Hey guys, I am looking for some help ensuring I set up my Sony Bravia 55X8500G for Google control. Sony hasn't been helpful so far with tech support (their trouble shooting guides are pretty decent though). All the documentation I can find is about controlling other google home devices from the Sony TV which with google homes all over my house is completely useless to me.

I haven't been able to find any screenshot of how any android tv presents on the Google home app? After logging into my google account on the TV I did get a device come up but I can't control anything other than volume it's just like a normal Chromecast so unless I'm casting something I can't control anything?

The TV was sold as being the best for google integration but strangely I got a prompt to add to google home with a QR code on the screen took 5 seconds and that works great, I can control power and change inputs. I am a google home automation person though I did have Apple HomeKit set up already as I was testing all over the simple home automation options out.

I did try searching for the device like how I would normally add any other device (even other google homes, Chromecast etc) but I never find any devices

I followed Sony fault finding guide but still the exact same result.

    Here's what I see

Finally cut the cord - Specific questions about a streaming device? (UK)

    Posted: 26 May 2020 01:32 AM PDT

Morning all, Hope this is the right forum, and the right question!

After recently cutting the cord, I'm loking for a replacement streaming device. At the moment I have a Roku Streaming stick + for the 4k plugged directly into my AV Receiver and its been great. But where it was I think it overheated and now its a bit flakey.

I watch Netflix, amazon Prime, NowTV and freeview services like BBC iPlayer. I don't have an antenna for the digital freeview channels

I started looking into alternatives and was wondering what the thoughts of this sub was? Don't mind spending up to or slightly over £200 for the right device. What I've found

    • Nividia Shield was going to be my orignal choice. But they're out of stock everywhere, and more importantly I understand you can't get Now TV on them? Thiis is a deal breakbreaker. I want a device that plays all the content I view.

    • Failing all else just buy a replacement Roku?

    • Then I saw Android TV boxes (read the first comment here about cheap boxes, and that was my concern. Hence the research and coming here). That led me to the Mi Box? Can it do everything? Is there a specific model I should be looking at?

I'd appreciate any thoughts or suggestions that I can go away and research, anything I may have missed.

EDIT: Forgot to say the device would need to work with a harmony Elite remote system

Pairing NVIDIA Shield TV with JBL LINK BAR-Setup question

    Posted: 25 May 2020 10:56 AM PDT

Hi guys, so I'm putting together my first home theatre set-up and just picked up a Vizio P-series television. Due to the lackluster speakers, naturally I started shopping for a sound bar and came across the JBL Link Bar with the accompanying subwoofer. After reading the reviews, I understood that the sound was great but the Android tv elements left a lot to be desired however for $209 at Best Buy, I decided it was still better than anything at that price point. I've also decided that I'm going to pair it with an NVIDIA Shield as that seems to be a great product and I'm excited about a lot of the features.

My question is: what's the best way to set all these devices up? I've considered Optical Audio from sound-bar to TV and plugging the shield directly into the TV hdmi but I'm concerned that I won't be able to control the EQ settings for the sound-bar since they're located within the on screen settings. Any suggestions?

TLDR: best way to set up an NVIDIA Shield to work with a JBL LinkBar
