mi 4k laser projector vs. Netflix

    Posted: 17 Jun 2021 02:47 AM PDT

I just bought the Xiaomi mi 4k to replace my tv, and I was surprised the built-in android TV doesn't work with Netflix (impossible to install it from Google Play).

I was looking for solutions, and found an old post somewhere that suggested maybe an older Netflix APK could work.
I installed one of my most-often used Android apps, the X-plore file manager and installed the obsolete Netflix APK. It didn't work. And then I couldn't even uninstall it in a normal way, because it wasn't shown on the list of apps.

But it turns out X-plore's App manager feature (which you need to first enable for any of the two panels) was not only able to find my unsuccessful installation of the old Netflix app, but also found an existing built-in Netflix app in the System group.
Netflix was actually there, not just disabled, but also hidden (which is probably the reason why I couldn't see my installed version in the app list before).
X-plore let me enable the built-in Netflix app and hey presto! It works! :-D

My Android Philips tv remote is acting up

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 08:14 PM PDT

Actually it's not doing anything. And, while it has two lights at the head of the remote that are supposed to blink when I press a button, only one does. Should I just get a new remote?

Also I tried setting up an app on my phone to be a remote for the tv but the app(s) couldn't find my tv even though we're on the same wifi..?

display Calendar, to-do's, notes etc on the Standby Screen?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 01:21 PM PDT

    Hey,

I have the new Chromecast with Google TV here.

I'm wondering if there's a way that I could add things like Calendar events (most important), To-Do's, Notes, etc on the Standby Screen (you know, where it shows the clock and weather with wallpapers and stuff)?

Maybe sorta like a "At a Glance" widget thingy?

    Or some other alternative?

It would be super helpful for me since I have my TV screen in my room turned on all day, and since I have ADHD I constantly forget things like appointments or to-do's, so having these things constantly displayed in front of me would really help with the "out of sight, out of mind" thing people like me suffer from.

How to adjust picture settings while watching contents?

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 04:50 PM PDT

The remote of my Android TV (Xiaomi Mi P1 55") doesn't have any button for Settings. I adjusted TV's picture settings by navigating the Settings icon from Home Screen but when I watch HDMI2, picture settings are different (default bright). How can I adjust picture settings of HDMI2 source without going back to TV's Home Screen?

I don't get appropriate blacks when I play videos through Xiaomi Mi Box S

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 03:30 PM PDT

I have recently bought a new Samsung TV (Q95T). When I play high quality videos natively through Samsung's OS picture quality is miles better compared to playing same videos over VLC Player or Kodi via Android TV Box (Xiaomi Mi Box S).

Here's what a completely dark scene looks like when a video file is played through Xiaomi Mi Box S (played via VLC app - hooked to HDMI Port 1): https://www.dropbox.com/s/9xqy6qgewatviql/IMG_2282.jpg?dl=0

When the same thing is played on Samsung's Tizen, it's awesome, you can't discern anything, it's just completely black and everything is much sharper and better looking. Even when I play it on my laptop it's totally black.

Anybody encountered this problem? I tried playing with display settings on Xiaomi Mi Box S, changing screen resolutions, refresh rates, color space options. Nothing helped.

Is the only solution buying perhaps a better media/blu-ray player or is this the HDMI limitation that just has to be accepted?

Thanks everyone in advance for taking a look on this. Any help and input is greatly appreciated!

Airflow app for x265 (4k HDR 10 bits) files on Google TV

    Posted: 16 Jun 2021 09:27 AM PDT

    Hello

I'm having trouble with the decoding of x265 (4K HDR 10 bits) files on my Google TV. I tried several solutions, both through a USB stick, locally or by streaming from my desktop computer, using various app or casting, but they all failed in terms of smooth video playback. They were all very choppy and impossible to watch. Several however were successful with the audio decoding and I could see 7.1 or 5.1 signal being transmitted fine to my receiver.

Now, I came across the Airflow app and for the first time, I got a very smooth and correctly decoded video stream directly from my desktop computer casting to the Google TV device. However, although the screen displayed the audio as being 7.1 or 5.1, the receiver was only getting a stereo signal.

What is wrong? What do you suggest? Am I on the right path??

Also, as a side note, I tried contacting the Airflow support but didn't get an answer yet.
