Will flashing my device remove all malware?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 06:20 AM PST

    Hello!

First time posting here, so please excuse any errors.

I recently bought a OnePlus 7T Pro from a third-party website, which shipped it from HK to the UK. The device is the chinese version, but came flashed with the global one. (whatever that means)

In the 24 days I had the device, my debit/credit cards got defrauded 3 times. Needless to say, I had to revert to my old device and reset my windows, change my phone number, etc.

No software finds any malware - I have tried Malwarebytes, Avast and Kaspersky. However, absolutely nothing else has changed for me in the past month, except the new device.

So my question is - would flashing the device solve the problem, if it is indeed infected with malware that I have somehow brought onto it by, for example, using public wifi?

    Thank you in advance.

I have a Samsung Galaxy J3. My dad's phone can do this. If there is no way my model can perform this, maybe is there an app that might allow for this?

Is there any possible way to do actual screen mirroring on android devices these days?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:16 AM PST

I haven't been able to do it since my galaxy S5, and every app I find claiming it can do it just directs me right back to casting. I currently have a Pixel 3. Also, is MHL even a thing anymore too?

How to choose a camera app instead of default camera in Skype/Discord?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 04:38 AM PST

I'm looking for a way to be able to choose a camera applications camera(ie one with specific filters and features that I like) and be able to choose it as if it's the phone's default camera within apps like Skype and Discord.

I have tried looking around for something that would allow me to do this and so far have come up empty-handed. Any help would be greatly appreciated thank you

Some apps don't let you use these like Google private browser or onion browser. I want to override this somehow.

    Toggle-able SOCKS proxy on Android?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:44 AM PST

I have an LG G7 ThinQ running Android 9 (stock, unrooted). I set up a Linux machine in a remote location, and I use JuiceSSH to SSH to it, using an RSA key (password login is disabled on the remote machine).

There are some web GUI's that I want to access on that server as well, so I set up a Dynamic SOCKS proxy on port 9005 in JuiceSSH, and manually set the proxy settings in Firefox to 127.0.0.1:9005. With that, I can access the web GUIs on the remote machine as if I was on its local network.

However, this setup means I can't use Firefox UNLESS I am connected to my remote machine. I would like to be able to toggle these proxy settings on and off. I can't use firefox addons, as for some reason FF on Android doesn't support the 'settings' call for the Proxy API. Most proxy apps for Android won't work either, as they only support SSH login with password.

Is there an Android vpn/proxy app out there that can link to my locally-open proxy port? Either that, or a proxy app that works with key logins?

I know you can set proxy settings manually in the system WiFi settings as well, in the settings of individual wifi networks. Is there an app that can change those settings, like Tasker?

How bad is Android tablet app optimization, really?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:24 AM PST

Hey! I've been considering picking up either a used Galaxy Tab S4, iPad Air, or a Chromebook for a secondary productivity and multimedia device. I am a college student and have a laptop, so this device will be primarily used for emails, word processing, and google drive. I've been really impressed with the S4 and S6's keyboard and screen, as well as generally having more freedom with the Android ecosystem with DeX and mouse support. However, I've been hesitant to actually put money down as I've heard that the app ecosystem for android tablets is really lacking. Does anyone have experience with trying the productivity apps I mentioned above on the S4 or S6, and how is it? Are Chrome, Drive (Docs, Sheets, etc), and Microsoft Office usable on an Android tablet or is it so frustrating that I should just consider one of the other options?

    Where is my storage going?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:33 AM PST

I'm on a lower-end phone, and only have 16 GB of internal storage available. I've got a 128 GB SD for pictures, music, and whatever apps the system lets me move to it. The internal storage is full (5.8 GB), but settings only reports 4.1 GB of apps on internal, and the second highest thing is photos at 30 MB. Is the operating system on the phone eating up the remaining 11-ish GB of storage? If not, what is? It's getting to the point where I can't update anything, including the OS. I'd like to be able to solve this problem without having to root the phone.

Play Store not showing notifications for app installations

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 11:08 AM PST

Is it just me or has the Play Store stopped showing notifications for app installations?

And literally related, it'll sometimes say "Google Play Store won't work unless you update Google Play Services".

    List of Deleted Apps?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:03 AM PST

I recently switched from iOS to Android. On iOS there is a feature that keeps a permanent list of every app you have ever downloaded under "Purchased" even if you later delete them. Does Android have a similar feature?

Andoid 5.0 - can I remove the built in applications ?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:04 AM PST

My Samsung Galaxy S4 with Android 5.0 is running low on space ... I'd like to remove some built in apps. I tried the uninstall option - but it looks like that just removes the updates - not the core app. How can I totally remove any of the built in apps ? Thanks

Hulu: Double-Tap to jump forward/backward not working anymore?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 10:02 AM PST

For some reason on my Galaxy Tab using Hulu, I can no longer double-tap to jump forward or back 10 seconds anymore. I can still press the 10-second buttons that are on-screen, but cant do it by tapping. Did I turn something off by accident? I can't seem to get it to do this anymore when I used to be able to do it all the time.

Long time Pixel fan, Samsung virgin, considering a switch. I have some questions.

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:59 AM PST

    Hello!

I have owned Pixel phones since the first one launched. I've had every version of the XL and have loved them, until the 4XL. For me, this was not much of an upgrade over the 3XL and quite frankly it's kind of boring.

So I am thinking about getting the new Samsung Galaxy when it launches in Febuary, I believe.

Can you guys tell me what I can expect when making this change? I've never used Samsung and the only Android phones I've ever used have been the pixel with "stock" android.

Will I hate Samsung? From what I've read people seem to either love it or hate it.

What are some major changes I can expect if I switch?

    Thanks!

Google apps for education and play store

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 09:07 AM PST

Hi, I've a device I use exclusively on my school, and we are using Google apps for education. I wanted to start new year with a clean device, so I've done a factory reset and when reinstalling, I tried to use directly my Google apps account in the device, and not my private account as before.

This way everything works fine, except that inside play store I see something like " apps for your school" and an empty listing.

I'm able to insert a credit card, but Google play asks to change country and other things...

Is there a simpler way to see the normal play store? Maybe I can just sideload apps I need ?

Samsung galaxy A8 (2018) storage full - nothing inside

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:59 AM PST

    Hi everyone,

Sorry to ask for help but i've been digging through a lot of things before asking here and am still unable to figure out what's going on.

So for a while now my galaxy a8 internal storage has been quite full, i've been buying an sd card, moved music, photos and all big data stuff to it and it went quite ok.

Yet recently i noticed that my phone in settings says i only have something like 1gb left. I tried to look at what was taking so much space but it is unable to give me any reason.

I thought ok w:e, i'll dig with some file explorer and surprise every file explorer i use either from windows with my phone usb-wired or on the phone itself are barely able to find something around 5 gb of data yet the phone is still full. Below you'll find some pic showing the problem.

I ran out of ideas and would welcome any new one.

    Thank you in advance

HDR videos not playing anymore on Xiaomi Mi 9T

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 12:00 AM PST

    Hey guys

I have a problem when playing HDR videos, the color looks washed out and not saturated but the weird thing is it used to play well some time ago and I just noticed this recently when I tried playing an HDR file.

Here is the video I tried to play : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tO01J-M3g0UI downloaded both the HDR and non-HDR versions to compare and here is what they look like

    HDR : https://i.imgur.com/11eLMVv.png

    Non-HDR : https://i.imgur.com/U74ubhD.png

I tried playing using MX player and VLC player and got the same results.

So how do I solve this? I have a MI 9T global on MIUI 10.

    Voicemail notification on unactivated phone?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 08:22 AM PST

This brand new, unactivated phone, has a notification that won't swipe away. When I click it, it tries to dial out?? With no indication what number it's attempting. I do not plan to activate it, it's just a cheap one I'm using it for inventory purposes only, it will get broken soon most likely.

How do I remove it from lock screen and notification pull down?

Switching from Apple to Android I have some questions?

    Posted: 01 Jan 2020 07:07 AM PST

Hi All, I will be switching from an iPhone XS Max to a Samsung note 10+ tomorrow and I have a few questions. I did have an Android phone for a short time about 5-7 years ago. But have mainly been an Apple user up until now.

Also hope this is the correct sub?

1, what's the best way to move contacts from iCloud/iPhone to the new phone?

2, can I move apps or is there a way to tell the new phone to download the same apps without doing it one app at a time?

3, what things do I need to know about the switch?

    4, what am I forgetting?

5, what's the biggest pain going from iOS to android?

    Thanks for any help David
