every time my apps update, they switch from external Storage to internal storage. Is there a way to stop this?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 04:59 AM PDT

This happens a lot and it's a hassle because I have to go through my apps and manually check each one. Is there an app or some code I can run that can switch specified apps to external storage?

How to change phone number on S21?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 05:11 AM PDT

    Hi,
I just got a new S21 and a 5G plan. The phone number with the plan was different to my old one, so I put it into my phone as my number. But now my number has been changed back to my old one. How do I change my phone number in settings so that I can see all the messages for it in the Messages app?

Random notification sound out of nowhere

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 12:26 PM PDT

    Hi.

Since a few days ago, I've had a weird problem. My phone, Xiaomi Redmi Note 8T, with Android 10 and MIUI Global 12.0.2, started emitting a waterdrop notification sound at seemingly random times. It happens when I'm not using the phone and it's locked, it happens sometimes the moment I unlock it, and it happens when I'm using it. I can't narrow it down to any event, it seems completely random. There's no notification with the sound, literally nothing happens. This started a few days ago, I didn't install any new app or anything that could do this.

After researching a bit on Google, I've found no solutions for me - for some people random notification happened when they carried a credit card near their phone and it tried to read it with NFC, but I don't carry my card near my phone, and it happens when it just lies on my desk. I have all extra sounds, like unlock sound etc., turned off.

Please help me, this has been driving me crazy. Also let me know if this is the wrong place to ask, it may have something to do with MIUI specifically maybe?

Bought Boost Prepaid Moto G Power (2021), won't work on wifi only? Is there a way around this???

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 12:24 PM PDT

ETA Prime on YouTube made a video about the Moto G Power 2021 version that Boost has. Seemed like a good phone for the price and at only $85, I picked one up. Planned on just using it on wifi only, but to my surprise the carrior activation app disables wifi only use. Connects to wifi but shows offline. Really disappointed in that. I know the fine print, "must activate within 60 days" blah blah blah. Lots of people buy prepaid phones for wifi only, I planned to do the same. Is there any way around this?

I even entertained the idea for a moment to activate it, but when trying to do it online I got an error that the sim card number is invalid...it's like they just don't want me to use this...

If anyone knows a way around this, I would be very appreciative.

Should I really care about RAM?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 11:01 PM PDT

That. It's something I've been mulling over, seeing the Redmi Note 10 series came out and I'm interested in getting one.

Where I live, phones already get an 'interesting' surcharge, and though I don't think the difference between 4 GB and 6 GB will be higher than $50, I don't want to fall into a dumb man's trap.

I know this ain't a PC, and it's not something you're expected to realistically run for 6 years. But I have been noticing a trend of phones starting to get on the 6 GB line, which makes me worried the phone turns 'obsolete' before what I'd consider admittable.

I tried testing my current phone, which has 3 GB, and I don't see it go above 2,8 even with five simultaneous apps open. But it's also true I'm also now using a custom rom, to put an example, and that I don't know if it has to do with Android being able ti manage it efficiently either. It isn't really slow right now, so I feel safe there... but what I'm worried is the immediate future (1/2 years).

I don't know, sorry if it's a dumb question but I haven't gotten clear results through looking it up online, and I'm just afraid of RAM being a sales pitch like CPU clock speeds are/used to be not too long ago.

Whenever my phone downloads a video, it gets put in a random place at the gallery!

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 11:13 AM PDT

I got a LG K41s android phone and the biggest problem I have with it is that whenever it downloads an old video (example: one from 2017) it either gets put at the end of the gallery or in the middle of everything else. In my old phone, the videos were downloaded normally and placed at the top of the gallery. The problem was negligible at first, but since my gallery is growing it gets increasingly harder to find the videos I download

Does anyone else's phone work this way? Is it normal? Is there any fix to this problem? Thanks in advance!

I have a new android phone, and I need help restoring whatsapp chat from old phone to new, although I have started using the whatsapp on the new phone...

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 06:07 AM PDT

So basically, my old phone (Sony Xperia C4 Dual) has gotten into an accident, so I bought a new phone (Samsung Galaxy M31s) and have used it for a couple days. I made the fatal mistake of not restoring my whatsapp chat from the old phone and had new chat for a couple days on the new phone. My question is: can I restore whatsapp chat without it deleting my new chat?

Is there any way to mod my android 4.2.2

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 09:37 AM PDT

I have been using a Galaxy mega for 8 years. The hardware of the phone is very reliable but the software is starting to become unsupported. Just recently the youtube app stopped allowing me to play videos despite it working for 8 years. I now have to watch youtube within the chrome browser.

I was wondering if theres any way to modify the OS or software to update it the same way that you can with a desktop computer. My desktop machine uses an 11 year old motherboard but can still run modern games just fine with software updates so is it possible with a phone like this?

The phone actually works fine otherwise it's not slow or anything just the software support is needed.

Is there a way to simulate an older version of android?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 09:12 AM PDT

I'm mainly asking because a game I have a lot of nostalgia for, mad cows, was never updated to my current android version and will not run, so I want to know if it's possible to go back a version somehow so I can replay it.

Is it possible giving contact permission to an app without actually sharing contacts?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 09:10 AM PDT

My workplace has a new mandatory app for work purposes and to interact other users (aka messaging etc) app needs contacts permission. We cant find/add users without sharing contact. Of course i dont want that for privacy etc. Is it possible to give only-sim or only-Phone contacts (which has few contacts that i can share) and not Gmail contacts? Or is there any other way?

    Android as a 4k 60fps webcam ?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 12:43 AM PDT

    Hello everyone,

I'm currently using my Mi9 as a webcam using DroidCamX, I can hit 1080p which is good but could be better.

Unfortunately DroidCamX (paid version) won't offer more than 1080p 30fps.
My camera can do 60fps and 4k, any of you knows a better pro app to hit such goals ? Either of them or both of course.

    Thanks for your help.

Wi-fi packet loss on LG G7

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 08:10 AM PDT

I have a 2 year old LG G7 Thin Q. The past couple of days I have had to turn on mobile data to get a couple of apps to load. I ran a speed test and it turns out that I am getting serious packet loss (20-32%) on wi-fi on my phone, both on 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz. I tested my laptop and there is 0% packet loss, so it seems that it is a phone issue. Any ideas on how to fix this? I have a limited data plan so don't want to use mobile data all the time, especially as one of the apps regularly has 500 mb downloads.

Need some android help - issues with certain applications (Pixel 4a, Up to date OS)

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 07:15 AM PDT

I have an odd issue that started yesterday. When I am using applications, I will get a brief flash of the App stuck screen with the option to close or wait. But it goes away so quickly that its almost a non issue. Annoying nonetheless.

The main issue I have is that when I try to open spotify while logged in to the app, it insta-crashes. I have tried reinstalling, force closing, clearing cache, clearing app data and updating my phone. Nothing works. Does anyone have any idea why the second I log into spotify it crashes? Also any tips for the above issue as well?

I have a pixel resolution problem while playing.

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 03:53 AM PDT

Hi. I recently bought an Android tablet, a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2019). As soon as I set it up I started installing games like Brawl Stars and Minecraft, but I noticed that something was wrong: the resolution only goes up to 720p, although the tablet can reach 1080p. I remember that my tablet only managed to hit 1080p in a game ONCE in its lifetime. I don't know what the problem is... Any help? Thanks in advance.

DIY Options for repairing spider cracks?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 11:07 PM PDT

Dropped a Google Pixel 3a, cracked the screen. It's not shattered, just several spider cracks on the upper end of the screen. No large gaps of glass missing. Screen and phone functionality are completely normal. Looking for DIY ways to fill in the cracks, like the kind of stuff they sell for windshields. Any possibilities? Haven't found any that actually look legit.

    Note-taking Apps with Pen Support?

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 02:12 AM PDT

I use the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 with its S-pen, and Bliss OS x86 with my One by Wacom graphics tablet.

I'm looking for note-taking apps that can take advantage of the pens. I love Samsung Notes, but it works with Samsung devices only; Microsoft OneNote is also good, but notes taken from my phone can't be accessed on the Win10 app.

So I need some alternatives. Any ideas?

eSim on Samsung Exynos in USA

    Posted: 19 Mar 2021 01:50 AM PDT

Has anyone tried using a samsung Exynos device in the US and tried activating service with a carrier through esim? I know carriers have to support it but I was just wondering if getting the QR code would still allow activation.

Very unfortunate that Samsung still hasn't enabled esim for their US devices

Disabling or requiring a PIN for IAP?

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 04:00 PM PDT

I profusely apologize if this was asked before, but even after an hour of trying to work it out (including Google searches and banging my head on a wall), I cannot, at all, figure out how to search within a specific subreddit. There is only the search bar at the top of the screen and it will not search only this sub. There is no box on the right, as Google insists that there is.

    Anyway on to my question.

I am ashamedly addicted to spending money in games, and of course my phone is the main way I do this. I can turn on requiring my password yes, but I know my password. I can't have my husband change my password because I need it to access my email and Chrome, which both are linked to my google account. Clever girl, that Google.

They have removed the ability to turn off IAP, and even the parental controls do not allow you to totally disable them, or even control them at all. The best I can do is to make it ask for a password or fingerprint every time I want to make a purchases. Neither of these options work. It would be great if I could have my husband enter a PIN that would need to be used with every purchase, but it appears that this feature is gone now?

Additionally, they have totally removed the ability to remove payment methods from your Google wallet, which I find totally unacceptable.

There are no UTD answers that I can find on Google (there was a recent update that changed a lot in the play store/Google pay), so if anyone can shed some light on this for me I would be eternally grateful.

    TL;DR
Is there a way to prevent IAP without a password/fingerprint? (I need to use a PIN, or disable them completely)

Cannot lower volume to 0 when absolute volume control is on via bluetooth

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 09:56 PM PDT

When I try to lower my bluetooth earphone (Sony WI-1000X) volume to 0, it automatically goes back to 1 (using a 0-150 volume scale) and there would still be sound. Anyone experiencing similar issues?

Tested on Galaxy Tab S6 and note 20 ultra (both on Android 11), same issue.

Same Android version (9), different wi-fi behavior

    Posted: 18 Mar 2021 07:40 PM PDT

So I have two Galaxy Note 8s, both running Android 9, with the build date being only one month different (Oct, Nov). On the newer one, I can have wi-fi on, mobile data off, and still turn on wi-fi tethering. And I have double-checked that data is coming in and going out to other devices. On the other one, if I try to turn on tethering, it tells me I have to turn off wi-fi.

Is one or both of them normal?
