My Samsung S8 seems to have "forgotten" my SD card is encrypted after adding some files directly to it

    Posted: 06 May 2020 12:24 AM PDT

Theoretically, as long as I can get the device to recognize it's encrypted, it should still have the decryption key in memory and be able to read it, right? I've done nothing besides take it out of the phone, put it in an external reader, add a few files, and put it back in the phone.

I mean, worst comes to worst, I thankfully have a backup from about two-and-a-half weeks ago I can restore, and not lose much (I learned to keep frequent backups the hard way). But if any of you have any ideas on how I could get the system to recognize the card, they'd be appreciated.

[ColorOS7] How do I get rid of the gesture guides on the corners?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:47 AM PDT

They won't show up in screenshots, but they're these curved lines on the bottom corner of my phone? They won't show up if I'm using navigation buttons, so I'm assuming they have something to do with gesture controls. Is there any way to get rid of them?

Is there a way to remote into my S7 phone from Windows, without interacting with the phone?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:33 AM PDT

I'm wondering what the easiest way is to see and control my (Samsung S7, non-rooted) phone's screen from Windows, without interaction required on the phone, and over wifi not usb.

So hopefully making it as easy as RDP or VNC between PCs.

I'm aware of TeamViewer, but that requires me to pick up the phone to get the host ID number.

SideSync similarly requires interaction to connect each time.

There's Samsung Flow, but I can't try it because Windows Store is restricted on this laptop (work thing).

Are there other options I could try?

    Many thanks!

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:31 AM PDT

Okay guys I wanna give Android another chance as I've been an iPhone user for a long time. Last year I tried the Galaxy S10 and it was a really good phone but I found myself missing iOS just after a month and I switched back to iPhone. I would love to try again maybe with the Note 10 Plus or S20 Plus or maybe Note 20 plus or whatever it is gonna be called but I'm afraid of what might happen again. What are your tips?

    <13" portable touchscreen display

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:19 AM PDT

Im looking for a portable touchscreen display to connect to my phone for a tablet-like experience. There are plenty of portable displays but not many touchscreens that are less than 13 inches. Also, the ones i have found seem to require a microUSB to USB connection to the source device for touch functionality. So no go with a phone.

Has anyone run across a portable touchscreen display that can use a single cord for video and touch with their phone? Are there any recommendations for such a display?

How to make it impossible to install apps from unknown sources?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 11:10 AM PDT

My phone has slowly been ruining my life. I would stay up, and browse reddit or chrome until 3, and its taking any productivity out of me. I just want to turn my phone into a productive device with only basic apps like calendar, calculator, voice recorder, etc. Is it possible to just make it do that? Do I need root?

    Safest Keyboard for android

    Posted: 06 May 2020 05:12 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I was concerning more and more about security in android/linux so I was thinking about switching from google services/apps to another ones (for sure in cybersecurity nothing is 100% safe) but you can put more difficulties when some company tried to sell your data. Yeah we know they do not use, its anonymous, in order to improve the product...XD I worked in technologies companies and I m concerned about the security that is why I m changing to spread my apps.

Which keyboard is simple and do not send any information to the developers neither the company? For sure keyboards like gboards (owned by Google) or Swift (by Microsoft) are not an option. I do not care about predictions of words. Just with material design, safe and simple.

    Thanks in advance!

How can I keep my screen on for longer than 10 minutes?

    Posted: 06 May 2020 06:51 AM PDT

    I have a Samsung A40 with Android 10.

The default options for screen timeout have a max limit of 10 minutes.

I have tried an app called Wakey, but it didn't work. They suggested I turn off "Adaptive Battery" and "Put apps to sleep" which I did. Still not working. The issues seems to be Samsung killing background processes.

Any way I can get my screen to stay on and not timeout?

So , I own a moto G5s plus(XT 1804). I recently rooted my phone and installed android 10 pixel experience plus at first.. and VOlte was not working.. and the build said that it had no bugs on it , so I thought it was a random problem with custom ROMS (I'm used to it..) and switched to evolution X android 10.. and sill no VOlte. I was saddened. I tried searching for solutions but there were none.. all the ones that I searched didn't work.. so does anyone have any fix for it.. or any android 10 ROM that has working VOlte??? My Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge wiped all my data on it's own.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:51 AM PDT

Yesterday my phone was working fine at the night and I texted someone goodnight. I woke up today and notice that my alarm didn't turn on. I took a look at my and notice it was off, I turned it on but when it took me to the home screen it was showing the process when you get a new Samsung phone. I turned it off two times making sure it wasn't a glitch but it kept taking me back to that screen. I did the new setup and login. I was given a option to restore my data but not all of it was there, all my things on my sd card were gone and my important files. Over 20,000 thousand files were lost and I'm not sure what to do. If there is a way to get my sd card files back from my phone please help me or if this ever happened to you can you tell me how to fix it.

This is my first reddit post and sorry if it's kinda bad.

Where to check if PIN code will be required after removing SIM card? Samsung A40.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:42 AM PDT

    Hi everyone,

First post, I hope this is the right subreddit.

I am currently in the US but my phone (Samsung A40) is from Europe. I am now looking to get a local number and considering going with a US SIM card so I don't have to pay for a new device.

However, I am worried about the possibility of locking myself out from using the EU (original) SIM card. (If I insert the US SIM and then later inserting the EU SIM again.)

Is there a way I can check if the phone will request a SIM card if I remove the current SIM and then insert it back? If so, where is the tab/page for it? I browsed a bit in settings but didn't find it.

Let me know if moee info is required.

Calls and texts periodically stop working

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:24 AM PDT

I have had a Galaxy s10 for a while now and I've noticed an odd problem. Every so often, for about fifteen minutes or so, my phone stops being able to recieve texts, calls or send texts or calls. I still have internet connection over data or wi-fi that works perfectly fine during the time too. After the fifteen minutes are up, it starts working normally. Has anyone else ran into this problem and, if so, is there a solution?

Function question: Looking into options for auto-complete with full paragraph (canned messages) for older Android phones

    Posted: 06 May 2020 09:16 AM PDT

I own a courier service. Often the courier needs to send a fairly long text to a customer. There are a total of 8 to 10 potential messages to "choose from" depending on the situation.

For iphone, the courier can program a fake word like msggg into the dictionary and that will expend into a full, large paragraph when you type it msggg. We can add as many of these into the dictionary as needed.

For older Androids, doing the same suffers from a small maximum characters limit for the expanding paragraph (can only do a short phrase).

I'm wondering if anyone can think of a solution for the older phones. Perhaps downloading a different keyboard? Perhaps there's another way to used "canned"/ pre-written messages that doesn't depend on the keyboard?

Even for newer phones, I'm not sure text replace/ auto complete is the best solution. For example, on my phone, you can't have multiple paragraphs. (It's all one big block of text

Excuse my amateurish and inconsistent phone vocab!

    Thoughts?

    Much thanks in advance.

Prevent TuneIn app from auto-starting and creating non-dismissable notification

    Posted: 06 May 2020 08:49 AM PDT

    Hi folks,

The TuneIn app on my phone (Zenfone 6, Android 10) seems to put up a persistent notification I can't dismiss every night while my phone is charging. The only way to make it go away is to force stop the app. Why is this happening and how can I prevent it?

Zenfone has an "Auto-start Manager" feature, and TuneIn is not enabled there, but it's happening anyway. In general, is there another way to prevent apps from auto-starting?

I guess I could just block all notifications from TuneIn, but I want the notification when I'm actually using it.

Want to make icons smaller then what system will allow...

I have settings to smallest but icons are still too large for my liking.

This is a android car stereo btw.

I dont really want to install aftermarket launcher.

I have found an app that makes icons larger but not the opposite.

Hoping the experts here know of some small app that can make icons small.

    Tablet shopping advice

    Posted: 06 May 2020 08:25 AM PDT

Current sales have me looking at some tablets. I'm trying to decide between galaxy tab A 2019 10.1 or an iPad. The galaxy is $200 while the iPad is $225.

I'd be using it for web browsing, watching stuff, light gaming. I've always had an android phone but I've heard so so things about tablets. I mean there's a reason Apple dominates the tablet market.

Biggest reservations about the iPad is only 32gb of storage and the general closed sourcedness of apple products. Just looking for thoughts and advice, thanks.

Xiaomi Mi A3 completely useless after the Android 10 update.

    Posted: 06 May 2020 07:40 AM PDT

I just updated my Mi A3 from Android One to Android 10, and I'm having a lot of problems. My apps keep closing, I can't open certain apps (e.g. Gallery), I can't do screenshots, I can't send pictures on any app, the phone is just generally slower. I've been looking for solutions for about 30 minutes now and the only solution I've found is factory reseting my phone.

[Edit: Tried connecting it to my computer, for some reason USB tethering is enabled and I can't disable it from settings]
