Shield TV Pro 2019 out of stock everywhere?

I've been looking at getting one for a while, and now that I'm ready to do it, it looks like it's out of stock/backordered everywhere I look. Is that normal, or is it a caronavirus thing?

    Verizon Stream TV

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 09:23 PM PST

Just got my Verizon Stream TV box today. It was an upgrade for my old and slow Nexus Player.

It was way faster than the Nexus Player. I noticed this immediately.

I like that the included remote also controls my TV, and setting it up was as quick as the Stream TV performing a scan of my TV hardware.

Every app loades quickly and all videos looked great.

I tested YouTube, Google Play movies, Netflix, Hulu, Plex and Amazon Prime Video

My one small gripe is the Verizon suggested channel that cannot be moved. Other than that, there was no bloatware to be found. This thing is nearly as stock as my Nexus Player and it runs Android 9.

I almost got a Mi Box until I read all the complaints about Android 9. I then decided to save up for a Shield, but I ultimately sprung for this as it was much cheaper, and they added Netflix support.

All in all I give this a 9/10. Anyone in the market for a new Android TV device, that doesn't want to pay $200 for a Shield, the Verizon Stream TV is a great buy

It annoys me to no end that the nest app doesn't work on android tv because Google haven't updated their app on their OS to accept their login portal!

    Ethernet Setup Help Troubleshooting

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 12:20 AM PST

I have the Mi Box S on Android 9 (no issues except with ADB - different problem)

I have the Ugreen Gigabit Adapter, it's recognized flawlessly but is giving me a slower speed than using wifi (90 mbps vs 120 mbps). This is directly into the *modem* (my ISP has a 2-in-1 modem router).

My internet is 300 fiber so those speeds are abysmal. I realize that the Mi Box is USB 2.0 but c'mon, why so slow?

Only thing I can think of is a slow ethernet cable (Cat5e) but everything else in my house is on that cable and there are no issues achieving peak speeds.

    Any troubleshooting I could do?

    Recommended budget box

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 05:48 AM PST

A less tech savvy friend is looking for a good android TV box mostly so his kids can watch netflix etc without needing access to his phone or something.

He wants to be able to access UK/US netflix libraries and maybe use kodi or iptv.

What would be a good well running box for about €50-€80? When it comes to firestick or mibox he is concerned the ram won't be enough and it will run slowly, is this true? If so, can it be improved through settings etc changes?

Must Have Android TV apps - Basic tv specs - Please advise

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 03:31 AM PST

Hi, I'm quite the noob when it comes to 'smart tvs'.

I made an unintelligent purchase on Black Friday and as I was under a tight budget I purchased a very basic Android TV. Won't even mention the brand. All that's suffice to say is that it doesn't have that sleek, beautiful, majestic menu and swift movements of je ne sais quoi --((insert a clip of what i imagine those to be 🤤)) - over the top hair in wind video here, that normal LG and Samsung TVs have.

If you don't mind, please advise me with the most basic, important, life changing android apps you use on your TV. Ones that you wouldn't manage without.

Would love some suggestions, keeping in mind my humble hardware 📺 :)...

    Thank you :)

Dirt cheap Mi Box Ss the real deal?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 04:48 PM PST

I've seen some Mi Box Ss going for dirt cheap on wish.com and from Chinese sellers on eBay (<£15). Are these legitimate? Why are they so cheap? They go for £40-£60 from sellers here in the UK.

    Android sideloading

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:50 AM PST

So i'm trying to make my own androidTV with a laptop, and it's main OS is Android TV from this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MVipDaOJWnU : Now since this doesn't come with any pre installed apps other then a file explorer, i am trying to sideload apps, like VivaTV, a app i used to use when i had a Mi Box. It gives me a Parse Error and when i went to to turn on Unknown Sources, it still gives me the error, i also enabled USB Debugging from the Developer options. I know i should just buy a Mi box or chrome cast or whatever, but this is all i have right now so i'm just trying to re purpose, Thanks in advance!

    Android TV - App Store

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 01:42 PM PST

My mum just bought a new TV which comes with prebuilt with android functionality, and was met with Aptoide TV. Honestly, I haven't really tried it that much but it looks kinda sketchy.. Is there a way I can make the TV use Google Play instead?

Is there an alternative like the TV app on Apple TV for Anadroid TV?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 09:56 AM PST

So I was wondering if there is something similar like the TV app on Apple TV, but for Android TV?

I really like to have a streaming aggregator that collects all my favourite streaming services in one place, and the "Up Next" function in the top shelf that gives me a personal feed with my tv shows and notifications when there is a new episode for the tv shows that I follow directly on the Home Screen.

And how practical it is to play the new episode from the Home screen, so you don't have to start the app every time there is something new, and the possibility to search everything in one place and add it to my list, I have never really tried Android TV, so I was curious if there is something similar to this or if this is something unique that just Apple TV has?

Can a Xiaomi Mi Box Suffice at playing 4k HDR on a Tv?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:39 AM PST

I read a lot of contradictory opinions about whether the Mi box can effectively play 4k HDR content on Tvs. For the record, my Tv is a Panasonic oled, and the Mi box would be wired to a 3.0 usb external ssd.

What is your opinion? Can a MI box handle 4k or not?

Add bluetooth speaker to Android TV for better audio

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:29 AM PST

    Hi!

I would like your opinion about this.

Do you think that adding a bluetooth speaker to an Android TV (Xiaomi Mi TV 4) can improve audio in the room?
