[DEV] Last week, I released Swipe for Facebook 8.2.3 - now having finally cracked streaming LIVE Video and watching HD Videos (the very first alternative with support for both) through extremely hacky code! This weekend, Swipe is 50% OFF! Happy Leap Year 2020, everyone!

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 02:08 PM PST

    Hello Everyone! 😊

I'm kind of glad to be able to talk with you all again. How've you been this beginning of 2020? My resolutions aren't doing too great lol (gained at least 10 pounds). How are yours?

I know I missed Christmas, New Year, and even Chinese New Year... but let's just make up a new holiday for the sake of it - let's call it the 2020 Leap Year!

Swipe will be 50% off for now til the end of the weekend on Monday.

    Obligatory links

After a soft launch over at r/swipeforfacebook of Swipe 8.2, I'm excited to be able to share with you all again the latest developments with Swipe - and the new hacky, hacky workarounds I've been able to do to bring functions from the official Facebook app not available in the official mobile site into Swipe.

This time around, it's HD Videos and the ability to stream Live Videos - yes LIVE Videos! These were previously unavailable in Facebook alternative apps unless you were using the official app, but I'm so happy to be the first to bring these out to you all!

It works so easily too, just click on a video, and there should be a toggle to switch videos between SD and HD. Live videos work equally easy. Click on any one of them and they play just as any normal video would. It's that simple - just try the app, see any video or live video and you'll see. I'm ashamed there isn't a tutorial in the app, but I tried to design the whole thing so that it's super intuitive without having to learn anything new.

Anyway, with the latest new updates, we're getting closer and closer to the functionality the official app has... and in many ways have already surpassed it. But there's still a lot of work to do, I'll admit. There's still so much to do, I can only hope you'll be around for the ride.

    Anyway, thanks for reading guys!

I am sure there will be some questions about how Swipe is better than Frost, or Friendly, or Maki, or Folio, and I will be more than happy to answer them. Ask away! Cheers!

Edit: First 25 people to comment here will get promo codes.

Edit2: Apparently, telling people "don't forget to updoot the OP" when you send a code counts as vote manipulation. My bad. Got suspended for 3 days, so can't comment/PM. 🤷‍♂️ u/happeningstudios will be sending the codes out!

I recently bought a realme 5 for usd $120 and I'm impressed with the battery life! With 60 apps installed, the battery dropped by 50% after 1 day of use with 7h screen on time. So based on my usage a full charge can last 2 days.

Comparing size of the S7 to the S20 versions

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 11:39 AM PST

Wanted to see the size comparison of the S7 and different versions of the S20, but couldn't find anything. Reading dimensions just isn't the same and seeing them together... So, I decided to go compare for myself, by aligning a bottom corner as best as I could. Any perceived misalignment is really due to forced perspective of the top phone being closer to the camera.

Pictures taken with an S20 not being compared, then beamed to my phone via NFC in the store.

    Here are the results:

    https://imgur.com/gallery/fCKXGvb

S20 regular was nearly the same width, and a little taller.

S20+ a very tiny bit wider, and taller.

S20 Ultra was obviously bigger in both aspects, but height is the biggest difference. It still fits fine in a jeans pocket with no case, but it's not easy to tech the corners of the phone with one hand.

When an S7 with battery case is compared, the difference is hardly noticeable. Maybe 0.25in (6-7 mm) difference in height, and same width.

Adding a case to the S20 will obviously change these numbers, but you get the idea.

    Buying an older generation phone

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 06:44 AM PST

Just watched Dave Lee's video on Flagship Killer phones

    https://youtu.be/tFsLpLOEUIk

and I kinda agree with him, I mean buying an older generation phone seems more logical than a $500+ flagship killer, besides there's no innovation going on in the phone industry, I mean I personally don't want to spend $800, $900 let alone $1000+ on phones for just a higher refresh rate, which I might / might not notice.

For example, why would a regular user buy a Pixel 4XL over Pixel 3XL? Given the difference between the phones is not that much (https://m.gsmarena.com/compare.php3?idPhone1=9895&idPhone2=9257).

I own a Galaxy S8, an it still performs very good for my needs! Just want to know your opinions on the topic.

    Thank You

Who else misses Jelly Bean..or is it just me?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:19 AM PST

For some reason I really miss android jelly bean and kit kat, and although newer version might be with the trends in design I felt like the earlier versions of android felt way easier to navigate, control, and custumize. Also I miss the 3d designs and themes and icons.

Simple mod for Tab S6 OEM case

    Posted: 27 Feb 2020 12:32 PM PST

I threw together this album to cover this minor mod "using a clear case as a sticky proxy" for the tab S6.

A lot of people are frustrated that the official Samsung keyboard case requires the awesome kickstand to stay adhered to the back of the tablet. I was a heavy Tab S3 user and not really satisfied that I had to have that keyboard on resulting in a device thicker, and a little heavier, than needed.

I remembered reading a post about someone suggesting this idea so please chime in if it was yours; I tried searching and couldn't find you!

Basically I bought a $8 clear case off Amazon, stuck the keyboard back to it, and ensured it made a good fit. I also trimmed out the bottom just wide enough for the keyboard connector and viola, it works.

I have been rocking this for 2 days (2 full charges) without issue. I use my tablet as a thin client for work which easily burns 7-8 hours a day and at home I use it for reading, studying and such. I also have it listed as a BYOD device so get my work email and such on it when off work. Through all of this the back holds to the clear case well enough. I am confident enough to where I have picked it up by the kickstand and shook it around without it coming loose. If it ever starts slipping I will gladly dab some superglue on it and make this a permanent fix.

    HTH!

    Chrome profiles in Android?

    Posted: 28 Feb 2020 12:26 AM PST

This is a question that has been irking me to no end and for some reason I can't seem to get a straight answer to.

In Chrome on the desktop, you can add multiple profiles, like guest, main user etc. Each profile has it's own password storage, bookmarks and so on.

However, I've found no way of viewing or creating personas on Android. Ideally, these should live under my Google account and by synced between my devices.

If this doesn't exist, can anyone tell me what the status on it is? It seems to be that the ability to sync profiles across devices is a given if you're gonna have profiles to begin with.
