleared? Because we can have some variables at the top of the class before onCreate() method and they will be cleared too. In addition to that, we can use static keyword and the variable will not be cleared anymore (i guess it's because of the keyword that tells the VM not to clear the value of my variable). What do you guys think about that?

Windows 10 + external monitor causes Android Studio to glitch & freeze at random times

    Posted: 08 Jul 2020 06:39 AM PDT

    Dear Community,

It has been some years since I am using Android Studio and all in all, I really love it, so kudos for that.

But I have a terrible issue that can happen up to 20 times a day and sometime, not once during a whole working day...

This issue can happen on various hardware, be it a Lenovo laptop, an Acer gaming laptop or HP EliteBook.

It has been more than a year since I am facing this issue at random times. After a while, I have gathered that it happens mostly when an external HDMI monitor (regardless of its brand and resolution) is plugged in, with an Intel-powered laptop running Windows 10. To me, these are the common "factors".

What do I mean by glitches and freezes?

Well, it usually occurs when I hit CTRL + SPACE for auto-completion. I notice that the autocompletion is not as snappy as always. Then, the glitching part starts: 1. the tool bar doubles itself, meaning one is idle and the other one shifts downward a little, just enough so that I see it in double. 2. the software iself start to freezes and nothing respond to mouse / touchpad clicks. 3. the whole PC starts to suffer the same fate. Usually, I have Windows Task Manager open at all time to monitor resources usage and when I alt-tab to it, it glitches as well the same way and, also, some black patches appear on top the data. Also, I noticed the Task Manager takes more than one second to refresh said data. 4. Even the windows icon on the bottom-left corner is glitched with Android Studio very icon on top of it ! 5. The whole PC can become unresponsive If I don't act quickly enough. 6. Unplugging the external monitor does not stop the glitches, but Windows Task Manager gets back its one second refresh rate. 7. I was never able to reproduce this issue manually. It really does seem to happen "at random"...

I believe the issue could be related to Intel iGPU, but on my Acer Predator gaming laptop, I have set Android Studio to use the nVidia GPU (an RTX GPU !!) but it did not prevent the issue at all.

Am I the only facing such issue? Is there a solution ? This issue has been occurring since Android Studio 3.x I believe.

Developed an app using Flutter and Firebase which provides a better tourism experience. Tourists can sign up and book local guides based on the current city they are present in. It shows a map of their current location and all the guides present in that area.

Also, do you develop for Android only or for cross platform?
