Would the Chromecast with Google TV remote work with any Android TV box as many boxes come with large bad remotes.

Shield remote to control smart home

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:47 AM PST

Hey all. I'm looking for a way to press a button on the remote control and have it trigger smart home automations and start my hue sync box.

I downloaded buttonmapper, and I see on the advanced functions page there are some options that look promising. I'm not super familiar with it though.

Ideally, I'd like for it to be able to talk to Google, Smartthings and Hue. If anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

Considering an upgrade from Jetstream 4k

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 06:50 AM PST

I bought the Jetstream a little over a year ago for $45 and it worked great and even integrated well with my Google home speakers.

There were a few bugs I learned to work around, but once the box upgraded to Android 9 it started having these two issues that drive me crazy.

I can no longer turn on my TV with my voice. (oddly this started working again two months ago but stopped again last weekish). Once on voice controls work fine, but kids keep hiding the remote.

Youtube app is always signed out when I turn it on which results in kids seeing ads or content I want to hide.

If anyone has any solutions for this I'll love you forever. If not, do you know if the new Chromecast Google tv has these issues? I need the ethernet port so the cost is a bit more than I want just to fix these two problems, but I'll do it if it's the only way.

TV going to idle in between watching movies

    Posted: 22 Dec 2020 04:06 AM PST

X900h is great tv & impressed with picture quality. After updating the latest firmware recently the tv goes to idle state if no button is pressed in 1 hour. Its bit annoying. Did anybody experienced it? And how to fix that?

Set up android tv box for ease of use?

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 06:44 PM PST

Hi all! I just picked up my first android tv box and I'd like to set it up for my wife to use. What I'd like to do is have folders containing episodes of her shows she likes, and have those folders appear in whatever media player as TV show/movie titles. Any apps out there that allow a setup like that?

    Looking for current remote info/suggestions...

    Posted: 21 Dec 2020 02:07 PM PST

I posted this question in /HTPC but quickly found that sub for people MUCH more into TV than myself or my family. Plenty of people willing to drop $100+ on a remote.. Hoping to spend half that.. or less.. And my setup is way way WAY less complicated..

I'm looking for a simple remote to use with my current HTPC in the living room and a new android box I 'want' to put in the family room that will replace an amazon fire TV stick. Each room has only one device and one TV.. that's it..

The little lady just asked that I "keep it simple" Eventually i hope to have the same android box in both room, so same remote now is a nice touch..

    The only "real" requirements are

    1. RF or Bluetooth to control android tv..

    2. Ability turn the volume up and down on the TV..

Pretty much that's it.. I would just use the fire tv remote.. but some issues there..

Seems IR learning is the only way to be sure that #2 works correctly. Don't need keyboard, or air mouse or voice.. I wouldn't turn any of them down.. But they don't add any real "value" to this now..

I've looked at a bunch on amazon.. But not sure about which one would "fit" Looking for suggestions or recommendations as none 'feel' right..

Universal Remote for Nvidia Shield,Voice Search,Air Mouse, for Android TV

    - Looks good.. simple easy..

New Air TV Remote Air Remote Mouse TV Voice Remote with 2.4G Wireless for Nvidia Shield

    - looks new.. not alot of reviews.. not sure about IR functionality..

WeChip G20 Voice Remote Wireless Replacement Remote for Nvidia Shield/PC/Android TV

    - again looks good.. but few comments suggest volume control may be flaky..

Rii K25 Multifunction Portable 2.4GHz Mini Wireless Fly Mouse

    - bigger than i was hoping, extra keyboard.. but still acceptable

That is the "realm" I'm looking to stay in.. I'd go double the price of any to get it "just right" But I really just need a step stool.. And everyone is telling me to buy an extension ladder.. if you get my drift..
