    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 04:43 AM PST

I got a message on my Galaxy s8+ thant an update was available, the usual blah blah this will take several minutes during which time you won't be able to make any calls etc. I started the update process ant went to bed. This morning I look at my phone and it doesn't seem to think that there's a SIM card in it. How should I fix this?

Why is migrating Android app data to new devices *still* so difficult? Am I missing something?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 05:24 AM PST

This is mostly a rant, but also a legit criticism.

This feels insane to me that there is no good solution for this. I don't think i have unreasonable expectations here. I trying to move from a non-rooted Pixel 3A to a rooted/flashed Xiaomi 9T Pro with Lineage 17 and bring some app data with me. I'd prefer to just "take everything" but I'll settle for picking and choosing some apps.

I've tried the Google drive backup. One account only shows a handful of apps, the account with all the data I want says "no backup found" despite being able to see it in gDrive. I don't think it's android version related because the secondary account backup was found fine.

I've tried titanium (paid) and oandbackup but they both need root. I didn't root when I got the pixel because I didn't need it, and rooting now would wipe my data. Plus I don't feel moving services should require it.

I've tried Helium (paid) but it seems broken. Can't even make a local backup. Cloud backup has unhelpful errors about no accounts.

Why is this hard? Why isn't there an easy way to move active app data?

How to get NFC on non NFC compatible phone?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 10:21 AM PST

Hi there. I was wondering if there's an adapter that gives a phone NFC support that would show up in the settings like it's built in. Thanks!

Use IOS emojis on Android without rooting?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 01:01 PM PST

Hi there. My question is: Is it possible to change the main emoji theme that is inside the Android OS to be the same like IOS? I know for sure this is possible if you root the phone. Another way could be if you simply download some emoji apps(with alots of ADs) and then change it, but the new emojis would still only appear on that specific keyboard, and not get changed on the system

    Anyone?

Spoofing your battery level to avoid Ubers scummy upcharges

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:54 PM PST

Since Uber supposedly makes its prices purposefully higher if your battery level is low, I've been wondering if there's a way to spoof/fake your battery level so you can avoid this. Anyone figured this out?

Record screen + internal audio + mic on messenger

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:32 PM PST

    Hi all,

The other day I had a messenger video call with my grandfather. He was talking about his childhood and how he was serving in the military and about how he met my grandmother, who's sadly passed away couple years ago.

I wanted this as a memory so I tried to record the conversation with AZ Screen Recorder and I enabled record from mic too but after the conversation of 30 minutes I opened the video and was disappointed when there was no sound. I tried to test it again after and seems like if you record with AZ in the middle of a conversation it doesn't record audio. If you start the recording before the conversation it records audio but only until the call get answered.

Is there a way with or without rooting to record my screen + internal audio + mic on apps like Facebook Messenger?

    Thank you!

How can I get my Facebook calender added to Google Calendar?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 12:15 PM PST

Facebook has removed the ability to automatically have new events showing up on an external calendar, including Google Calendar (afaik!). Now, you need to re-add your calendar every time there's a new item, as it's a static thing and not dynamic.

Any way to automatically sync an external calendar to Google Calendar? In this case it would be the Facebook events calendar.

    Thank you

    failing to receive 1/10 texts.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 11:58 AM PST

I'm not terribly knowledgeable so please bear with me.

For several months I've been failing to get occasional texts from a variety of people. Most come through, but maybe one in ten don't. I've changed phones (Samsung s10 neo to A10), SIM cards, and carriers (from Telus to Fido.) Both providers have reset the network multiple times. I've used three different messaging apps (Facebook messenger, the preloaded Samsung one and I think a Google one.) It seems that the only consistent factor is my phone number, but I can't see how that would affect things, and I really don't want to go through all the trouble of changing it.

    I'm in Canada.

    Please help!

How can I bypass the Bluetooth passcode on my LG G6?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 10:28 AM PST

I just recently got a new Bluetooth enabled toy that can connect to a specific app for more features. But when I try to connect the toy through the Bluetooth settings it asks me for a passcode. Nowhere in the user's manual mentions a passcode for Bluetooth. I've tried the usual default codes like 0000 and 1234 but nothing works. Also I'm running Android 9 if that helps out.

Clicking on reddit app opens Google News app sometimes.

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 10:17 AM PST

This is weird and it's only started happening recently.

Sometimes when I click on the reddit app, it will momentarily open reddit before opening Google News. It'll take me 2 or 3 times opening reddit before the actual app opens.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Happening on realme x2 Pro 12/256. I have the OS built in app lock enabled for reddit but not Google News.

Printing With Google Cloud Print 1 hour delay?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 09:59 AM PST

I have LGV20. I print over wifi using Google Cloud Print. The issue is that the print job does not start until an hour after I hit print. That's nuts. I don't get why.

My GF has apple air print and the delay is seconds. Is this a phone issue, or a google drive issue? Is there some setting I can change or is this just how google print works?

I accidentally installed the wrong vendor/firmware when trying to install a custom rom onto my Redmi K20 Pro. I have backed up all of the directories possible, but my recovery won't let me restore to my backups as "storage is mounted as read only!'

Why did Google remove the ability to use Google Assistant without unlocking your phone for most functions?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 05:30 AM PST

A couple years ago, Google Assistant used to be to so helpful for trivial tasks e.g. turning on bulbs and setting timers.

But now, little things like that always get me, "but first you need to unlock your phone". I'm using the same phone (Galaxy S8), virtually the same settings, an up to date voice model, the latest version of Android, and yet, the functionality has changed.

So many people have been reporting the same thing over the years. The support pages don't even match up with what Google Assistant looks like now.

Is there a reason why Google won't let users do certain tasks without unlocking first? There is no mention of this that I can find.

I genuinely do not get why phones have the always listening chip if you have to have your phone unlocked to do most things.

Staying on WiFi without Internet, while still being able to access the Internet through cellular network

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 05:17 AM PST

Hi. I need to stay connected to a WiFi network without Internet to remote control some device. But even if data is on, I cannot access Internet while connected to this WiFi. So is there a way to solve this? Maybe some dev option I don't know about?

Ps. Sorry if this question has been asked before. If so, can you send me a link to the conversation please?

[S9] Galaxy Themes killed my live wallpaper (Muzei)

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:43 AM PST

For the past while I've been using Muzei as my background of choice on my S9, with the Phuzei plugin to pull from my Google Photos albums. However, something went wrong at some point (at least two months ago?) and Muzei stopped working. Tried some things to sort it out but I was short on time so I put it aside.

Decided to mess with it again today, and here's what I've found:

    • Tapping "Activate" in the Muzei app that previously set it as my wallpaper now says that it couldn't launch the wallpaper chooser and I should select Live Wallpaper in the wallpaper chooser.

    • The home screen wallpaper chooser (by holding on the background) and the button for wallpaper in system settings both open the Galaxy Themes store.

    • I downloaded the Wallpaper app published by Google and pressing the Live Wallpaper option took me to- surprise- the Galaxy Themes store.

    • Galaxy Themes DOES have a live wallpapers option: View All of My Wallpapers, then Live Wallpapers in the top right ellipsis menu, but the button for Muzei and the Google Wallpaper app both just open the Gallery app.

    • Trying to revert the Galaxy Themes app to factory hasn't changed these things.

Any hope for getting Muzei to work again? (One UI Home v1, Android v9)

twonky - the uninvited android folder

I've never installed anything from "twonky".

Anyone knows a way to figure out what created this folder?

What are my options of recovering files from a Galaxy Note 3 with a dead screen?

    Posted: 02 Feb 2020 08:34 AM PST

I'm trying to recover some old files from an old phone but just realized the screen is completely dead. The phone turns on and sounds fine (makes standard sounds of booting up) but the screen is just dead.

I thought I would be able to go to Verizon and have them transfer via cable to cable but they said they no longer do that.

What are my options other than buying a new screen just so that I can use the phone? There is a lock on the phone but I remember the passcode so if I were to somehow mirror my phone's display to a TV, I could transfer it that way.
