Can you root Samsung Galaxy S10+ without having to factory reset?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 07:40 AM PST

I have been interested in rooting ever since I got the phone, but a massive turn-off is having to factory reset when you're installing a custom recovery. Is there any way to go through the process of rooting but without having to lose the data of all my apps, apks and other files?

How do you force the Google Feed to reflect your interests?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 07:40 AM PST

I really like the idea of the Google Feed. I want to stay up to date with world events, so a constantly-updated newsfeed that's only one swipe away from my homescreen seems awesome in principle.

The problem is, no matter how hard I try, I can't seem to teach the algorithm what topics I'm interested in, or the sources I prefer.

The topics I'm interested in are world politics, economics, war, foreign affairs, environmental issues, etc. The sources I'd ideally like the Feed to follow would be things like Foreign Affairs, the Council on Foreign Relations website, the Economist, the Atlantic, Foreign Policy, the New Yorker, the New York Times, the Financial Times, etc.

I've tried to train the algorithm by upvoting stories that I'm interested in, downvoting stories I'm not interested, following specific topics, blacklisting low-quality sources, and even Google-searching for specific topics or publications in the hope that the algorithm will get the idea. I've given it a lot of information about my preferences.

This has helped a bit, but overall, the Feed still gives me a steady stream of celebrity gossip news, low-quality clickbait, unimportant local news, articles about movies that I watched years ago (and did one Google search for), etc.

Am I missing something here? Are there any specific tips and tricks to train your feed? Should I just give up? Are there any other Android apps that are good for international news?

I bought a new battery and accubattery is showing the capacity is way lower than what was advertised. The seller claims the app is wrong.

    Posted: 17 Feb 2020 10:07 PM PST

How can I find out if the app is reporting accurate or inaccurate or if the seller is just lying?

I'd bet it's the seller being shady, but I'd like to hear some suggestions.

    Is accubattery pretty accurate?

How to force apps to close from multiview menu

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 11:06 AM PST

Not sure what the square button is called but you guys know what I mean.

Sometimes when I close an app from there, it is still running in the background and I have to go to settings to force close it.

Is there any setting to tweak so that when I close from multiview, it completely closes?

How to save my Samsung themes in case they stop supporting s7

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 11:03 AM PST

I've noticed that there's very little listed under the "new" category in the Samsung Themes store. I'd like to prepare for Samsung closing the themes store, and thus all the themes that I purchased are gone since you have to install them through the app. I looked at APK extractor but it lists 58 "apks" for one Samsung theme. Any suggestions are much appreciated.

    Adding shortcuts to Chrome

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 10:47 AM PST

I wanted to know if there is a way to add shortcuts to chrome for Android, maybe an option that let me put shortcuts once I touch the search bar, or anything similar to that, because I want a faster way instead of going to my Bookmarks every time. Thanks for the help.

Is it possible to entirely control a specific App from the lock screen? I.e. grant access to an App, that it can be used without unlocking the device

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 05:42 AM PST

The questions sounds difficult, I'll give an example.

Our smartphones are the keys to our online lives. If someone gets their handy on a persons unlocked smartphone, they can do probably many things: post stuff on social media (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, ...), write emails, maybe read PGP encrypted emails, read/write instant messages (WhatsApp, Telegram, ...), maybe even do online banking, (in my case) enter grades if i did not log the browser out of the Uni website.

In other words one should never let anybody else get their hands on your unlocked smartphone.

But what if my phone is controlling the music on a party? With some generic music player app and Bluetooth speakers or Spotify and another hidden device via spotify-connect thats actually plugged to the stereo.

I would like to be able to give my phone away for someone else to play their music. Well, music players have some control widget that can be accessed from the lockscreen, where one can play+pasue and skip music. But one can not search for songs and edit the queue.

Is there a way to grant access to an App, so that it can be controlled entirely without the screen unlocked?

Even better would be only non permanent actions, e.g. change the queue, but not edit playlists. But that is Spotify specific.

Hiding tethering/hotspot from the carrier :: Nexus 5X

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 09:28 AM PST

I've searched before posting, but couldn't find much useful information. Many suggest non-working apps and others say it depends on mobile and carrier.

My phone is a Nexus 5X. It's not rooted, but I could try to root it, if it's the only way.

My carrier is Celcom, in Malaysia. It limits the amount of data I can hotspot.

How can I hide tethering from the carrier?

    Upgrade 4.4.4 to Newer

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 07:08 AM PST

    Hi all,

We have Totem stand that is running some sort of Tablet board that is running 4.4.4 however to use it at events as we hope to we need to upgrade to at least 5.0 so we can update our Webview as webview 33.0 doesn't support some of the features we need. I was wondering how i would go about trying to upgrade this.

PS it's one of these: https://aotm.co.uk/product/freestanding-iphone-style-touch-kiosk/

Can VOIP replace a voice plan?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 10:14 AM PST

I have Zoiper on my phone, it seems to work well and use data sparingly. I'm thinking of going data only and relying on my $1/month + $0.01/minute voip number. Has anyone made that leap and did it work out?

Are there any apps out there to limit the amount of screen time or playtime in certain apps?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 09:52 AM PST

Are there any android apps out there (paid or free) that limit the amount of time children can play on android devices?

I know there's Family Link, but any other suggestions to screen limiting apps, or timed app time apps?

    Thanks in advance!

[Unanswered] The keyboard has changed. How do I change it back?

    Posted: 18 Feb 2020 09:43 AM PST

My mum has an Android phone and the keyboard no longer appears at the bottom of the screen when she uses Facebook Messenger. Instead, it floats above the message box as shown here, and she has difficulty seeing what she's written. Is there a way to change it back?

The phone is a Huawei P smart model FIG LX1. She uses Android 9

    Where did my 19Gb go?

If you add up my used storage I get to, say, 8Gb. Yet 27Gb is in use. Where did the other 19Gb go? On my son's device it's even worse. He has over 60Gb "lost" on his 64Gb device. Where did this storage go and is it recoverable?

Hi All - I am doing a project and I was asked to find some larger Android tablets. Customer is looking for a 13", 17", 21", 24" etc Android tablets to be used in a Kiosk.

I am finding a lot of aliexpress or other chinese manufacturers, which is ALSO fine, but I am unsure of who to go with or what to look out for.

If anyone has any advice I'd be very grateful!

    • VESA Mounting on Back
    • Wifi (no cellular)
    • 13"-24"
