Samsung phones can provide a rough blood oxygen reading!

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:22 PM PDT

Many probably already know but Samsung phones from the S5 upwards come with a pulse oximeter next to the camera. The oxygen reading used to be available through the S Health app as SpO2, however an update last year removed that option for many. It was either put under the Stress Management option or taken out altogether due to local regulations. If you cannot find it, a workaround is available in the following post: https://www.reddit.com/r/GalaxyNote9/comments/cn1x6f/samsung_health_feature_for_measuring_blood_oxygen/ew6nwuv/

The app above actually provides the raw data from the sensor rather than an average, giving more detail and allowing bad input to be ignored.

Google Messages is much better than Samsung Messages

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 09:50 AM PDT

Even without RCS, Google Messages is so much smoother. I notice a lag on Samsung Messages. Also, you are able to set SMS verification on Google Messages without getting an actual notification from the top of the screen. It just says "Delivered" on the bottom of the SMS text.

If Samsung Messages links up to Google Jibe, problem solved. But until then...

After using Android for 8+ years, I am looking forward to buying the new iPhone.

    Posted: 04 Apr 2020 02:07 PM PDT

I used to own a S10+ which shattered. I wanted to wait for the S20 ultra, so in the meantime I purchased the S10e. S20 Ultra came and I wasn't impressed. The camera excitement died down after I saw the samples and the zoom lens seemed like a joke.

I thought to myself that I would get another S20e or something because I really liked the compact size but they took that option away. So here I sit with the S10e which is probably one of the best phones I have owned. I was getting tired of huge phones, there was a time in my life where I loved big screen phones, but right now as a 30+ male, I just want a phone that has a good camera and just works. I don't care about root access or Android openeness like I used to.

My last iPhone was the 3Gs and I replaced that with Galaxy S3 and ever since then I've exclusively owned Notes and Galaxies. I think I see myself getting bored and tired of Android. And looking for something new. So I think I will jump onto the next iPhone 12 when it comes out. If my experience with the new iPhone sucks then I'll probably be looking at the Note 10 Ultra. If I can't get a compact sized flagship then I might as well get the biggest phone lol.

Anyone else in the same boat. or anyone who has done the switch from Android to iOS recently, what is your experience? Or anyone who went from iOS to Android?

    Edit: some more elaboration:

When I was younger I loved the openness of the Android OS compared to iOS. I used to root my phones and tweak it to my liking. I used to install launchers and change them out and really customize them. I liked to have widgets and all that jazz. I loved the fact that I could just plug my phone in and use it as a usb with no itunes. I liked the SD card option. I used to change the backgrounds pretty often and even had that weird video background thing, I can't remember what it was called. I used to load up my SD cards with movies and shows that I had downloaded and watch them on the plane or just offline.

However, I hadn't done most of those things since ~2018. For the past two years, my phone has had black background, stock launchers, no widgets (except weather). I have no new movies on my SD card. Only ones I have are from 2016 lol.

I have started giving more priority to convenience and ease than ability to customize. I haven't downloaded any movies for 2-3 years. I have found it easier and convenient to buy subscription services such as hulu, netflix, disney+, HBO, staz and prime. So having these I have no need to download anything, and most of these let me download for offline viewing anyways. And I have started to build a solid library by buying movies on youtube/google movies. why youtube? because almost everyone has youtube and anywhere I go, most TVs have youtube and I can just log in and access my movies and shows that I have bought. yes this cost money but I find it convenient. The downsides are the need for internet and that the 4K movies on youtube still wont match the quality of a bluray which costs the same amount. But little bit of compression is a good price to pay for having these movies anywhere you go.

Lets get back on track lol. I'm really looking forward to what iPhone has to offer. These days my requirement is mainly a good camera and screen, and I think iPhone normally delivers on both.

I thought this my ight be interesting to some of you.

As for the gap in November, I really don't know why it happened, the app must've been killed by accident and I never restarted my phone during that period.
