Can't reinstall apps that were previously on an SD Card.

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:12 AM PST

I had to remove an SD card that had a whole bunch of apps from the Google Play Store, but when I try to install those apps again from the Play Store (PS), it tells me that PS is unable to install it. I've done everything Google has suggested, but none of their solutions have worked. Is there anything I can do?

Also a sidenote, the SD card got corrupted after I replaced the battery. When I tried to format it, I got an error that seems like there was missing code, and formatting via PC didn't work either. I'm also looking for a fix to this.

[8.1.0] LG Stylo 4 (LM-Q710) keeps freezing on startup

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:59 AM PST

I plugged up my lg stylo 4, and I decided to try and check it in the middle of the night when I noticed it didn't seem like it was charging. So I tried to boot up my lg stylo 4 and the screen froze on the "LG Stylo: Powered by Android" screen and when i restarted it, it launched fastboot mode, and i restarted it again. But then, when it booted up it said 0% so i plugged it in and it froze on the screen before it shows the percent (with the red light indicating charging) on for 3 to 4 hours. Now it keeps freezing on the T-Mobile screen. Also, just in case it has something to do with this problem, the last app i installed was Puffin Web Browser, which has run on startup in permissions

    Can't open ZIP files

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 07:49 AM PST

For some reason i can't open (or use) zip files at all on my RCA Viking Pro tablet (which is running on Android Marshmallow/6.0), i've tried everything i can think of, but i can't extract or open zip files, even though the file manager app recognizes the file type, because it has the archive file symbol and not the paper with blue queston mark. Does anyone know how to fix this?

    HTTP/HTTPS Transparent Proxy on Android

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:41 PM PST

So on linux, I use transparent mode of mitmdump (mitmproxy without interaction) to build a websites filter and I run it as root on startup so that it cannot be killed if the user does not have sudo permission.

So I want to setup a similar thing for smartphone. It should be standalone rather than say, connect to Internet through PC and let PC does all the work. I am new to Android so forgive me if I am asking stupid questions. My questions are

    1. Many apps like Orbot seem to have HTTP/HTTPS transparent mode (Please recommend if you know something more similar to mitmproxy). But they are GUI based. How do I convert them (or if there exists already) to a silent background service like mitmdump?
    2. Do any of them allow me to add codes like https://docs.mitmproxy.org/stable/addons-scripting/ either directly in the source code or as an automatically called add-on? (Basically, each time a request/response arrive, my function should be triggered to decide whether or not to replace/block it)
    3. If there is no apps similar to mitmproxy, what tools do I need to create such an environment (assuming that I only want to deal requests/responses at HTTP/HTTPS level)?

I do not need to assume any particular Android versions. I just need to make things work first on some version. Please point me to the correct background materials if you feel that they take too long to explain.

    Thank you.

    Record Internal Sound

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 01:39 PM PST

    Hi!

I'm wanting to stream games on a G7Plus with Android 10. The issue is that the internal sound is not heard, only the microphone. Is there any way to take it without having to play from the microphone? Thank you very much in advance!

I change phones a lot, what's the best way to make entire backups and restore them?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 05:56 PM PST

I change phones a lot because I sell them for a profit along with customizations etc,but I actually use them as my primary phones, the thing is that right now when I change my phone I have to manually backup things (photos files etc) and restore later, and I lose my progress on some games that don't save on the cloud using Google Games.

I want to do a full backup of my phone so I can continue where I left on the new one,but since I don't usually have the old phone I can't use "clone apps" so I was looking and found 2 options, titanium backup (I bought the PRO version btw) and TWRP backups (the phone is rooted ofc)

The thing is that I don't really know how to use them,I've never used Titanium before and I only use TWRP to flash .zips and nothing else, can anyone please explain to me what's the best way to make total backups of my entire phone? Also can I use the backup with different phone manufacturers? and since I'm a heavy user I often have only 10-15 gb of space left (from 128gb) would compression allow me to save the entire backup in that little space? or there's a way to send the backup directly to my PC without saving it on my phone first?

    App with Nagging Reminders

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:27 AM PST

I'm looking for an app where I can do something like set a task like "get ready for bed" every night at 11pm and then it will buzz me at 11, and then again every x minutes after that (every minute, every five minutes, etc) until I check it off. Most apps I see seem to want an active response of postponing it, which is not what I want.

    Thank you for any suggestions!

EDIT: I got BZ reminders to do this, although I would like the ability to set different intervals for different alarms. It seems to be one interval for all reminders on this app.

    Android 10 ADFS Certificate error

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:57 AM PST

    Hello,

Our Android 10 devices that come with the OS and also being pushed down by our carrier are causing our devices to stop authenticating with our ADFS.

On Android OS 9 devices when you reach the ADFS page and put in the username and password the next step checks for an installed certificate on the device, which we deposit using our MDM, prompts with the found user certificate and allows access to the site.

Android 10 devices appear to have changed the KeyChain process or something where after the username and password are entered the screen flashes and then shows error occurred.

When we look on our ADFS servers we can see that an error shows stating that the device has not presented a certificate to authentication

We have tried multiple devices, factory resetting devices, side loading certificates bypassing MDM and more to attempt to address this issue

Has anyone else encountered this issue with Android 10 and how we can get our certificates to be detected by the OS so that they can present when needed?

    Cheap bastard seeks compatible phone

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:57 AM PST

My cheap Motorola phone has started to shut down spontaneously (and Motorola is AMAZINGLY unresponsive to me and others with this problem), so I'm in the market for a new phone. Can anyone recommend an unlocked Android GSM phone to me with a decent camera, headphone jack, removable battery and SD card expandability? Should be reasonably new model (last two years, anyway).

    lockscreen notifications on android 10

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:36 AM PST

My oneplus just updated to android 10 the other day and I have noticed that all of my notifications are showing up on the lockscreen. I used to have it set to hide sensitive content, but now the only option is to do it when the phone is actually locked, not just on the lock screen. I use smart lock with my watch, and even though the phone is technically unlocked, I still want the notifications censored on my lockscreen, I don't need people near me to see the content of my messages if they see my screen. Is this still possible on android 10? Or do I have to disable smart lock so that my phone actually locks every time I put the screen to sleep?

Samsung S10e Continuous scrolling - Google Maps Question

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:14 AM PST

Ok this sounds dumb, but it bugs me so much. Thank you in advance for your help!

so on my old samsung (A7 i think) when i was in google maps streetview, and rotated my view, it would continue to rotate after i pulled my finger off the screen. the harder you swiped, the faster the view would rotate.

on my new phone when i do this, as soon as i pull my finger off the screen, the view stops wherever it was when the finger was removed.

I know it is minimal and doesnt really matter, but I really would like to be able to rotate the view via finger swype again.

    thanks everyone!!

Lock screen shows upcoming alarm but I do not have an alarm set

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 11:03 AM PST

Hello friends. My lock screen is showing I have an upcoming alarm and the time the alarm is set for keeps changing. The alarm seems to be set roughly ten minutes in the future. I have zero alarms set, and I use the stock google alarm app that came on my phone. I have a google pixel 3xl, just installed tasker recently which I'm guessing will be the cause of the problem somehow. None of my tasker profiles have anything modifying the alarm-- just basic stuff like enable autorotate in youtube, turn off wifi when it sees on my calendar that I'm at work, turn on blokada when I open chrome, etc. Nothing is timegated and I have nothing setting alarms.

I will post a screenshot of my lock screen in the comments.

Edit: SOLVED: I found this thread in r/android_beta from 9 months ago that told me the "problem" is caused by a setting in the preferences of Tasker, specifically using reliable alarms. In Tasker, go to preferences > monitor > use reliable alarms and set to "Never" to get the notification to stop. As far as the impact this has on timing in Tasker, idk.

Is there an app that imitates apple's Emergency SOS?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 08:52 AM PST

I'm looking for an android app that does the same thing as apple's Emergency SOS - which calls 911 when you press the power button 5 times.

I spent like an hour googling this and all I could find is that newer samsung phones have an emergency sos feature that will text your contacts some info... Pretty dang useless IMO. None of my close friends or family are heavy phone users, there's a very high chance that they won't even notice an emergency text until 3 hours after I send it ;) And what if it's 3:00 AM? Even if I send an emergency text to my one friend who's always on her phone, she's gotta sleep at some point, even she won't see the text until 3 hours after I send it.

Plus, my android phone is a non-samsung model so the samsung SOS is useless to me anyway.

I'm VERY surprised that I couldn't find any app that imitates apple's SOS functionality. Is there something I'm missing here? Can I just re-map the power button to do this myself? Why aren't there any apps that do this?

[Discussion] How often do you change your phones? Does changing less often really save you money?

    Posted: 02 Mar 2020 11:51 PM PST

I've been in the same 2 year cycle of changing my phone for a while but I realized, but I don't think it made a big difference.

    Assuming these are Samsung flagship phones starting from 2018 & the S9, and I know they're huge generalizations here (but close enough after some googling) , but bear with me (I haven't factored carrier deals, contracts, discounts, buying used etc. at all) ;

    Buying every 2 years : -$900 (S9) +$300 (trade in/sell used) -$1300 (S20) = -$1900

    Buying every 1 years : -$900 (S9) +$500 -$1100 (S10) -$600 +$1300 (S20) = -$2200

    Buying a generation late every 2 years : -$500 (S8) +$100 (3 generations old) -$700 (S10)= -$1100

    Buying a generation late every 1 years : -$500 (S8) +$250 -$600 (S9) +$300 -$700 (S10) = -$1250

Seems buying a generation late but being able to change every year seems like a good deal, well according to my 4th grade math. I sincerely hope to learn why all this is just bullshit and wrong.

Phone repeatedly wants to pair bluetooth

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 05:47 AM PST

Nearly every time I turn on Bluetooth on my Moto E4 then turn on my BT earpiece, I struggle getting it connected. Sometimes it simply won't connect, and other times it asks to pair the device despite previously pairing it dozens of time. Once it's connected, it's reliable.

I've tried a "Network Settings Reset" and this seems to work for awhile, then it's back to the same old antics after several days. I switched to a different earpiece some time ago because the old one failed, and this does the same thing.

The phone is completely stock, and has very little on it for apps. No games, no social media apps, no Skype. Nothing weird. My spouse has the exact same phone and same model BT earpiece, and doesn't have this problem. What can I try?

Remove app border on home screen?

    Posted: 03 Mar 2020 05:43 AM PST

Just installed the latest Andoid update on my Galaxy S9+, and now my chrome bookmarks that I have saved on my home screen have a white border around them. Before I updated I had that border disabled, so they were transparent and it was just the icon. I can't find that option anymore. Has it been removed, or is it hidden somewhere?

Is it possible to run the newly un-earthed MediaTek-SU (MTK-SU) exploit from the device's ram itself?

If yes, it is also possible to 100% wipe the whole device storage (ROM itself)!
